Theory of Motivation
Maslow's Theory of Motivation focuses on the needs of employees. This theory states
that all the needs are in a hierarchy and after one need is satisfied next need arises automatically.
The needs are mentioned below:
Physiological needs: The most basic need in the hierarchy is physiological need. It
includes the basic needs of an employee that is food, air , drink, clothing, shelter, warmth,
sleep. The basic need of employee is satisfied through salary given to the individual.
Safety needs: It includes the safety and security needs of the employee. As the employees
need safe and security while they work. The safety and security need of the employee can be
fulfilled by providing safety of job and other provision and policies like insurance etc.
Love and belongingness needs: This is the third need in the hierarchy. This means that
the there should be good working environment in the organisation where the individual is
working (Blum, K., and et. al., 2018). This need in an organisation can be satisfied by providing
healthy working environment to the employees. Also if there good relations than the love and
belongingness need of employees is fulfilled.
Esteem needs: Here esteem means respect. Every individual wants that the one is
respected and given a respectful position in the organisation. It can be dome by recognition and
rewarding the work done by the employees. It motivates the employees and keep them working.
Self-actualization needs: This is the highest need in the hierarchy. This need means that
the individual has achieved all that is desired by him. It can be defined as realization of a
person's potential.
The Masclow's Need Hierarchy describes the the needs of an individual and how they can
be achieved.
