Reflective Account
The reflective analysis basically, helps in critically analysing the experience in order to connect
the ultimate objective. In this report, I will lay the light on the reflective account of my
experience in academic and employability skills. I am going to discuss and explain the learning,
which will help me in the future. From the above research on the topic, I found that there are
multiple skills, which play a major role in employability skills. These skills include teamwork,
solving of the problems, motivation, communication and time management (Abas and Imam,
2016). These skills are desired by employers in order to enhance their performance in the
workplace. I think that these are the skills, which help an individual to grow in their workplace
significantly in order to achieve success rapidly. In order to analyse my own skills, which I have
learnt from the above task, I am presenting this reflective account. I used various learning
models to understand the concept of employability skills; these models include the Gibbs model
and the Kolb’s model. Both these models are essential in reflecting my learning. The eminent
psychologist Graham Gibbs invented the Gibbs model in 1988, whereas David Kolb has invented
the Kolb’s model. Both these inventors of these models believed that learning is just a procedure
and it is developed with the experiences and transformation (Messum et al., 2016). In the Kolb’s
model, the creator has laid the light on four phases such as the concrete experience, actual
conceptualization, and reflective observation of the experience and the reflective observation.
I spent a lot of time in learning and analyzing the Kolb’s model. This helped in developing my
internal cognitive process. I leant that there are various theories and models, which can be
helpful for aiding me in my future professional courses. I have gained a lot of knowledge from
the four phases of Kolb’s model (Burns and Danyluk, 2016). With the help of this model, I will
get the idea of taking the responsibility of the knowledge, which I am acquiring. This model is
helping me to reflect the knowledge and the experiences, which I am gaining in the learning
session about employability skills. The knowledge, which I have gained, helped me a lot for
becoming confident. Confidence is essential in the workplace because ultimately confidence
helps the individual to enhance their performance in the workplace, as the individual believes
that they have enough knowledge to conduct the work. In order to become more efficient in the
future, I will have to ensure of getting enough knowledge and my education qualification

because, with the knowledge and qualification, I will be able to achieve the efficiency in the
workplace. I gained the knowledge about the different skills from the analysis, which is done
above, that there are few core skills, which the employers need in order to enhance their
performance. I leant that communication skills are very important to succeed in the workplace, as
it does half of the work. Teamwork, leadership can help the employers to improve the working
environment for the employees whereas managing time at the workplace shows significant
evidence of the efficient employees (Baker and Robinson, 2016).
Along with Kolb’s model, I also learnt about the Gibbs learning model and this helped a lot in
order to transform my knowledge into the workplace. Graham Gibbs invented this model in the
year 1988 (Langen, et al., 2015). The eminent inventor of the model invented this model for
learning as well as for experience. This model consists of six phases, which I have learnt while
analyzing the employability skills (Suleman, 2016). There are the chronological phases in the
Gibbs model, which include the first phase – describing the experiences, the second phase –
stipulating both the thoughts and the feelings of the experience, the third phase- evaluating the
right or the wrong about the experience, the fourth phase – analyzing the experience. The fifth
phase follows the exploration of the other aspects of this experience and the sixth phase as
concluding the experience. Both these model are similar in kind and are termed as the best
models. For me, both these models helped me in reflecting my learning so far. These models are
helpful in boosting the confidence in an individual regarding the self- reflection.
I also gained knowledge about the employability skills that helps the employers to perform better
in the workplace by enhancing their performance. Every organisation needs these skills in their
potential employers in order to get the success of the organisation (Collet et al., 2015). These
skills as discussed above are the communication skills, time management skills, group work,
motivational skills and leadership skills, etc. I while in my learning process found that these
skills are important for the conduction of any work in the workplace. For instance, I found that
communication skills are very important for the employees to survive in their workplace.
Communication skills help the employees to communicate with other people in the workplace
for interactive purposes. Without communication, the workplace cannot conduct their job, it is
very necessary to have communication in the organisation and communication gap can lead to
future losses of the organisation. Communication includes both the oral as well as the writing.

By learning the communication skills in my learning process, I am able to communicate with my
colleagues easily without any interruptions. With the help of these skills, I am getting more
confidence, which is helping me in enhancing my performance in the workplace. In that case, I
did research and I found that communication skills are the most preferred skills in the
employability skills. In order to achieve the desired position, I need to take the communication
skills seriously for recuperating my performance (Pianpeng and Koraneekij, 2016). I found the
effective measures for improving my communication skills, these measures include various
strategies such as listening, avoiding the distractions, taking the online classes to improve
communication, etc.
After the efficient learning of communication, I found that time management is also included as
one of the important employability skills. This skill is basically, utilizing the time in the best way
possible (Boissy et al., 2016). I found that after the conduction of the research time management
is about conducting the project within a particular deadline for prioritizing the skills efficiently.
The organisation looking for these skills as these skills is highly valued in the workplace. These
skills are unique and make a person stand out from the crowd. I realized that I am good in
managing time as I have helped my friends to conduct and finish their projects on time, in that
case, I need to refurbish my time management skills in order to improve my performance. This
skill is important as it helps an individual by reducing the wastage of time and leading towards to
focus on the productivity of the time. If I can get the ability to managing my time, I will devote
my time in managing my work and reduce the wastage of time. This will eventually help me to
be a productive person and more focused on my future goals. If I will reduce the time for
anything else and focus on the work, I will be determined on achieving the accomplishments and
this will create a positive impression about me in front of the organisation. After finding the
valuable recompense, I am clear in my mind to work on my time management skills and polish
the skills for the best results in the organisation. By implementing these changes in my routine, I
can really improve myself and make me efficient for my future growth prospects.
Another skill, which I learned is leadership. Leadership skills are again very important skills both
in the professional as well as personal life. These skills help the individual to develop the skills
for influencing and guiding other people who have one common goal (Roche et al., 2015). In
order to be in the higher position of the organisation, I have to learn this skill more precisely as

this is the most valued skill among the higher authorities of the organisation. This skill
contributes a lot in making the business lead towards success. While in my learning process, I
learnt that leadership qualities help the individual to be suitable for the higher positions of the
organisation. For my future growth prospects, I need to give importance to leadership skills, as
these skills will help me to grow in my workplace. I need to make the necessary changes because
being a leader is a responsibility and the juniors will follow me. I have to make necessary
changes in my habit such as being more disciplined, determined towards the goal, etc will
eventually aid me in improving my core leadership qualities. I have to be enthusiastic so that the
team members can get motivated because of me, I have to be good in problem solving in order to
solve the problems of my juniors for becoming their role model. All these qualities will
eventually help me to be a better leader and ultimately grab a higher position in the workplace.
After this leadership skill, I learnt about teamwork. Teamwork is one of the most essential skills
for working in the organisation for maintaining professionalism. After the conduction of the
research, I found that teamwork; possess an important part in the employability skills. The
organisation mostly values the people who can work in the group, as they need to maintain the
working environment. It has become a need for organisations to have the employees who can
work together in a team. Most essential qualities of teamwork are the cooperation, patience,
coordination and respect for each other (Lacerenza et al., 2018)). I will ensure that I have these
qualities for improving my performance and become a team player. I have analyzed that with the
help of self-assessment I can achieve my desired goals. I want to conclude that team
management skills are versed and it is effective in the organisation. I just need to polish these
skills for a better assessment in my future workplace.
Concluding all these skills, I want to say that after evaluation and after conducting the proper
analysis on all the employability skills, I found that all these skills are equally helpful in gaining
the desired goal of the organisation. All of these skills are helpful in guiding the company for
better performance and future growth prospects (Noe et al., 2017). I found that from the above-
given literature review and assessing the topic of employability skills, these skills are helpful in
enhancing the measure and activities, which are effective and suitable for the organisation. The
selected ascribe provided above are the reason that the organisation conduct their operations
smoothly. I will try to adapt all these skills in order to expect a bright future.
