Chapter 2: Literature review
2.1 Introduction of literature review
In this chapter, researcher will critically evaluate different viewpoints given by different
authors with regard to motivational techniques used by company to retained workforce. In
order to achieve research objectives, researcher have divided this chapter indifferent themes
and in each theme both the negative and positive viewpoints of authors will be stated.
5.2Main body with heading and sub-heading
Theme 1: Concept of employees motivation within the company
As per point of view of Rodríguez and et.al., (2019), employees motivation is
important for organisation as it helps in inspiring employee's to give their best so that
company can retained its market positioning for longer time frame. The word “ Motivation”
literally means that movement or things that influence individual to make best utilisation of
its existing capabilities, skills for achievement of end goals. Therefore, it is all about
engagement of employee's towards organisation so that they are motivated to be part of firm
for longer time frame. Intrinsic and extrinsic are two motivation that inspired individual to
11 | P a g e
Document Page
enhance their overall performance. Employee's motivation is intangible in nature as it is
quite difficult to measure the level individual are motivated and satisfied to work with
organisation. Manager must have deep knowledge regarding the method which it can use to
motivate employee's so that company can enjoy high profitability. Segmentation of
individual on the basis of their preferences will effectively helps in deciding motivation
techniques and increase employee's engagement. Therefore, employee's motivation helps in
coordinating diverse individual to work as team rather for achievement of common goals.
From the view of points Klopotan, Mjeda and Kurečić, (2018), intrinsic motivation
can be termed as internal motivation that inspired individual to give its best so that company
can growth and sustain for longer time frame. Common qualities that are present in motivated
employees is curiosity, acceptances, desires and honour that helps in achievement of goals.
Further it has been identified that continuous praise helps in increasing internal motivation
level of individual. On the other hand, another author states that extrinsic motivation means
employee's are inspired through external factors like rewards and recognition. There are
some individual that only get motivated through external sources rather than internal in order
to complete several task in most effectively manner.
Another author Kruglanski and et.al., (2018), also supported that bonus, awards and
perks are some of the method that are used by manager to motivate employees to make
optimum utilisation of their capabilities so that company can attained end objectives. At the
same time it has recommended that manager needs to be careful while making use of
extrinsic rewards to motivate employee's as too much of anything is harmful. Moreover, it
has stated that motivation is important in every sphere of organisation as it helps in inspiring
individual to enhance their overall performance so that company can attained its end goals. It
contribute in building interest and zeal among several individual which enhance efficiency of
employee's and lead in growth and success of firm in external environment. Therefore
motivation is nothing but an action of inducement of different individual to work as a team
for achievement of common goals.
In the opinion of Decety and Yoder, (2017), there are some reason which inspired
individual to work for organisation or behave in specific manner so that best outcome can be
achieved in limited time frame. So, the concept of employees motivation refers to willingness
to make use of energy in order to attained desired goals. Therefore it is burning passion that
inspired employee's to contribute their best in growth and expansion of business so that it can
enjoy maximum market share in external environment for longer time frame. Different
people have different needs and preferences therefore manager needs to decide appropriate
method which it could use to influence individual. So as per the author employee's
motivation is concept of inspiring individual to work hard thereby company can enjoy high
market share.
Theme 2: Different motivational techniques used by company to retained or motivate
employee's
As illustrated by Porreca and Navratilova, (2017), organisation in order to make
workplace highly productive and performance it needs to keep employee's motivated and
energetic. As an more motivated employees will be influenced to learn new skills and talent
12 | P a g e

that can contribute company in retaining and gaining competitive advantages. There are
various method that are used by manager of company in order to motivate employee's such as
it regularly takes their feedback in order to their relative feedback. Asking individual
suggestion helps in creating a feeling of belongingness as they feel valuable when manager
consider the viewpoints. Another motivational techniques which could be used by manager to
motivate employees is rewarding and recognised employee's for their hard work and
determination. Personal enrichment program are also one of the best method or techniques
that could be used to motivate employees as it helps in their development of respective skills
and talent. Supportive and friendly environment provided to employees also contribute in
influencing employees to work on their performance and productive so that company can
enhance its market share in competitive environment.
According to Rhew and et.al., (2018), manager can also make use of more
motivational techniques in order to inspired wide range of employee's to make optimum
utilisation of their skills so that company can enjoy high profitability. Like it by focusing on
ensuring job security and safety of employee's can motivates its to work freely and hardly for
benefits of organisation. At the same time it needs to focus on building social relationship
among employee's so that they employee's are ready to work with different individual for
achievement of specific goals. Therefore, a good management system, clarity of roles and
responsibilities need to be completed by specific individual helps in making employee's
happy and satisfied.
From the view point of Priarso, Diatmono and Mariam (2019), celebrating
achievement and milestones is another techniques that is used by manager in order to
motivates employees to work hard for great success of organisation. Gratitude, respect,
recognition and rewards are also various motivational techniques that contribute in
enhancing overall performance and productive of employee's in better manner. Financial
incentive, bonus contribute in making employee's happy and satisfied to work for growth and
expansion of enterprise so that it can enjoy maximum profitability. Thus, as per view of
author all these motivation techniques will contribute in retaining maximum number of
individual in the organisation for longer time frame.
The author Çetin and Aşkun (2018), identified positive impact of using different
motivational techniques such as all these techniques contributed in enhancing performance
and productivity of company thereby giving maximum value to customers. Motivation
techniques also lead in reducing employees turnover rates and building strong brand image in
minds and hearts of customers. All individual will be motivated to come to organisation on
regular basis as they are highly motivated and satisfied with the organisation. Furthermore it
can be illustrated that It also helps in delivering qualitative services to customers as highly
motivated employees give more efforts so that needs of people can be meet. So, it can be
stated that it motivation techniques has great impact on growth and sustainability of
company.
On the contrary note, another author illustrated that there are some of negative impact
of making use of different motivational techniques by manager. Such as manager may not be
able to motivate all individual on equal basis as each individual have different needs and

preferences. There may be some employees that may feel affiliated that manager focused on
needs and requirements of particular individuals. Therefore, while using several motivation
techniques manager needs to be highly concerned about motivation techniques needs to be
used so that each employee's of company can feel happy and satisfied.
Theme 3: Significance of motivated workforce for growth and success of organisation
As noted by Frazier and Tupper, (2018), motivated workforce are significance for
growth and success of organisation as it helps in enhancing productivity of each employee's.
Such as motivated employees are ready to effectively and efficiently work so that company
can enjoy maximum market share and profitability. Another importance of motivated
workforce as per the author is that it helps in brining innovation within organisation.
Employee's are motivated to find new and new method to complete the task so that company
can retained its market share for longer term. Moreover, it is also important as it contribute in
reducing staff turnover, chance of absenteeism thereby leading in delivery of services to
customers in limited time frame. Therefore, there are various importance of motivated
workforces so manager needs to make use of different techniques in order to make them
happy and satisfied for development of firm.
According to Dewi (2019), the employee motivation is a key part of the organization's
success. Without effective motivational activities, the companies face lower productivity,
reduced output level and demotivated employees which more or less effects the overall
achievement of organizational goals and objectives which leads the company towards the
risky position. However, Vlacsekova (2017), critically evaluated that employee motivation
sometimes creates conflict and tension at the workplace because of not receiving same level
of motivation which may results in felling stressed and create discord.
Truxillo (2020), explained that the importance of motivated workplace for
organizational growth plays a vital role in the profit and non-profit activities of the company.
The primary step of managerial process of direction is motivating the employees towards the
completion of organizational tasks. On a contrary note Badubi (2017), argue that
unmotivated employees do not take interest in the organization. They try to spread rumours
within the company.
According to Christensen (2017), the effective motivational activities improves certain
prospects such as Increases productivity and ensures organizational efficiency. Impressive
motivational activities increases the productivity of employees and thereby creates the drive
to work to the best of their abilities. A well and inspired employee always willing to put their
complete effort towards the betterment of the company. Companies use many ways to reward
and motivate their employees. Ensures organizational efficiency with the help of
motivational techniques, the managers are able to change the attitude of the employees in the
organization. The presence of such kind of approving attitude allows the company to prosper
the successful position in the market space. However, as per the view of Diamantidis
(2019), employee motivation sometimes undermine loyal workforce if it lacks in ensuring the
loyalty of employees towards the organization. The bonus scheme of companies offers their
employees to contribute towards the success in motivating the candidates but it also creates
14 | P a g e
Document Page
an environment of competition which creates discomfort and chaos among the employees.
Due to this some employees may feel disappointed and demotivated.
Chahar (2020), states that though employee motivation facilitates direction to the
employees of the organization but as the managers of the organization discuss with each
employee about their performance where the factors considered by the managers are
customer service, how well and fast they complete their tasks, etc. this particular method
sometimes demotivate some employees because the discussion of performances performed in
such manner that each and everybody well-known about the performance award given to
specific employee so, in such case those employees who did not receive the performance
appraisal feel disappointed and dissatisfied from the company.
But on a reflective note, Lin (2018) explained that employee motivation increases the
loyalty of employees towards the company because a satisfied employee works longer than
dissatisfied employees. The directional process is possible when the employees of company
work in the direction which is determined by the managers of the company because it
requires motivating workforce within the organisation. With the help of various motivational
activities, establishment is able to create an environment which facilitates directions to its
employees.
2.3 Conclusion of literature review
In the chapter headed literature review, researcher considered all the viewpoints given by
authors which include both favour and against views. Thereby it can be stated that that
literature review has helped in supporting various data and information related to motivation
that lead in growth and success of firm. Moreover it can be understand that review of various
author are taken in order to gathered accurate, reliable and appropriate information related to
employee's motivation.

Chapter 3: Methodology
In the chapter of methodology, the tools through which information has been collected by
researcher, its presentation and the appropriate technique for analysing data will be stated.
The whole researcher's approach in carrying out research objectives will be mentioned by
justifying the same through stating reason for choosing a particular alternative. How
researcher will collect information, from whom it will be collected, who would be forming
part of our sample, etc., would be the matter mentioned in this chapter. In the closure of this
chapter it has been evident that how researcher has maintain reliability and ethics in
collecting and presenting information for this particular study.
3.1 Research process
In this section of methodology, the whole process that is being followed by researcher in
solving its research problem has been explained. Research process begins from defining a
problem or topic on which the whole study will be based and continues till some conclusions
and recommendations can be derived through the study so conducted. Here in this particular
study researcher has first defined research topic, after that aims and objectives for
undertaking this research has been explained, then questions that will be addressed through
this research has been stated (Moodley and Hove, 2018). In the second stage, a detailed
review of already existing literature given by various researchers earlier has been included.
This section has both favour against views of authors which is mentioned in thematic form.
Thereafter, researcher has defined various approaches, tools, techniques and methodologies
adopted in this research. After adopting and stating the same whatever the data has been
collected and analysed, various findings has been communicated along with concluding the
whole research and recommending better motivational techniques to companies in order to
retained maximum number of individual within firm for longer time frame.
3.2 Research approach
Research approach are plan and procedures that are used by scholar in order to
collect, analysis and interpretate information or to effectively study on particular topic. It can
be stated that there are two types of research approach which could be used by researcher in
order to complete the study on topic and gathered necessary information. Like inductive and
deductive are two research approach, in inductive approach is common to perform as no
theory is used to test the same. Moreover it involves three stages such as observations,
observe a patterns and develop a theory. On contrary, deductive approach always start with

Document Page
an theory therefore if there is no theory then no deductive research. Therefore it can be
illustrated that inductive aims at developing theory on the other hand deductive is testing the
existing theory. Scholar has make use of inductive approach in order to pursue research as it
moves from specific observation to broad generalisations.
3.3 Research strategy
Research strategy helps in guiding the researcher regarding the way it will be plan,
execute and monitor or various method that would be used by scholar while collecting,
analysing information. Moreover, it introduce about the main components of the project that
is research topic areas, perspective, design and method. Or it defined the way researcher
propose the answer of question and implement methodology. Case study is one of the
research study that helps in depth investigation of particular case or any organisation.
Qualitative interviews is another research strategy in which interview of various individual is
taken in order to gathered relevant information related to the study. Whereas, quantitative
survey is most used method in business research which helps in access data of large number
of individuals (Moodley and Hove, 2018). So, statistical or numeric are used in order to
gathered, analysis and understand relevant information. Last research strategy is action
oriented is participatory process that helps in brining together theory, practices and reflection.
Out of all of the above research strategy, researcher has selected qualitative interviews to
conduct the research to gathered deep analysis and better information.
3.4 Research methodology
Research methodology explained about the path that is selected by researcher in order to
gathered relevant information. In another words, it specific the method or steps that are taken
by researcher to formulate objectives, identified problem and represent results or outcome.
So, that it can be stated that it include research method that are used by researcher in order to
complete the study and find accurate information. This is broad chapter that outline various
points such as research strategy, design, the way data will be collected, research limitation
and ethical consideration. Thus, it can be stated that main purpose of research methodology is
to satisfy research plan and target devised by researcher. It normally began with type of
research whether qualitative or quantitative, research approaches that is inductive or
deductive, then philosophies which is interpretativism and realism. Therefore, it can be
understand that research methodology describe about the several method that are used by
scholar to pursue and finish the study (Maithya, Mukolwe and Waka, 2019). Like in order to
make the study, researcher has make use of qualitative research as it helps in deep analysis or
understand rather than quantitative method which involves use of statistics. Out of two
approaches, scholar used inductive as it helps in developing new theory. Interpretativism
philosophies has been selected by researcher while conducting research as it helps in
integrating human interest into study. So, all these were important method which has been
used by scholar to accomplish the research and effectively analysis information. Both
17 | P a g e
Document Page
primary and secondary method of data collection has been used in order to make research
such as interviews of respondent. Moreover information has been taken from secondary
sources like books, journals, articles and etc.
3.5 Research instruments/tools
Research instruments is tool that is used by researcher in order to gathered, measure
and analysis data related to specific topic or subject areas. Researcher is responsible for
deciding appropriate tool/ Instruments that it can used to pursue the study so that accurate
and reliable information can be gathered. Instruments that needs to be used such as
qualitative, quantitative or any other generally depends upon type of study researcher is
doing. Like for example, for qualitative and primary data collection, interviews or survey of
individuals can be taken in order to gather accurate information (Babariya and Gohel, 2017).
On the other hand, in context of quantitative, scale may be used so instruments that used in
research mainly depends upon type of study scholar is undertaking. There are several
characteristics of good research instruments such as it should be valid, reliable, must be free
of bias and should be related to the content. Interview, observation, survey are different tools
that are used by scholar while conducting the research. All these helps in effective collecting,
analysis and interpretation of information and making research more useful for others.
3.6 Sampling
Sampling is a process that is mostly used in statistical analysis for predetermined number of
observation from large number of population. So it can be stated that sample is taken from
group of individual that actually participate in the research. Probability sampling and non
probability are two common method that are used by scholar to complete the project.
Probability sampling include random selection whereas non probability sampling include non
random selection. Probability sampling is an terms which explained that each individual is
given equal chance of being selected therefore it is used in quantitative research. So, this is
suitable when researcher wants to represent the whole population. It is further divided into
different categories such as simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified
sampling and cluster sampling (Jacobs and Huldtgren, 2018). Systematic sampling is also
somewhat similar to simple random sampling at the same time more easier to conduct. In it
each individual of group of population is selected at regular intervals. On the other hand
stratified sampling involves segmentation of population into sub groups which have some
difference. So, out of the above four method of research, the scholar has make use of simple
random sampling which involves randomly taking view of few individual out of large
population. In order to understand or get necessary information related to the topic.
Therefore, 50 respondent of ASDA has been taken in order to complete the research on the
topic and meet end outcome.
18 | P a g e
Document Page
3.6 Ethical implications
Ethics are set moral principles that are followed by scholar while making the research so that
no harm or undue influence can be caused to any individual. Systematic record or
maintenance or recommendations of what is right and wrong behaviour while conducting the
research. Likewise researcher has considered all ethical values, moral principles while
making the study so that it can be easily reliable and trustable by maximum number of
individual. Moreover, consent from respondent has been taken in order to gathered their
information which has helped in abiding to all ethics. At the same time, citation has been
made wherever required so that users can understand from which sources it has been taken in
order to make research (Healey, 2017). No discrimination or biased is done among the
respondent while collecting information thereby all individuals have been given equal chance
to share their respective views. The data that is gathered from various sources are reliable and
valid or published by well known author thereby it enhance validity of data collected and
analysis. Therefore, ethical implication related to research has helped in making research
more useful for different individual.
Chapter 4: Findings (data presentation)
It is chapter that represent finding or result of various research conduct on
particular study so that necessary information can be gathered. Scholar has make
use of thematical analysis method in order to analysis, interpretate and understand
information in better manner. It has logical arranged them in sequential order so that
users can easily understand and interprete the same. So, this chapter has include all
necessary information related to finding of the research.

frame. There are various efforts that can be included by the managers of the
organization in order to motivate employees such as: managers foster open

appreciation among employees and with this activity taking feedbacks from the
