Research Title
Significance of motivation in employee's performance- A case study on LIDL.
Introduction
Motivation is an essential part to employee's performance in the organisation, it has a
direct impact on productivity of employees and organisational performance in the market
demands. This research is conduct to identify the significance of motivation in the employee's
performance. Motivation is an element that is very effectively performed in any organisation as
because it helps in influencing employees to perform in better and appropriate manner. It is
basically a direction or a path which shows one to behave for a situation or on a work (Avey, and
et. al, 2010). It is a psychological aspect where one can get influenced if a positive side is
presented and according to that performance will be carried out by them.
LIDL is a famous retail store which is serving many nation and in large ratio it is
providing its services to Europe and United States. It is located in more than 10,000 places in 28
countries and states. It is having employees of around 315,000 its annual profit by 2016 was
85.7 billion. This report is describing several factors of motivation and techniques that is used
by company to enhance productivity and sales of it. This will help in competing in market and to
develop a good brand image in market (Bakker and Bal, 2010). Critical review will be performed
to better understand various aspects related to motivation so that effective tools can be adopted
by firm to improve performance which will ultimately aid in increasing proportion of sales and
also efficiency will get raised by using different motivational methods. At present era it has
become very essential for a company to concern about employees as because work load are very
high and in that pressure it become very difficult to manage them so motivation is very
necessary.

Research Objectives
To identify motivational factors that can be implemented by LIDL.
To evaluate employees performance in LIDL.
To analyse impact of motivation upon employees and their productivity.
To recommend strategies to improve performance to compete with competitors.
Research question
1. What are the motivations factors that LIDL can implement?
2. How employee's performance can be evaluated?
3. What are the impact and importance of motivation upon productivity of employees?
4. Recommend strategies that firm can opt.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is a method of studying several aspects of research with context to
authors and various writers. With their view points and contradiction as review is been
performed so that effectively concept and implementation can be studied.
According to Brian Tracy 2017, there are numerous factors of motivation that are
performed in the cited organisation. Elements that are related to motivations are, leadership.
reward system, structure of work and organisation's climate and environment. Leadership is one
of the key aspect which is very helpful for a company to determine that how employees are
having perception for a particular organisation. It is very essential for LIDL to implement
effective an most acceptable style of leadership so that employees can be able to adapt their
guidance and to perform in appropriate manner. Reward system is a method through an
organisation is providing different awards to employees. It varies organisation to organisation,
and department to departments. This is a method which is very helpful for a firm to increase
productivity and for employees to increase their motivation. Organisational climate is an
environment where employees are performing their activities, it is very important to create an
effective surrounding so that motivation of employees get increased and better productivity can
be performed by them. Structure is a patter and culture that a company is following, hence it has
to be very attractive and supporting, it must not be rigid as times when cannot be changes.
Asserted by Carsrud and Brännback (2011), employees performance evaluation is very
important so as to increase overall productivity of a company as well as for competing and

getting competitive advantage in market. There are four aspects through which employee's
performances can be evaluated such as involving everyone. Coin approach, core values and lunch
meeting. These are performed by company so that effectiveness and efficiency of workforce can
be analysed appropriately. These are used in proper way as their performances are resulting in
attainment of organisational goals and set standards to meet present market conditions.
As per Danish and Usman (2010), motivation is very essential part that has to be adapted
by company as because this will help in influencing minds of manpower and with aid of several
factors enhancement in their performance can be done and also sales and operations of firm can
be performed in more attainable manner. This is very helpful in carrying out activities and
functions in a firm in suitable manner as motivated employees will be performing with their
positive mind and it will result in unpredictable growth in market.
According to Hafiza and et. al (2011), company has to use several strategies so that employees
can be motivated this will help in enhancement of employee's effective working for that task
which has been allotted to them. Maslow's Need Hierarchy model has to be adapted by
organisation so that employees will get motivated through this as their needs are getting fulfilled
with this and with its support workforce will get motivated which ultimately lead in attaining
aims which is to improve productivity and sales of the company.
3. METHODOLOGY
Types of Methodology
Qualitative and quantitative are two main methods which is used in researches,
qualitative research method is used to analyse reviews and perception of small group of people.
Quantitative research method is effective for analysing numerical data from large a group
members. In this research qualitative research method will be use because it this research will be
conducted on the small group of people in the LIDL.
It is a method through which different techniques are used so that research can be
performed in more effective and appropriate manner. It is very useful as because with its help a
systematic study can be performed by researchers. There are some elements that has to be
considered such as-
Research approach: It is an important aspect as it will help an organisation in attaining its goals
and set objectives and will be able to gather an effective information of the desired topic and

problems. Inductive and deductive approaches are there, where one is based on theories and
drawn principles where as other is based on hypothetical aspects (Herzberg, Mausner and
Snyderman, 2011).
Research philosophy: It is used by researcher for understanding different consequences that a
company could face. Interpretevism is a philosophy where perceptions are done regarding topic
positivism is an aspect where scientific approach is adapted.
Research design: It is an important aspect as because until and unless one will not properly plan
a research effective study can not be performed. There are numerous method to design a research
like exploratory, descriptive, experimental etc. Mostly research are performed under descriptive
study as this project is done, as per nature of research the design is adopted.
Data Sampling
It is a method through which researcher will choose a group of people for carrying out
their research study. There are different methods of this like random, systematic and stratified
sampling (Herzberg, Mausner and Snyderman, 2011). Random sampling are used mostly as
research study can perform effectively.
Data collection: It is a method through which investigator can be able to gather data and
information, so that research study could be conducted in m ore effective manner. There are
basically two methods of collecting data primary and secondary, primary are those where
questionnaire, surveys are performed whereas secondary are those where books, journal and
online references are used to collect relevant data as per requirement of topic and study.
Data analysis: It is a technique which is used by investigators to analyse data that has been
collected, quantitative and qualitative methods are there, in quantitative methods statistical
aspects are used and in qualitative technique thematic analysis are performed.
Source of data
As to effectively carry out research, different resources has to be concerned in most
appropriate manner so that efficiency can be attained for the study. There were use of both
primary and secondary resources so as to gather information relevant to the study. Primary data
are used by researcher for identifying the relevancy of information, this is very helpful as
because it will lead in attaining success. Secondary data are those resources which are gathered
through books, journals and online (Liao, Martocchio and Joshi, 2010). These are the resources
which are very necessary for investigators to consider as because this will be very useful for

smooth functioning and for effectiveness. As to fulfil research aims and objective it is very
necessary to consider these two aspect as because it helps in sustaining market and to enhance
productivity of employees in an organisation.
These sources are very complex so in careful manner it has to be evaluated as because
this will take time to perform. Research question are framed so as to get a proper guidance to
carry out operations and activities in appropriate manner. Along with this hypothesis are made so
that considering a basis further study can be carried out (Paarlberg and Lavigna, 2010).
Hypothesis will guide an investigator to analyse several information and data so that appropriate
result can be collected and with this researcher will be able to obtain standards that has been set
as aims and objectives.

organisation as to implement techniques and methods of motivation to enhance employee's level
of motivation, several aspect has to be considered by it. There are various factors that are
contributing in process of research that has been conducted by LIDL can be cost, resources, time
and risk. Cost are very important aspect as because to carry out a study financial aspects are very
essential and to manage them is very difficult. It is very necessary for a company to evaluate all
cost aspects and according to that budget has to be prepared so that effectively project can be
processed (Bakker and Leiter, 2010). Resources is also one of the major element that has to be
considered by researchers as because there are numerous sources that are participating in
carrying out research in appropriate manner. These are playing a vital role in different methods
of research study. Risk is a factors that is very high while performing this as because there are
chances where conducting a research will lead to an ineffective result that are not suitable at all
for an organisation. Risk is a factor that is contributing in the study it may be high and may be
low it depends upon nature of topic. Time is a very important element that is having its
conducive in related study (BRADY GERMAIN and Cummings, 2010). Limitation of it is very
high, as on a set period research has to be performed and along with that relevant information
should be gathered.
4. DATA ANALYSIS AND FINDINGS
