INTRODUCTION
Employability skills are defined as set of capabilities and competence that are
required in a person for completing the assigned task in effective way. It is vital that staff
members in organization should posses required knowledge and technical competence
so that they can support for growth and success of the company (Benson, Morgan and
Filippaios, 2014). Present report describes about significance of employability skills for
an organization. In addition to that evaluation of own effectiveness and performance
objectives has been done in the report. Moreover, techniques of using motivational
methods for improving quality of performance of employees in the enterprise has been
mentioned.
TASK 1
1.1 Performance objective and set of responsibilities
To work as a manager in Tesco organization I need to fulfil some responsibilities
so that my job should be accomplished properly. Employability skills are most significant
assets that supports staff members of an enterprise to accomplish their desired task in
effective and effectual manner. It is critical that performance objectives should be set so
that on the basis of that required work should be completed (Rao, 2014). To work as
manager of Tesco organization I have developed various performance objectives. It
supports me in completing my work in effective and productive way. My responsibilities
are as described :-
I am accountable for assigning task and daily work to the staff members. I
properly make a work schedule and on the basis of that I assign specific work
and job responsibility to the staff members.
I am responsible for making effective communication with my staff members and
seniors.
I am also responsible for making improvement in my own performing areas and
motivate my subordinates so that they can complete their assigned task
effectively.

In addition to that I am responsible for reporting to the top management and
describing them regarding all the operational activities that are performed in the
enterprise.
I am also responsible for monitoring and reviewing work performed by staff
members.
I am also accountable for motivating my subordinates so that their morale
enhances and they should complete their assigned task in more effectual way.
I am responsible for being aware of code of conduct, policies and procedures
that are needed to be followed in the entity. For example I need to know about
policies that are related to mission statement of organization, occupational safety
and equal employment opportunities.
I need to be aware about the employment rights and responsibilities and main
components that are needed to be included in contract of employment.
I require understanding guidelines that are mentioned in Employment Rights Act
1999 so that I can provide better working conditions for employees.
I will develop my responsibilities by engaging in self learning and it will help me in
acquiring new knowledge that is needed for accomplishing the responsibilities that are
associated with my job.
Performance objectives for me are as mentioned :
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE – SPECIFIC
I need to learn better time management skills so that I can complete my work on
proper time and all the operational activities of entity gets completed on due
time.
I need to acquire good listening skills so that I can listen to the problems and
issue faced by my subordinates.
I need to make significant improvements in my existing communication skills so
that I can make proper interaction with my seniors and subordinates.
I need to learn good decision making skills so that I can handle complex and
critical business situations in effective way.
MEASURABLE - I will prepare a check list and measure daily improvements in
my existing performances.
Attainable- I will daily review objectives that are set by me and I will also set
daily timeline for accomplishing the desired work which I need to perform. All the

objectives which have been set are easily attainable.
Timely manner- I will make significant developments in my weak performing
areas and try to achieve my goals in a time period of one month.
Activities adopted for meeting the performance objectives is as follows :- For
making improvements in my existing communication skills I will watch television shows
and radio programs daily for one hour. In addition to that for making improvements in
my listening skills I will try to make interaction with staff members so that I can learn
ways for listening them. I will join seminars and conferences for making improvement in
my time management skills. I will read books and journals for learning about new
methods that can be adopted for taking effective decisions for the entity.
1.2 Evaluation of own effectiveness against defined performance objectives
Working as a manager in Tesco organization I need to accomplish various tasks
and responsibilities. I set performance objectives and on the basis of that I need to
measure my own effectiveness against the set targets. I set performance targets and
according to them I need to assign task and job responsibilities to all the staff members.
I prepared a time schedule and work sheet in which I mentioned daily work which is
needed to be performed by all the employees. It supported me in assigning daily work
and job responsibilities to the staff members. I have prepared a set of goals which I
need to achieve in a timely bound manner. I have become successful in allotting work to
staff members and I also became successful in measuring work performance of staff
members by making use of check list method.
I have realized that I am weak in time management skills and decision making
skills. I have not taken proper initiates for making improvements in my time
management skills and activities adopted by me for managing my time were not
completed by me properly. I need to make improvements in my listening skills also so
that I can listen to problems and issues that are faced by staff members. I have tried to
make improvements in my existing listening skills and for that I started to listen radio
programs, television shows so that my listening skills should improve. I need more
improvements in my listening skills and I need to take part in some more activeness

have set many performance objectives for myself and due to that it has become difficult
for me to complete all my objectives effectively. It is needed that I should spare more
time for meeting the performance objectives set by me. There are many ways through
which I can make significant improvements in my existing job performances. I will join
seminars and conferences for learning better and effective time management skills. In
addition to that I need to learn better decision making skills and for that I will take
assistance from my seniors and learn effective decision making capabilities. I also need
to acquire some more effective and advanced methods for measuring work
performance of employees. I have gained success in assessing weak performing areas
of staff members and on the basis of that I have arranged training sessions so that
significant improvements can be made in their competence and capabilities.
1.3 Recommendations for making improvements in a specific business situation
It is vital that working manager of Tesco organization I should take effective
decisions for handling critical and complex situations that occur in the company.
Specific situation :- Staff members in my company were facing time management
related issues. It was difficult for completing the work on required time and due to that
efficiency of organization was affecting. Human resource are most significant resource
of organization that supports for achieving the objectives of enterprise in successful way
(Spence and Hyams-Ssekasi, 2015). The situation is related to my performance
objective that was set for making improvement in my time management skills and
communication skills.
Solutions for resolving the problem :-
I need to make proper interaction with staff member and tell them about various
measures that can be taken for making improvement in their time management.
I decided to resolve the situation by taking some effective measures and for
improving time management skill of employees. I can organize a training session
for making significant improvements in time management capabilities of staff
members.

In addition to that I can arrange role playing sessions and management games
so that importance of time management can be learned by workers and they
should complete their assigned work and responsibilities in effectual way.
1.4 Use of motivational techniques for improving the quality of performance
Motivational techniques can be used for improving quality of performance and
enhancing existing skills and capabilities of employees.
Motivational technique :- According to Maslow the important way of motivating
representatives is to satisfy needs (Tsitskari, Goudas and Michalopoulou, 2017).
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs hypothesis bring down level representatives
are especially eager to satisfy their lower level needs. Five stages of needs that exist in
Maslow's framework includes physiological needs, safety and security needs,
belongingness needs, esteem and self actualization needs.
Tesco organization can use following methods for improving the
performance :- Physiological needs of staff members can be fulfilled by
providing them proper wages and compensation and it will support for
meeting their basic needs. In addition to this performance based
incentives can also be given to staff members and it will help in completing
their self actualization and esteem needs.
Top performing staff members can be given appreciation and it will help in
appreciating their performance in front of all the staff members.
Performance based incentives: - Employees can be provided
performance based incentives and it will motivate them to perform well.
Work sheets can be given to employees and they can be directed for filling
those sheets on daily basis (Nathan and Rajamanoharane, 2015). It will
aid for doing review of work performance of staff members and giving
them incentives on the basis of work performed by them.
Job promotions: Employees who are performing their work effectively
should be promoted at higher job positions and it will aid in creating

Organizing seminars and training sessions: - Morale and enthusiasm

sessions for them. External motivational speaker can be invited and all the
staff members should be directed for joining sessions.

2.1 Identification of a work based problem and solution to resolving the problem
Tesco is a leading retail organization that offers superior quality grocery products
for its consumers.
WORK BASED PROBLEM :- While working as manager and leading a team I faced
some problems due to which effectiveness of group working affected. Employees in my
team were facing in making co-ordination with each other and due to that decision
making process in the team were getting affected.
Overall working of the group was getting affected and required objectives of team
were not getting fulfilled. I have developed some solutions for resolving the issue so that
better cooperation and co-ordination can be formed and team working can be
supported. Brainstorming sessions can be organized and all the team members can be
encouraged for giving their suggestions and recommendations for making improvement
in existing team performance. In addition to that interview of individual team member
can be organized and they should be asked for discussing their team related problems.

It will support for assessing major causes that created problem in team working
and better solutions for resolving the issues can be identified. A systematic procedure
will be adopted for rectifying the problem and initially basic problem will be identified.
Structuring of the problem will also be done and more facts, figures, data and
information will be collected for resolving the issues. Alternative options for solving the
problem will be assessed and appropriate decisions will be taken for solving the issues.
Chosen decision will be implemented and monitoring of overall decision will be done so
that review of overall procedure can be done and success of group working can be
ensured.
2.2 Method of communicating the work based problem to the staff members
Methods for communicating work based problem to the staff members :- It has
been observed that Team working in Tesco organization is getting affected and it is vital
that better solutions can be identified for resolving the issues in effective way. The
problem which has been identified will be communicated to top level, middle level and
lower level management. I need to communicate problems faced in the entity to the staff
members so that better ways for resolving the problem can be identified. I will use
different methods for informing employees about the work based problem and solutions
adopted for resolving them. The techniques which will be adopted are as described:
Top level management: I will inform Top level management by sending written
documents and in addition to that oral information will also be provided to top
management people (Guzman and Choi, 2013.).
Middle level management: circulars will be sent to employees that are working
at middle level management and it will support for making staff members aware about
the various team related issues that are faced in the enterprise (White, 2016). I will also
send E-mails to staff members for making them aware about the issues that are faced in
the entity.
Lower level management: . Verbal comI will instruct line managers for giving
appropriate information to the staff members. Moreover, E-mails will be sent to staff
members that are working at lower level management and in addition to that Notice will
be published for making them aware about the problem and their identified solutions to

used for communicating the staff members for the same.
2.3 Time management strategies that are used in the organization
Tesco organization uses various time management strategies for accomplishing
the desired work on proper time. Time management is vary significant and it supports
for allocating the work properly to staff members and completing all the operational
activities on proper time interval. In addition to that time management supports for
reducing the work related stress and anxiety. Time management also supports for
taking better and effective decisions for the entity and eliminating the pressure (Moore
and Morton, 2015). Goals and objectives are achieved with fewer efforts in better
effective way. Some most significant time management strategies that are used in the
company are as described.
Reducing multitasking: When all the tasks and works are started
simultaneously than due to that overall procedure for accomplishing the required work
gets affected. More time is consumed and less efficiency is achieved when various
tasks are started and completed at same time (O’Connor and Bodicoat, 2015). Major
focus is given on avoiding multitasking and due to that time is saved and required work
and task are completed on timely manner. It supports for completing business activities

3.1 Roles played by staff members at work place
Work based problem :- Tesco organization is facing problem due to the
decreasing sales and due to that overall profitability and financial revenue was
getting affected. It is vital that effective measures should be taken for resolving
the matter in effective way. Mutual support given by staff members will support in
mitigating the negative impact of the problem. Employees can be encouraged for
working in a team and it will help for mitigating the work based problem that is
being faced in the enterprise.
Importance of team work :-
Team work supports for finding a better method for resolving a issue that is being
faced in the entity.
Team work supports for completing the desired task and responsibilities in
mutually co-operative and co-ordinating manner.
Team working helps in completing a specific set of work by involving support of
various group members (Beaman, Chapman and Bowen-Jones, 2015).
Mutual cooperation given by staff members aids in resolving the issue that
occurs while working and fewer difficulties are faced in completing a specific
task.
Overall performance of individual staff members enhances when they perform

PEOPLE ORIENTED ROLE :-
Resource investigator: Staff member who will be performing as resource
investigator will be accountable for identifying new ideas and implementing them for
developing better advertising and promotional campaign (Proehl, 2013). Concepts will
be developed for enhancing existing sales and innovative ideas will be developed for
attracting consumers for purchasing products offered by the enterprise.
Team worker: Employee working as team worker will be accountable for helping
the team to evaluate various works that are required to be perform in the team. It
supports in dividing the work equally among team members and required work gets
completed on due time with better efficiency (Hammond, 2013). Sales target will be
given and all the employees will be asked for accomplishing the target which are given
to them.
Co-ordinator: Person who is working as co-ordinator needs to concentrate on
overall objective and goal of the team. Delegation of task and authority is also done
