INTRODUCTION
Skills are referred as the abilities to perform a task or work with determined outcomes
often within a specified time provided for it. Having effective knowledge and skills will help an
individual in performing assigned job in well manner (Barker, 2014). Skills can be acquired by
deliberate, sequential and sustained efforts of an individual to smoothly and adaptively perform
complex activities. This project is a reflective report based on experience that I had in group
presentation exercise undertaken by me during the module. In this, reflection is provided on the
employability skills based on my own experience in the group presentation exercise.
MAIN BODY
Skills are the essential requirement of an individual to get success in his/ her professional
as well as personal life. These skills helps in making an individual employable and attaining a
growth and success in life. So many skills are there which are crucial for an individual including
numeracy, time management/organising, team working, ICT, research, problem solving and
communication skills (Cottrell, 2015). It is necessary for an individual to have these basic skills
as these helps in performing work in more better way. I am a first year student, undertaking the
course of foundation in business and management. During the module, I was assigned with a
task to participate in group presentation and discuss on the study area: “analyse the relationship
and effect that external and internal stakeholders have on business practice”. In regards to this,
the reflection on my employability skills on the basis of the experience I get from group
presentation exercise is discuss underneath.
Communication skills (verbal/oral presentation): These skills are stated as the abilities
that an individual use while providing and receiving distinct types of informations. When my
teacher asked me to give presentation, I was happy and confident as I like to give presentation.
Instead of this, my communication skills are good due to which it was easy for me to conduct
discussion over the topic. As this task was needed to be done in group, I was little nervous as all
the members in team are new to me. But, later on when I started interacting with team members,
I realised that all the members are supportive and by this, my confidence level boost up again.
Problem solving skill: This is the skill which helps an individual in resolving a particular
issue in systematic way (de Schepper and Sotiriadou, 2018). My problem solving skills are
average due to which I faced difficulties while performing group presentation exercise. Due to

ineffective problem solving skill, I faced difficulties in resolving the issues that persisted in the
group. This is my weak area which I realised by participating in group presentation exercise.
Information and communication technology (ICT) skill: This is the skill which is
required by an individual to utilize the elementary functions of ICT in an efficient way. During
group presentation exercise, I realized that my information and communication technology skills
are weak which created hurdles for me in retrieving, assessing, storing, presenting and
exchanging information or data. I also faced difficulties in communicating and participating in
collaborative networks by the usage of internet. This was created difficulties for me in managing
and transmitting information about the subject area.
Numeracy skill: It is the skill that involves different abilities to understand and assess
numerical data and make right decision (Jackling, Natoli, Siddique and Sciulli, 2015). My
numeracy skills are strong which helped me developing logical thinking and reasoning on the
topic. At the time of group presentation exercise, this skill helped me in applying simple
numerical concepts and understanding numeric and mathematical information in proper way.
Time management/ organisation skill: This is the skill which helps an individual in
planning and organising the way to divide time among particular activities. My time
management skill is strong which enabled me to work in smarter way so that it can be completed
on time. During group presentation exercise, I enabled to completed the assigned task on
specified time due to my good time management skill. This helped me in prioritize each work or
activity in sequential way and proper organisation of work that ensured its successful
completion.
Team working skill: This is the essential skill for an individual to get success in any
work (Mok, Wen and Dale, 2016). In order to work collectively with other people, it is very
necessary for me to have good team working skills. My this skill is weak due to which, when my
tutor asked me to participate in group presentation exercise, I hesitate to work in group. Because
of my ineffective team working skills, I faced problem initially. But, later on, when I interacted
with other team members, I enabled to work effectively in team.
Research skill: It is the ability of a person to search and find out solution to a problem.
My research skills are strong which helped me in gathering, analysing, evaluating and
interpreting information on the topic in effective way. This helped me in collecting large amount
of information on the topic to discuss in the class during group presentation exercise.

Above mentioned are the skills among which some of the skills which I possess are
strong and some among them are weak. In order to improve my weak skills, I will undertake
some professional classes, seminars etc. Apart from this, for improving my team working skills, I
will participate more in group exercises. All this will help in my future career growth (Simatele,
2015).
CONCLUSION
As per the above discussion, it has been concluded that skills are very crucial abilities
that helped an individual in performing the assigned job in proper way. Through conducting
reflection on employability skills based on my own experience, I an enable to determine my
strong and weak areas. This reflection provides me with an opportunity to improve my weak
areas. From reflection, I identified that my communication, numeracy, time management and
research skills are strong which helped me in performing group presentation exercise in proper
way. On the other side, my team working, problem solving and ICT skills are weak on which I
require to work upon.
