INTRODUCTION
Emerging technologies are those technologies whose practical applications, development
is still unrealized. Another way in which emerging technologies can be defined is that these are
those technological innovations that help in representing progressive innovations in order to gain
competitive advantages (Hussain, Arif and Aslam, 2017). There are various kinds of new
emerging technologies whose use is continuously increasing today such as internet of tings also
known as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Robotics, Biometrics, Virtual Reality and
many more. Today many countries are focusing on using these technologies in order to gain
competitive advantage. This report will focus on emerging technology such as Artificial
intelligence and its applications, benefits they provide to organizations, potential scope for
emerging technologies, ways in which these technologies can affect organizations, issues that
can arise because of use of emerging technologies.

There are various kinds of emerging technologies and their use within industry is also
increasing. Today many organizations are focusing on bringing innovation, pushing their
boundaries in order to innovate something new. In order to enhance their business, gain
competitive advantage organizations are focusing on using new emerging technologies for
various purposes. Some of the most common emerging technologies used by organizations are:
Artificial Intelligence: It is also known as machine intelligence. It is a kind of intelligence
which is mostly demonstrated by machines. This technology is already bringing changes within
the Organizations. It has also impacted the way in which customer interact with business through
bots, intelligent website (Arnold, Roach and Azcarate-Peril, 2016). It is widely being used in
industries such as hospitality, healthcare etc. for data security, decision making, accuracy, speed
and for many more things. There are various applications of Artificial intelligence as it is used in
various industries for different purposes such as: In hospitals it is used for treatment of
neurological diseases. Today many organizations are using Artificial intelligence to treat patients
with neurological disorder and for this various other organizations are contributing to bring
improvement and innovation within this industry. Another application of AI is intelligent robots
or devices. These intelligent devices or robots are benefiting the organizations in many ways
such as film industry are using this technology in movie creation, manufacturing industry

organizations are using these robots for their manufacturing operations etc. Some of the most
common use cases of AI for organizations are: static image recognition, predictive maintenance,
text query of images, scalable processing of patient records and many more. Other than this there
are various kinds of virtual reality games that are being developed with the help of Artificial
intelligence. There are many games in which AI is used in order to mimic human intelligence.
With the help of AI virtual reality games are being developed in which virtual environment is
created where virtual characters are being developed that mimic as human intelligence as much
as possible.
AI today is also construction of robotics. AI is one of the most useful tool used in
robotics and with the help of AI robots can learn their own path. AI can also be used in many
different ways in robotics. It is another one of those merging technologies whose use in
organizations is continuously increasing. Many organizations are using this Robotics technology
to develop machines that can work as a substitute for humans and can replace them. Robotics is
continuously automating routine processes by using machines in order to make business faster,
more efficient, less costly (Sullivan, Edmundowicz and Thompson, 2017). It is working as a
bridge between automation and human efforts. It is being used in many areas and has various
applications such as:
Outer space applications- Robotics is extremely important and is mostly used for outer space
exploration. Scientist today are also using unmanned robotics spacecrafts for exploration of
space.
Military applications- In today’s modern army robotics plays a vital role for their day to day
operations. They use various kinds of robotics applications such as unmanned aerial vehicles like
the Predator drone for surveillance photographs etc. or for auto launching missiles. These
robotics technologies are used by them for their daily purposes or for war.
Intelligent home applications- Today people are also using robotics for enhancement of their
home security, improve energy consumption etc. Today many people are using intelligent
robotics home systems using which doors or windows can directly open or close, electric
appliances can be easily switched on/off (Arnold, Roach and Azcarate-Peril, 2016).
Industry applications- Most of the organizations in different industries are also using this
advance technology for example articulated robots are used for rotary joints in order to access its
work space.

AI today is also helping in improving as well as creating stimulated environment. It is also
used by organizations to improve their operational efficiency, individual productivity etc. It is
most commonly used in entertainment industry for 3D cinema, video games (Mahato, Srivastava
and Chandra, 2017). It is one of the most beneficial technology whose use is increasing
continuously.
Potential scope for emerging technologies
Emerging technologies are often seen as those technologies that are capable of bring change
with organizations, society in many different ways (Khanagha, Volberda and Oshri, 2017).
Slowly scope of use of these emerging technologies is increasing continuously. Potential scope
of these emerging technologies in business is increasing such as: Today maximum efforts are
being put to make computer programs efficient enough to solve human problems. There is scope
in bringing improvement in AI technology such business government organizations can
benefitted more. Many government organizations are using these technologies for speech
recognition, language detection. There is extensive scope of improvement for these emerging
technologies due to which its use in business, government organizations can increase. There is
large scope for robotics in education industry where students can focus on developing their
career in robotics science (Chopra, Jha and Jain, 2017). Government organizations such as
foreign affairs who can use unmanned technologies for detection of real dangers, or keeping an
eye on suspicious activities happening internationally. Potential scope of Emerging technologies
is bright and is increasing in business for manufacturing, automatic various organizational
operations, resolving internal problems, identifying risks so that potential benefits for such
organizations can increase and they can bring improvement within their business as well.
Ways in which emerging technologies can affect industry
The emerging technology that is AI affects the wide range of industries and thus
somehow disrupts their overall functioning.
AI
Artificial intelligence affect the industries in both positive as well as negative way. For
example- talking of the hospitality industry, artificial intelligence has become most common and
thus helps the customers to better communicate with the hotel staff for any query (Kwon, Kim
and Park, 2017). However, it makes the customer service process easier but the use of AI in

hospitality industry also increases the probability of hacking where the hacker can easily install
virus in AI and gather customer information.
Thus AI is the most widely used and emerging technology which is highly used in wide
rage of industries but is most imperative use is done in the banking sector. AI allows numerous
banks to easily settle the transaction and thus optimize the money as well as time (Saiz, Bringas
and Ortiz, 2016). It reduces the need of middle as well as back office for settling transactions.
However, making the transactions easier, the entries which are being saved through this
technology do not normally lasts for long time which affects the operations of banking industry
in negative way. It at the end not only increases their time but also doubles the manpower.
This has become the renowned technology which has transformed the lives of great
number of organizations along with wider community. For example- it is widely used in
healthcare industry where it helps monitoring the patients remotely. Through AI, the healthcare
centers are are able to perform the routine test as well as send real-time data to the patient.
Besides this, it also helps healthcare professionals to maintain the EHR which is later on used.
Besides this, AI not always help healthcare centers in positive way but sometimes this often
leads to the hacking of computer system and thus the security of patients are comprised (Janicki,
Fischetti and Burns, 2016).
Issues related to ethics, law and society that can arise
Although there has been an increasing use of the emerging technology AI, but there are
several issues which leads to the threatening of security of most of the people.
Privacy threat
This is one of the most important threat as well as issue that rise due to the emergence of
AI technologies. It is considered as one of the highly known ethical problem that have impacted
the entire society to a great extent. Not matter what the technology is whether AI, IOT, robotics
or anything else, the hackers can easily install virus and malware in system and can steal the
confidential information of customers and people in society (Bailey, Walsh and Stone, 2018).
Cyber crime
Cyber crime is basically the utilization of information as well as data for committing the
large number of crimes. Technologies like AI and integration of virtual reality in it had exposed
the overall society and organizations to this crime and thus have raised an important issue. The
hackers and criminals normally access the computer system and installs the malware through

which they steal the private information of people and customers of organizations. Cyber crime
is considered illegal and thus is against the law. The programme installed enables the hackers to
keep a close watch on the activities of people and employees remotely and hence deface the
company's websites (Lee, Choi and Jun, 2016).
Copyright infringement
This is one of the most widely known ethical issue in information technology which the
AI have cause and thus is having a profound impact on overall society. AI for example have
made it convenient for hackers to access the data and information and this has been threatening
to most of the people having their original work. Besides this, this technology have been the
greatest threat for most of the law firms where data protection act is imperative. For example- an
organization having the copyright of their product can be easily stolen by criminals by installing
the software in their system (Ekezie, Sun and Cheng, 2017).
Ways in which emerging technologies can affect organisations, IT departments, CIOs and IT
professionals
Organizations
The use of AI can affect the organization in both positive and negative way. For example-
the use of artificial intelligence will help the wide range of organizations to automate as well as
optimize their routine processes and will eventually help them to gain competitive advantage.
Besides this, it will help the management of companies to take faster decisions on the basis of
output from cognitive technologies. Although this technology helps the organizations to optimize
their work but they somehow also hinders their overall operations. For example- Due to the
emergence of virtual reality in AI, the contact of employees with each other and the real world
has somehow affected (Kwon, Kim and Park, 2017). Their interpersonal communication has
reduced which at the end affects the overall productivity of these employees.
IT departments
The technologies has not only impacted the wider organizations but have posed a great
effect on its departments. Organization consist of various department like manufacturing,
production etc. but the role of these technologies is imperative in IT department (Saiz, Bringas
and Ortiz, 2016). For example- IT department remain exposed to fraud as number of technical
solutions are being established in this division thus in this context, AI provides connected
sensors as well as security cameras in this department and protect them from various ethical

issues. Besides this, robotics integrated within AI although helps IT department to perform their
functions efficiently but generally have high cost and also consumers more power thus this
affects the department in negative way.
IT professionals
These emerging technologies will not only affect the IT department of different
organization but will also impact IT professionals to a great extent. For example- virtual reality
which is integrated in AI will make the communication between IT professionals and different
department smoother and will enable them to perform their work with more enthusiasm. On the
other hand, it will also affect the professionals in negative like the use of robotics in artificial
intelligence will somehow reduce the interpersonal communications between IT professionals
and they will itself become robots.
Recommendation
In order to protect the people and organizations from the hacking and cyber crimes, the
most important strategy is educating them. People should be made aware of the different
constraint and use of these digital technologies. They should be provided through education on
how to use the various software like AI and how to save themselves from different crimes
(Janicki, Fischetti and Burns, 2016).
Besides this, the most important ethical problem faced by organization is that due to
security issues, criminals are able to spy on the employees and their activities thus organizations
and every industry should have a high security aspect. There should well-through cameras that
should be installed at workplace along with connected sensors to avoid crimes.
Along with this, another step which the organizations can take to prevent themselves
from cyber crime is using two-factor authentication. Whether small or large, all organization
should encourage their employees to make use of two-factor authentication which will increase
the security by protecting their accounts.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been summarized that there are various kinds of emerging
technologies that are being used by various organizations extensively. Each of these technologies
has their own benefits and are used for different purposes. It has been analysed that Artificial
intelligence is one of the top most emerging technology which is being used in various fields
which has also helped in making human work much easier. Almost in all the fields AI is being

used but it has been analysed that scope of each of these technologies is limited not only this in
order to gain maximum advantage many organizations increasingly becoming dependent upon
these technologies because of which various kinds of issues such as ethical issues, social issues
are increasing. It is important to understand the scope of these technologies like Artificial
intelligence and its limit under which these technologies should be used. This is mainly because
these advance emerging technologies like Ai can be easily misused.
