Drama Transcript:
In an emergency department a patient named Jane has been admitted with the complaint
of the breathing issue. Jane is a 45 year old lady. She has asthma. After the admission the patient
has been assessed and her vitals were fluctuating and also the medical history showed that she
has asthma. The patient’s concern has been changed and the improvement of the patient will be
focused on different aspects such as the education development, improvement of the life style
and health behavior as well. The following transcript the communication between nurses and the
patient will be presented. There will be 2 nurses focused on the ongoing care of the patient.
Nurse 1: Hello! I am Sofia. What is your name?
Patient: Hello! I am Jane.
Nurse 2: Hello! I am Jessica.
Nurse 1: What is the issue you are feeling as the most impacting factor on your health?
Patient: I have felt that my asthma is severe issue and it impacts over my health mostly.
Nurse 1: Okay. How long have you been here?
Patient: I have been here for past 5 days. As per the doctor’s opinion I will be here for some
more days.
Nurse 1: It is unfortunate. However, the medication and the medical reports showed that you
have asthma and the lungs are affected by the condition as well. Jessica, please tell us about the
care process of Jane as you are in charge of her care.
Nurse 2: Yes. Jane is very much cooperative and her ongoing care is proceeding as per doctor’s
instructions. However, she fells breathing issue at night and I have reported to the doctor. Doctor
told me to change her position so that she can breathe properly.

Nurse 1: Okay. You have followed all the medications prescribed?
Nurse 2: Yes. I have followed the prescription and also followed the administration process.
However, it seems that at night the effects of the medicines shade off. Hence, I have planned
some interventions for the improvement of the ongoing care process for her.
Patient: Yes. The doctor had also confirmed this. Please, if you can let me know the process of
the medication as I cannot understand the dosage and the timings of the newly prescribed
medicines. However, I also agree with Jessica and I have to trust her plans as I want to be
relieved from the issue.
Nurse 1: Sure. Why not? However, I think you need to move slowly and also practice some
relaxation exercises in the morning along with breathing exercises. This will help you with your
breathing issues. What do you think Jessica?
Nurse 2: Yes. I have planned some relaxation exercise and also movement processes at daytime
and also at night so that her body posture can be relaxed and the increased resistance in the
respiration tube can be reduced.
Patient: Okay. Please teach me the processes of the breathing and relaxation exercises.
Nurse 1: Now, tell me about the other concerns you think should be diagnosed as well.
Patient: There are no such issues other than my asthma. However, please check up my whole
body as I think you can understand if there are any issues present in my body.
Nurse 1: Okay. Jessica can you please conduct a full body check up of Sofia so that the negative
factors can be identified which are affecting her health condition. I think it will help in
determination, if there is any other issue which can be accounted for her asthma and breathing
issues.

as she is cooperative enough and also the doctor is helping me in the process. I am thankful to

Patient: Yes, thank you. Please also let me know about the medication process as well so that I
can take the medicine from shop and ask them as well.
Nurse 1: Yes. Okay, you should also focus on the health condition of yourself. The self
