CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 To understand the concept of employee empowerment.
According to Hislop, Bosua and Helms, (2018), employee empowerment is a systematic
procedures of giving authority and responsibilities to employee by employer for completing the
task assigned by management for successful growth of any organisations. In reference with The
Grosvenor Hotel, the managers have to distribute power and role according to designated job
described to every employee's, so that they feel motivated while performing operational
activities. The decision which is taken by each individual in a team allows them to innovatively
think, plan and act accurately taking into consideration proper allocation of all resources in every
department for managing the flow of activities performed in hotel. Employee empowerment
create an environment of mutual trust, accountability between employee-employer, employee-
employee and employer-employer which result in cordial relationship in work culture. It is very
important in retaining quality staff and improving operational performance of employees which
gives major influence on attaining goals of business in order for capturing competitive
advantage in hospitality industries (To Be a Better Leader, Give Up Authority, 2019). When
power are distributed to each employee, it results in raising satisfaction level within staff
members that gives freedom to work effectively and efficiently in producing quality in services
to guest. These initiatives taken by management will enhance growth, from perspectives of both
employee consumer in context with brand loyalty.

responsibilities of employees. Organisation like Grosvenor Hotel ensures that the management
facilitate, inspires and support individuals to take steps by which their work experience can be

empowers them and they give their best to do that job. Effective guidelines must be given with
respect what they have to do and rest should be left on them the way in which things have to be
carried out so that they can bring innovations in their services.
As per Mok, Shen and Yang, (2015), it will also create an affirmative impact on
organisation as each individual will carry out their tasks in their own way which will bring
innovations in their services. This will enable them to push themselves from their boundaries.
Along with this, within Grosvenor Hotel, management as well as leaders inspires
communications which leads to formulation of trust and also generate a sense of security in
employees as their thoughts or ideas are valued. With reference to Grosvenor Hotel, they
provide coaching to their employees so that they can acknowledge their problems and find
solution for the same as well as take actions accordingly. In addition to this when employees
elicit strong performance then they are given rewards to motivate them so that they can work in
similar manner or better than this with respect to future (Leaders Can Cultivate True Employee
Empowerment, 2019).
2.3 Benefits of giving authority to employees to take decisions of their own within The
Grosvenor Hotel
According to Guillaume and et. al., (2017), the best way to make employees feel empowered
is give them power to make decisions. By this individuals feel that they are being valued within
the organisation which creates an affirmative impact on their overall performance. This will also
lead to generation of trust thereby creates effectual employee relation. Transparency can be
brought in organisation through this. Suppose if there is a negative impact on employees of any
decision then there view point can be taken to make them understand the problem associated
with this. When management of Grosvenor Hotel will involve more number of minds within
process of decision making then light will be thrown on different aspects and there might be a
possibility that better idea may be found.
As per Hall, (2016), morale of employees can be boosted which leads to less absenteeism
as well as levels of productivity can be improvised. Working within a team brings up different
solutions which also intensify relationship between management and employees which enhance
employee engagement. In this case, they will not be blaming anyone else but will have a sense of
responsibility as decisions will be taken in a mutual manner. This will lead to creation of a
friendly working environment. The quality of services provided by Grosvenor Hotel is high and
