Encouragement assists the individuals in realizing that they are capable of doing the allocated
tasks. This realization is necessary in terms of enhancement of the professional skills, which
alters the personality. All these aspects prove true both in the personal and professional life.
In the professional field, motivation inculcates urge among the employees for exposing better
performance (Ibrahim & Brobbey, 2015). Therefore, motivation is interrelated to the
employee performance. The more motivation is given to the employees, the more they would
expose their best performance. This essay would refer to the example of Walmart, United
States for gaining awareness about the motivation provided to the employees.
Discussion
Motivation enhances the performance of the employees of the companies and
organizations. It is the reason for people’s actions, desires and needs. According to
psychologists, motivation is the agent, which exposes the better performance of the
individuals. In case of the workplace, motivation is provided by the managers to the
employees for extracting better performance (Shahzadi et al., 2014). This process reflects the
interaction between the employees and the managers, where the main theme is the transfer of
essential skills, expertise and knowledge from experienced to the trainees.
The basics of motivation can be understood with the help of the theories like
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg’s two factor theory. Maslow believed that with the
growth of maturity, the individuals realize their capability. This capability aligns with the
needs of the individuals, which are physiology, safety, social, self-esteem and self-

actualization. Maslow is of the view that the humans’ needs and desires control their
behaviour (Loon et al., 2018). The needs are arranged according to the priorities of the human
life. Satisfaction of one needs assist the individuals in progressing to the next level of needs.
In the workplace of companies like Walmart, the employees possess all of the needs, which
the managers intend to comply.
