INTRODUCTION
Employability skills is a capability to gain skills, attributes and knowledge in order to get
employment. All these skills are transferable that are required by a person to make themself
employable. In an organisation it is essential for an individual to have good communication,
teamwork, problem solving skills and self management to work in an effective manner (Benson
and Filippaios, 2014). By having such kind of skills employee can take advantage of increase
their career performance and success. Present study has been conducted on, Travelodge Hotel
which is a private limited company engaging in hospitality services. This company was founded
in the year 1985 with headquarter in Thame, England and UK. In this report discussions have
been made on, developing self responsibilities and performance objectives, motivational
techniques that can be used to improve performance quality. In addition to this, Effective time
management and roles play by team are also include in this project. Lastly, tools and methods in
order to develop solutions and strategy to resolve problem of labour turnover has also been
include in this report.
TASK 1
P1 Able to determine own responsibilities and performance
1.1 Set own responsibilities and performance objectives
Own responsibilities and performance are mainly related to self-management. Every
individual have different set of skills. It is necessary for them to identify their own personal
capabilities in order to generate best possible outcome. Individual skills are important for an
organisation to bring more competitive advantage for their company (Deeley, 2014). It is
essential for an employee to take responsibilities in order to prove their potential in a workplace.
Being employed as a manager in Travelodge hotel. For my personal assessment I choose
SMART tool technique in order to identify my roles and responsibilities. According to SMART
there are some roles and responsibility mentioned below that are accomplished by me:
Evaluate my learning skills that is required in current project or task that is assigned in a
particular period.
Identify various opportunities available in current business surrounding.
Make responsible choices and communicate in effective manner with co-workers.
Complete assigned work in proper time frame.

Have positive work attitude and seek information in order to improve skills and
knowledge.
Performance Objectives: It is a bit complicated process to set and achieve objectives in
a effective time frame. In order to set and achieve objectives it is important for me to thoroughly
asses my own strength and weaknesses (Jackson, 2014). Objectives that are going to benefit me
in the course of my job performance are stated below:
Application of different system through which performance can be raised of
employees: Motivation is a remarkable technique through which quality of performance can be
raised. In addition to this individual appraisal method and modification in reward system also
help benefits in increasing performance of employees. Increase in pay base and provide bonus
and raise in incentives is a best technique to extract best out of workers.
Time management: Time management is a effective skills which helps in increasing
effectiveness and efficiency of performance (Rao, 2014). It is a ability to utilize time in effective
way to increase job performance. As a manager it is essential for me to focus on my skills of
time management in relation to make appropriate plans and exercise conscious control.
All these above mentioned objectives and responsibilities benefits me to identify and
examine my strength and weaknesses. In addition to this, other measures like ethical and legal
responsibilities, problem solving and critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills
can also provide benefit to generate best outcomes.
1.2 Own effectiveness against defined objectives
In order to gain employee loyalty it is not just enough to pay them well. In a competitive
market, it is essential to retain effective and experienced employees in order to increase
organisational productivity. So, I have implemented various motivational techniques to increase
motivation level of my workers. I continuously keeps on determining and fulfilling their
psychological and personal need and lead them in effective way. This will benefits in high staff
retention and decrease labour turnover which helps in reduction of recruitment cost. With
motivation, modification in reward system and increase in pay base I can able to enhance
process of quality of production. All these techniques adopted by me not only benefits
organisation but it also helps employees to increase their job performance and make more career

motivate their employees in best possible manner as if their worker are motivate then they seek
to find so many better ways to accomplish their task and targets (Collet, 2015). Managers of
Travelodge can implement some of the below mentioned motivation techniques to enhance
motivation level of their employees:
Theory X: According to this theory by McGregor, people get easily demotivated and

way. This theory particularly categorised needs in a pyramid form which includes self
actualization need, safety need, social, esteem and physiological need. Mentioned below there
are some points which helps in clarifying needs and essential for every stage of this theory:
Physiological Needs: It include basic human needs like food, shelter, clothing, air and
basic necessities of life.
Safety Needs: Individual seeks to get safe and secure work environment. According to
this need, an individual want a safe and steady employment and they desire to have economic
security and protect form any kind of danger.
Social Needs:Individual working in a organisation is a social being they seek
companionship and belongingness (Mishra, 2014). It is important to create a healthy social
interacting environment which results in effective work and group performance.

Maslow's need hierarchy theory is a quite important theory and plays an important role in
enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of employees. By applying this theory managers will able

2.1 Solution to work-based problems
For this task, selected organisation is Travelodge hotel that operates their business as
second largest budget hotel and third largest hotel in United Kingdom. This hotel have gained so
much of reputation through their services served to their clients. By in the process of serving and
satisfying needs to consumer and employees certain issues and problems are faced by them. That
leads towards high complex working and day to day conflicts in their business environment. All
issues and problems are generated because people have different set of prospectives and
knowledge:
Problems: There are two major problems in Travelodge Hotel, that is communication
and employee retention. Ineffective communication flow and employee retention results in
reduction in hampering growth of organisation and decrease in job performance of employees.
Problem Analysis: It is the first step in resolving issues and problems. In this main
reason behind any particular problem are examined that lead towards effective decision making
process in analysing problem.
Finding Solutions: As a manager of Travelodge, it is my utmost responsibility to assess
every problem prevailing in hotel and then find effective measures to solve them to increase
employee and organisation productivity. I have evaluated certain problems and adopted effective
techniques that are stated below:
Adopt effective communication strategies related to listening skills and gestures to
generate effective flow of information in various level of organisation (Barker, 2014).
Conduct various sessions in which employees can interact with each other and share their
knowledge and skills.
Travelodge is a vast body so it can conduct regular training sessions where their staff get
familiar to their roles and responsibilities in effective way and develop their overall
growth.
Therefore all these measures, will benefit in maintaining proper work decorum and
healthy work culture where employees can increase their area of capabilities and knowledge.

Proper and effective communication in an organisation leads to higher stability and
growth. Communication is vital aspect of every company as its supports them in their day-to-
day business activities. It is essential for Travelodge hotel managers to adopt formative
techniques related to communication to develop proper communication of bridge in their
workplace (Ito and Kawazoe, 2015). It plays essential role in any company to share knowledge
and information in effective way. Proper flow of communication generated new and innovative
ideas in an organisation. Therefore, it is required for managers in Travelodge to implement
proper channel of communication in their company to ensure firm flow of information in their
workplace. There are various form of communication mentioned below at different level of
organisation:
Verbal: This type of communication include oral methods with the help of words and
writings. In verbal communication information are shared through speech, emails, video, letters,
telephonic conversation and memo.

exchanged with the help of facial expressions body movements, voice and touch.

managers take advantage of Belbin theory in order to understand roles and responsibilities and
guide employees in an effective direction. Theory is firmly summarised below into three
categories:
People oriented role: People oriented role are classified into three role coordinator, team worker,
resource investigator. Coordinator is a person who guide their team as a traditional team leader
and are referred as chairman (Jackling and Natoli, 2015). Team worker are the person who
provide their immense support and ensure that their team are working together. Whereas,
resource investigators are a innovative person who identify work and explore various available
options in order to develop contacts and search resources on the behalf of team.
Action oriented role: In this individuals are characterised as a sharper who take various
challenges to improve team, implementer who put appropriate idea into action and a complete
