entrepreneurs in simple language. It is not easy for every person to take risks especially with
stakes are high. But, businessmen have capacity to try something new at the cost of suffering
major financial loss. There are many entrepreneurs in this world; some are very successful while
others failed at some point in their journey. The reason behind success or failure is motivation
behind choosing entrepreneurship as a profession. This report is based on Elon Musk, one of the
most popular entrepreneurs of current time. Assignment will discuss about factors that motivated
him to become entrepreneur. These factors will be based on three disciplines i.e. psychology,
sociology and economics.

Elon Musk is a popular name in field business as he is co-founder of many successful start-ups
like Paypal, Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity. Beside these, he is also involved in many other businesses.
Elon Musk is a genius in physics and holds a degree in economics. He is among most hard working
entrepreneurs; his knowledge of technology differ him from other businessmen. In terms of
wealth, he holds a position in top 50 richest men in the world. There is hardly any area where
Musk has not entered in terms of business and innovation. He is dealing in AI, biotechnology,
Space research, etc. Basically, all of the ventures are futuristic which proves that he is perfect
example of serial entrepreneur. One can see Elon from different perspective but it is clear that he
is not a regular businessman and human being.

Most of the entrepreneurs start a new venture because they want to earn money. The basic
psychology behind every business idea and hard work of businessmen is to increase their profits
and strength own financial position. But, Elon Musk has different thoughts in his mind. His
interviews and activities clearly show that he does not care about money at all. He wants to
change this world, not gradually but radically. Money is not important for Musk; this type of
psychology shows that his desire to find and work for those things which will affect this world in

Positive mindset – One of the most important things that Elon Musk keeps in his mind ad
behavior is to assure himself and others that future will be a lot better than past. This mindset
motivates him to enter in new ventures without leaving current one. Entrepreneurs face many
difficulties in their life; it can be related to funding, management or external environment. These
factors buy negative thoughts in their mind which ultimately results in development of negative
behavior. Elon Musk firmly believes that many negative things are happening in this world; his
optimistic nature motivates him to bring radical changes in order to promote positivity in the
universe. He wants to make earth a better place to live besides exploring options of life on other
planets.
Obsession with productivity – People have different obsessions but Musk is not a normal
person and his obsessions are also different from others. He always tries to work more than
others as he cannot sit idle for even one minute. Working 90 hours a week is not a big deal for
him because now his mind has trained according to it. Musk has a simple principle in his mind, if
he and his team will work for more our compared to other rivals then they will complete more
work in less period of time. This will provide them an edge over competitors. This whole idea
work as a motivational factor for Elon Musk as he understand that people have limitations in
their mind which does not allow them to tap their untapped potential.
Challenge reality – Musk always try to boil things down to its fundamental so he can
understand basics of everything. He is not satisfied with the technology and other commodities
in the world; this dissatisfaction motivates him to do something that is beyond imagination of
others. He gets motivated with the idea of challenging reality. Musk understand that he and his
team will have to change the mindset for solving any problem because new stuff cannot be

structure of society which is also connected to everyday life. Entrepreneurs sometime get
motivation for their daily routine. There are various areas that get covered in sociology like
gender, religious faith, family conflict, aging etc. Below are sociological factors that motivate
Elon Musk:
No space for spirituality in science – Musk only believe in science, he is not religious
and he never pray. According to him, science can make world better place so people should
focus on innovations and do hard work to reduce possibility of failure. This factor motivates him
to spend more time in doing research; it allows him to start different ventures that are completely
futuristic. He believes are so strong that he does not considered co-existence of both science and
god. When someone is so much involved in practical stuff, the ideas of taking support from
