1.1 OWN SET OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCES
Leading the team in the organisation is the most important task at any organisation and as
a manager, at the Travelodge Hotel I have the roles and responsibilities of maintaining the

work with full enthusiasm in the team is the main role of the manager.

1.2 EVALUATION OF OWN EFFECTIVENESS
To provide the best customer service at the Travelodge hotel is the main motive of the
organisation for the growth and success of the Hotel. As a manager, I have to ensure that
all the employees should understand their roles and responsibilities in the organisation to

providing the rewards and incentives for their good work.
The training and development programme should be conducted in the hotel to train the

teamwork and interact with each other so that there will be no communication gap
between the employees and the top management of the organisation.
Along with this I also have to maintain the records of the activities performed by every
employee to assess their work and to give them feedback for their improvement. The given
tasks to the employees should be completed on time to provide better customer services
for customer satisfaction (Collet et al., 2015).
The employees should also be motivated towards attaining their objectives and I have to
remind them that they should also bring new innovative ideas in the organisation to bring
the changes that will create the effect in the organisation. And apart from bringing new
ideas the employees should feel connected to the organisation to so that they will work

1.3 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
For the development and the improvement in the organisation the following
recommendations are provided to the Travelodge Hotel:
The first need of the Hotel is to involve all the members of the staff in the teamwork
according to their abilities and strengths and weaknesses so as to complete the given task
on time to achieve the team goals. The employees must use the different methods and
tools for problem-solving in the Hotel. They should ensure that the choice of solution to
the problem should bring productivity in their work and effectiveness in the organisation
(Collet et al., 2015).
To ensure that the work should be completed on the given time period they should be
provided deadlines and the employees should be rewarded with the incentives and bonus
and other benefits for the good work they are performing. The different development plans
and activities should be conducted in the organisation for the improvement of the skills and
abilities of the employees (Collet et al., 2015). For having a clear understanding of the task
staff members have to perform, I have to provide proper guidance to each and every
employee.
For the assessment and improvement of the employees, as a manager, I have to fix some
Criteria for their work. There should be proper interaction between the staff and the top
management team to remove the conflicts between them (Collet et al., 2015).

1.4 USING MOTIVATIONAL TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF
PERFORMANCE
The feeling that arises due to the internal and external factors to give full dedication to the
work to achieve the desired objective is termed as motivation (Danish et al., 2015). They
have the better work environment in the Travelodge hotel and for the development of the
skills and abilities in the employees, they should feel motivated towards completing their
roles and responsibilities (Danish et al., 2015).
For improving the quality of performance in the organisation the various motivational
methods and techniques are being used and these are Maslow hierarchy theory and
Hertzberg two factor theory:
Maslow’s hierarchy theory
FIGURE 1: MASLOW'S HIERARCHY THEORY
[SOURCE: Fallatah and Syed, 2018]
This theory is usually used in most of the organisations to increase the level of motivation
in the employees (Stoyano, 2017). The Travelodge hotel is also using this theory to keep the
9

staff of the hotel motivated. This theory includes the five stages and each stage has its own
significance and without completing the one stage the employee cannot move towards the
other stage (De Vito et al., 2018). The first stage of the theory says that the basic needs of
the person should be fulfilled, and then only he will think of other needs. This will increase
the level of motivation in the employees to reach the next level. The other levels include
the safety needs, social needs, the status needs and at last the self- actualisation. As a
manager at Travelodge hotel, I have to ensure that the employees are getting the proper
benefits and awards that will help in increasing the motivation level to achieve the
organisational goal (De Vito et al., 2018). To reach the destination that is the last stage of
the hierarchy model the employees has to face all the other levels. Thus this model will
help the manager to plan the activities according to the different needs of the employees
and to gain the aims and objectives of the hotel (Fallatah and Syed, 2018).
Herzberg’s theory

According to this theory of the Herzberg, there are two main factors in the organisation
that helps in increasing the motivation of the employees. The two factors that are stated in
the theory are the hygiene factors and the motivators (Alshmemri et al., 2017).
The Hygiene factors such as the mentioned above in the figure are the job security of the
employee, the salary of the employee, the relation with boss etc. These factors play a very
important role in influencing the employees but these factors directly not impact the
motivation among employees in the long term (Sanjeev et al., 2016). But in the absence of
these factors, the motivation of the employees can also disappear.
The otter factor is motivators that help to keep the employees highly motivated towards
their target and goals (Hur, 2018). These motivators include the promotion and growth of
the employees, the responsibility and challenge etc.
Thus both the methods discussed above will help the Travelodge hotel to increase the level
of motivation among the employees.

TASK 2 A WRITTEN REPORT, FORMAL LETTER, MEMO
2.1 PROVIDING SOLUTIONS TO THE WORK BASED PROBLEMS
For providing the solutions to the work based problems, as a manager at Travelodge hotel, I
need to analyse the problem thoroughly with the analysis of the risk involved in adopting
that solution to the work-based problem. And I also have to ensure that the quality of the
work at the workplace should be maintained (Ghaffarinasab et al., 2018). The Travelodge is
facing the various problems and for that, the solutions are being provided by the manager:
Low motivation and low Job satisfaction
The Travelodge hotel is facing the problem of low motivation and low job satisfaction
among the employees. This is affecting the productivity and the efficiency of the work in
the hotel. To increase the motivation and job satisfaction among the employees the
following measures can be taken at the Travelodge hotel (Kiruja and Mukuru, 2018).
As a manager, I have to ensure that the employees are getting a good working environment
at the workplace. Proving the better environment will increase their motivation as well as
job satisfaction (Baumgärtner et al., 2015). The recognition of the employees at the Travel
Lodge hotel will also help the manager to solve the problem (Kiruja and Mukuru, 2018).
The manager should also focus on increasing the skills and productivity at the workplace by
providing the rewards and benefits for the good performance of the employees.
The Travelodge can also conduct activities that will involve the engagement of all the staff
members so that they can interact with others. It is known that communication and good
interaction can solve many problems. By interacting with skilled employees, the feeling of
motivation and job satisfaction will automatically increase (Lu et al., 2016).
Lack of understanding of their roles and responsibilities
The other problem that is arising at the Travelodge hotel is the lack of proper
understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the employees.
