1.1 Identify the responsibilities and performance objective of their own
My own responsibilities
As being the assistant manager, at Travelodge Hotel I had different responsibilities such as I
had to manage team and evaluate their performance. The main motive of Hotel is to provide
good quality service to the customers whoever visits the company. There are different other
responsibilities that are to be handled by me such as personal responsibility, direct and
indirect responsibility and etc. In terms of my personal responsibility at Travelodge Hotel is
to manage all the work and guide the team and allot them work according to their skills and

time of handling the responsibilities given to me. With the help of responsibilities I easily
communicate with all the people in the organization. I handle the problems and provide
solution to their problem.
In terms of direct and indirect relationships, I communicate with my team and encourage
them so that they can provide opinion in terms of taking up any kind of decisions. I also had
the responsibility to train the new employees and help them in improving their skills. I am
also responsible to assign tasks to the team members according to their capability. At the time

of absence of hotel manage, I also had the responsibility to monitor the staff to the great
extent.

Travelodge Hotel. I had the leadership skills such as handling all the kind of situation,
communicating with the team on the regular basis, solving the problem of team and
encouraging them for completing the task and guiding them to the right direction. In order to
have good performance at Travelodge Hotel, I had to keep my positive attitude towards any
work assigned to me. I should also have the talent to resolve the problem to manage the
operation smoothly.
1.2 Evaluation of own effectiveness in terms of defined objectives
In order to attain the objective as being an Assistant Manager at Travelodge Hotel, it is
essential to adopt performance appraisal approach in the organization. It is successful by
rewarding the employee’s different rewards, bonus according to the performance of the
employees at the Travelodge Hotel. Due to my strong communication skill, I can easily
communicate with all the team members in the organization. Another approach is training

approach as I can provide training for the new as well as existing employees so that they can
make improvement in their skills. This would be helpful in attaining the objectives of the
hotel. Moreover, I also gained knowledge by learning different languages according to the
customer’s preference. With the help of these languages, I can easily communicate with the
customers according to the preference of language (Mumby, 2012). As being the assistant
manager at Travelodge Hotel I can use other methods of evaluating the performance such as
ranking method where the employees will be ranked according to their performance. At last, I
can say that I am efficient enough to make justification of my roles and responsibilities.

helps the employees to get promoted. With the help of performance appraisal, the employees
can get compensation as well as development of employees (Mumby, 2012). This is also
beneficial for the organization.
There are various criteria that can be taken into consideration by the Travelodge Hotel to
enhance the performance. The criteria include such as cooperation, communication skills,
company and department oriented, focus, enhancement from previous evaluation, integrity,
level of knowledge and productivity. With the help of this criteria, the performance can be
evaluated in an effective manner.
1.4 Analyze how motivational techniques can be adopted to enhance the quality of
performance
There are different techniques that can be used by the Travelodge to improve performance
quality. It includes rewards technique that can be used by the hotel to enhance the
performance with quality. It is the way through which employees will perform their task in an
effective manner. When the employees know that they will be rewarded if they will perform
well then all the employees will do hard-work to attain reward. This can be called a
motivation technique that can be used by the company to enhance the good quality
performance of employees. Moreover, the reward is designed through creating the employee's

list according to the performance expectation. The company will also conduct survey of
employees to analyze instances in which employees have completed the expectation of
employees. The rewards can be such as bonus, promotion as well hike in the salary.
Motivation can be defined as the process by which the people get motivated towards their
work. It is important in the organization as without this motivation approach the employees
cannot work effectively in the organization. Without the absence of motivation, the
employees will not be interested in doing the work and due to this, there would be a decrease
in productivity (Bhuasiri et al. 2012). Therefore, it is an important element in the organization
whether it is a small organization or big organization. There are different motivational
theories that can be implemented in the hotel so that employees may be encouraged for the
work in an effective manner. It is described as below:
Maslow theory of motivation
Maslow theory of motivation is developed by Abraham Maslow in the year 1943. This theory
focused on five elements that required to be provided by the employer in the organization in
order to motivate the employees for the work. It includes five elements such as physiological
needs, safety needs, affection, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. Physiological
needs include such as food, water, rest and warmth. Safety needs include such as security and

safety of employees working in the organization. Affection includes such as friendship,
relationship with families. Esteem needs include such as prestige and accomplishment
feeling. Self-actualization includes such as attaining full potential as well as developing
innovative activities (McLeod, 2018). This theory can be implemented by Travelodge as per
recommendation. It would be helpful to motivate the employees by accomplishing their basic
needs. It is a good approach to motivate the employees for their work and earn benefits for
the employees as well as the organization.

It is another theory of motivation developed by Mc Gregor by dividing theory into X and Y.
These theory are on the basis of two leadership styles such as authoritarian and participative.
Theory X employees are the employees who are lazy and do not want to work. They are not
interested in handling the responsibilities given to them. They just pass the responsibilities to
each other. On the other hand, theory Y employees are the employees that are hard working
and handle all the responsibilities with interest. They give innovative ideas for the
employee’s welfare (Slavich et al., 2012). They enjoy work and engage in activities carried
out in the organization. It can be recommended to Travelodge Hotel to implement theory Y in
the organization as this would help in improving the employee's skills and helpful in
increasing productivity.
Herzberg Theory of motivation
This theory of motivation was developed by Herzberg that is also called a two-factor theory.
In the theory, Herzberg explains about two factors that includes motivators and hygiene
factor. By applying motivation factor it enables the employees to work harder. In terms of
hygiene factor, this factor causes employees to work hard less. It can be seen below in the
diagram that impacts of poor hygiene factor can lead to less job satisfaction of the employees
and on the other hand, motivating factor increase the employees to have satisfaction from the

job. Therefore, it can be recommended to Travelodge Hotel to apply motivational factor so
that it can retain the employees for the long-term.

Vroom motivation theory

conscious choices among the alternatives whose main motive is to increase the satisfaction of
employees and reduce their dissatisfaction. On the basis of this theory it has been examined
