1EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Introduction
Emotional Intelligence refers to capability of the individuals that can help an
individual in recognizing his emotion along with that the other people. Emotional Intelligence
can help in discerning between the various feelings and labelling them in an appropriate
manner. It can help in the process of guiding thinking along with behaviour and it can help an
individual in adjusting the emotions so that they can adapt to the environments (Joseph et al.
2015). This reflective essay talks about my results in relation to Johari Window with that of
the other two people who have evaluated me. It makes use of 4 quadrants of Johari Window
for analysing results. The reflective essay also elaborates on strengths along with weakness
on the basis of survey results and the improvements that can be made in relation to weakness
of an individual. The reflective essay also reflects on the competencies that can be developed
which can help an individual in functioning as global citizen.
Part 1
The Johari Window Model focusses on four aspects: Open, Blind, Hidden and
Unknown that can act as a coaching tool for an individual. The qualities in relation to my
personality that are known by me and the other people are in relation to my interpersonal
skills and my empathetic ability (McCleskey and Berrios 2016). I think that both I and the
people around me are aware of these skills and these qualities of mine are openly
acknowledged by other people. The blind spots in relation to my personality are the ones that
are not known by me but they are the qualities that are acknowledged by the other people.
The part that is not known by me and known by the other people is that I am intuitive and
creative (Shamoa-Nir 2017). These traits of my personality have not yet been discovered by
me but they have been known by the other people. The third quadrant refers to the traits that
are the ones that are known by me but they are not known by the other people. I know that I

have listening skills that helps me in solving the problems of other people and in finding the
solutions to the problems. Fourth quadrant is indicative of the unknown area that is unknown
to myself along with the other people. The fact that is unknown both to me along with the
other people is that I have persuasive ability that can greatly help me in convincing the other
people. There were two other people who had evaluated me on the basis of the Johari model.
The two people who have evaluated me have found out that the other people are not aware of
my empathetic ability (Cabello et al. 2016). The results of the other people highlighted the
fact that the other people are not aware of my creative nature and this is where it differed with
other people. The evaluation carried out by the other people revealed the fact that the other
people are acquainted with my listening skills whereas I had found that the other people did
not know about this ability. On the basis of fourth quadrant, it was found that the other people
had knowledge about my persuasive skills and that they felt that I was endowed with great
about my persuasive skills (Ruvalcaba-Romero et al. 2017).
Part 2
The strengths that I have discovered is that I have great amount of listening skills that
can help me in understanding the point of view of other people. Good listening skills can help
the workers in becoming more productive within an organization. The ability of listening can
allow the workers in building strong rapport with the co-workers along with managers that
can help an individual in growing in an organization (Rasheed 2015). The strengths that I
have in relation to communication skills and the empathetic ability are crucial for functioning
in the present era. The communications skills can help me in conveying my ideas to the other
people in the right manner (van der Linden et al. 20170. It can help me in communicating
about my thought process to the other people that can help me in my professional
development. I am endowed with the empathetic ability that can help me in understanding the
problems that the other people are facing around me that can help me in becoming popular

among a large group of people. On the basis of the survey result, I found out that my
weakness lie in the arena of my creativity that can be improved by doing practical tasks
which can be beneficial for improving my creative faculties. The creative faculties can prove
to be crucial in relation to my professional domain and it can help me in excelling in my
profession (Bahadori, Shiri and Mahdizade 2015). The creative faculties can help me in
gaining innovative ideas that can help my business in surviving within the competitive
environment. My creativity can be increased by talking with the mentors in my organization
that can help me in sharpening my creative abilities. The faculty of intuition can be improved
by undertaking studies that explores the relationship between cause and effect in relation to
different causes (Khatoon 2018). It can help me in sharpening my instinctive abilities that can
greatly help me in my life.
Part 3
The competencies that I would like to develop for functioning as global citizen are my
communication skills along with my empathetic abilities. Good verbal along with
communication skills can help in the aspect of delivering along with understanding
information in a quick and accurate manner that can help me in evolving as global citizen
(Tran 2018). It can help in sharing meaning that can help me in communicating my ideas
along the right lines. Being empathetic can help me in understanding the problem that the
people from the minorities and the diverse backgrounds have to face that can greatly help me
in winning the favour of other people in the event of working in an organisation (Saxena
2015). I work in a culturally diverse global organization called Scentre Group Limited that
has a lot of employees from the indigenous groups of Australia. Building on my
communication skills can help me in effectively carrying out conversation with the
Aboriginal along with Torres Strait Islander people in the organization.
