Introduction
Alvesson (2018) says that the responsibility of the management is indispensable to provide
the workforce working in the organisations with inspiration and motivation so that these
people can amplify the capability to complete the tasks assigned to them, and fashion a good
relationship with the company beings. Hence, the managers of every company must have a
proper set of management skills so that they can focus on the primary goal of the company.
This study will be focusing on the attributes of the assistant manager in the Travelodge hotel
and the use of different techniques to improve the quality of the services within the
departmental operations.
It will also shed light on the different instances, where the organisation cannot resolve the
issues, and consequently, the different methods that are implemented by the manager to get
away with those issues to enhance the quality of the services to the customers. It will also

the travel and tourism industry. The role of the assistant manager within the organisation will

This part of the study will focus on understanding the different responsibilities and skills that
will be needed to carry on my work as an Assistant Hotel Manager of the Travelodge hotel
and how I can authentically attain my objective. Different motivational techniques will be
analysed, which can help to increase the performance of the employees within the hotel and
performance objectives will be set as well.
1.1 Develop a set of own responsibilities and performance objectives
It is essential for the assistant manager of Travelodge Hotel to be extremely proficient in his
or her abilities as the company is a huge company and has been escalating in international
countries, for which the company will have to provide the stakeholders with the best services
they can. Consequently, I have to be focused on providing the customers with a high-quality
experience and unbeatable value, which can help to broaden the name of the company, all
around the world. One of the responsibilities that the person has to complete is to make sure
that the services provided are of the best quality and the food that is prepared is of a very high
standard (Ambrosius and Cuecuecha 2016). I must be competent in the selling of beverage
and food, and take care of the customer feedback at all times so that the flaws in the action
plans can be changed and betterment can be brought to the company's operations.
The person will also be responsible for creating personal development plans and motivating
the team members so that the performance of the company is at its peak. It is also the
responsibility of the person to take care of the actions of banking, health and safety and route
management. Therefore, it is crucial for me to have proper decision making skill so that I can
make the correct decision at all times, enhancing the productivity of the organisation, and
make sure that the employee involvement in the decision-making process is presented, which
can increase the level of opinions and ideas focusing on the betterment of the company
(Armstrong 2012). I will also have to develop the adaptability skill so that I can operate in the
market correctly and make proper changes to the workplace. I will have to motivate the
employees so that the performance level of the company is at its climax, and these people can
be able to adapt to the changes so that the company can meet the primary goal and the current
objective (Daft 2015).

I will also be responsible for allocating the work to the workers so that they can complete
their work within time and can help in achieving the primary goal of the organisation. I will
have to work according to the Employment Act of 2002, and I will have to assist the
employees to perform appropriately and provide them with the necessities that they need
within the workplace (DeCenzo et al. 2016). I will also have to focus on increasing the ability
to develop the business according to the current market. I will have to follow different
legislations like the Health and Safety Act, which can allow the company to comply with the
employment rights, to understand the ethics and to meet the needs and requirements of the
employees in the workplace.

Specific: I, as an assistant manager, must have the ability to monitor the growth of the
employees and look at the proper functioning of the business.

within the organisation are flawless and the employees of the company can provide the
utmost efficiency (Dhillon et al. 2016). This attribute of myself can help me to recognise the
different ways in which the business must be conducted, and I must associate the skills with
the current demands of the market. It will also help me to focus on the organisational
excellence, and therefore, I will have to look at well developed interpersonal skills, which can
not only increase the communication between us but also creates a relationship that allows
free flow of information and the eradication of the issues and challenges among them.
It is imperative for me to understand the different factors that are affecting the behaviour and
the performance of the employees, and eradicate the challenges so that these people can

perform competently. I will also have to focus on creating short term objectives that will be
aligned with the primary goal of the company, and the tasks must be divided into equal bits or
according to the performance level of the workers so that it becomes easy to achieve the

every employee effectively so that their roles and responsibilities become clear to them as
well as the things that have to be achieved can be understood adequately. I will have to focus
on increasing collaboration within the organisational context and motivating the employees
through monetary and non-monetary incentives, as it is likely to increase the performance of
the people.
1.3 Make recommendations for improvement
It is crucial for me to improve the condition of the workplace and therefore, it is vital for me
to choose the right competencies and skills that can allow me to make the changes, and focus
on creating an ethical culture within the organisation. I will have to adapt myself to the
current conditions of the market and change the operations in such a way that the company
can meet the demands and increase the sales of the company. I would also have to focus on
public relations as this can create increased goodwill of the company, and increase customer
loyalty and satisfaction too. Communication is an essential skill, and I will have to enhance
that skill to make the employees know about their roles and responsibilities and understand
what has to be done to achieve the targeted objectives (Drucker 2018). I will also have to
focus on my delegation skills that can increase the level of productivity and focus on time
management practices so that I can operate authentically and help the company, Travelodge
hotel, to maintain stability in the market. I will also have to focus on increasing interpersonal
correlation with the workers and provide a suitable solution to them at all times.
1.4 Review how motivational techniques can be used to improve the quality of performance
It is essential for me to focus on motivating the employees, it can improve the quality of the
performance, and therefore, one of the best techniques to be applied is employee performance
appraisal. Eubanks et al. (2016) says that this type of motivation allows the employees to be
appreciated, and this motivates them to work harder, but this is not too much effective during
stressful times. Therefore, it is essential for me to provide the employees with monetary
incentives like a bonus to the salary, salary increments, performance bonuses, insurance

Content and process theories of motivation:
Farahmand (2016) clarifies that the motivation of the employees can help to increase the
productivity and reduce the turnover rate, and therefore, one of the best theories that can be
used is the Maslow’s theory, in which the individuals will be motivated according to the
hierarchical needs. According to this theory, every employee has to be provided with the
basic needs which include the physiological needs and the safety needs, the psychological
needs which include the esteem needs and the belongingness and love needs and the self-
fulfilment needs which include the self-actualisation needs (Hale et al. 2019).

The Herzberg two-factor theory can also be taken into action as this can allow the individual
to perform without supervision and can analyse the weaknesses and strengths of the team
members. According to Herzberg, hygiene factors are the factors, which if not provided, can
make the employees remain unmotivated but satisfied (Goffin and Mitchell 2016). Therefore,
this is necessary. However, providing motivational factors can allow employees to stay
motivated and satisfied altogether.

Finally, I to make the workers know about the organisational goals and performance
objectives can use Locke's goal setting theory. I will have to respect the opinions of the
employees and have to provide these people with necessary guidance so that the job role is

to monitor the performance of the employees and gather feedback from them so that the
challenges can be met and their performance can be enhanced, providing them with exclusive
rewards to complete the task efficiently.
