Introduction
The essay helps in the analysis of the employee wellbeing and the importance of the
same in managing the performance of the company as a whole. The employee well-being is
considered to be more than physiological or the mental ill-health- it is regarding the
optimization of health of the different employees who are working in different sectors in the
work front. In the essay, the main aim and purpose of the essay is to identify the different
kinds of advantages and importance of the well-being of employees in a positive manner with
the help of different examples of companies.
Overview on Employee Well-Being
As commented by Zacharias et al. (2019), employee well-being and health is
considered to be the vital phenomenon for the different successful companies. The staffs are
considered to be the important weapons of the company and they are the ones who help in
inspiring the productivity and implement the smart work successfully. As opined by Wang et
al. (2015), the happy employees are the equally productive employees and the staffs who are
stressed or disillusioned, they are the ones who are not performing effectively and their
morale is low. As per the different surveys which was conducted among 1000 HR
professionals, it has been noticed that more than 35% of the bosses encourage the proper
well-being seriously and these employees enjoy the healthy work culture as well. On the
other hand, more than 31% of the employees commented that there was no such motivation
among employees which led to the lower morale and high sickness (Szrek et al., 2015).
As described by Souza et al. (2015), there are four aspects in the integrated well-being
which mainly encompasses of the four dimensions of the well-being of employees- financial,
physical, social and emotions which are the key aspects in creating greater engagement
among employees.

2HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Physical Well-Being- As opined by Smith, Damron and Melton (2015), as to thrive
physically, it means that the management of the company is capable of taking the appropriate
actions and preventive measures for improving health status of the different individuals
successfully. With the help of the same, it will be successfully returning to peak functionality
at home as well as work. As described by Richardsen (2017), the physical well-being plays a
critical role in the organizational front as when the employees will be physically fit, they will
be able to perform the work performance in a successful manner.
Emotional Well-Being- As commented by Qaisar, Mariam and Ahmad (2018), the
emotional well-being is the critical element which means self-aware and maintaining good
mental health and being resilient through managing stress. It will be capable of coping with
positive as well as negative emotional triggers and dealing with life crises along with
maintaining stability through illness as well as injury.
Financial Well-Being- As described by Orvitz (2018), the achieving the state of
financially secure means having ability for managing budgetary commitments along with
protecting against the risks. It will be saving for the different contingencies or the future
needs such as workplace and coping up with the different financial shocks.
Social Well-Being- As described by Ogbonnaya, Daniels and Nielsen (2017), the
social well-being is connected by understanding how to interact well with others, accepting
diversity along with being inclusive in collaborating with one another. It will be successfully
resolving the conflicts as well as adapting the change.
Each of the dimension is unique and it is intertwined with the others. The integrated
well-being tries to begin with the different individuals and when it is achieved throughout the
companies, it will be capable of securing the health and growth of the employees. The four
aspects such as financial, social, physical along with emotional well-being are managed with

the ideal state of well-being (Mazur and Mazur-Małek 2017). For the different businesses, it
is highly essential to have those who work for the employees to become fit, happy as well as
healthy. It can be done through creating the work culture which will be promoting the health
through the different aspects of the lives. When the employees are happy with the working
environment, it will be helpful for the following aspects which are as follows:
It will be lowering the turnover rate among employees is the first and foremost aspect
which will be effective in managing the business operations successfully. For thriving the
business successfully, the thriving employees is the key element that is needed to be done by
the organizations (Lee et al. 2017). While it is regarding running a successful business, the
turnover among employees is the key element which can be worrying the business. When the
staff members quit, the potentiality of the business can be reduced and it will be affecting
productivity of the company as a whole. Therefore, the employee well-being can be done
through incorporating the policies related safety of employees will be increasing and boosting
their morale in performing efficiently and generate high level of productivity successfully
(Lacy 2018).
In addition, as commented by Kim et al. (2019), as the employer, it is their sole
responsibility to take care of the different needs of the employees. It has been proven that the
proper health and well being of the individuals will be making the employees more
productive. The healthier as well as happy employees play a vital role in outperforming in the
company and it will be impacting the productivity and profitability of the company as a
whole. There will be reduction in the rate of absenteeism and the employees are highly
engaged in performing the tasks.
Moreover, as described by Hull and Pasquale (2018), there are different bottom line
benefits wherein the trend is common in the business in the current scenario which includes

the fact that the good health is the good business. When the same comes to the bottom line
tactics, these are the few tactics which are essential in implementing the scheme related to
health that will be effective in improving the performance of the company and the employees
as a whole.
On the other hand, as commented by Hanna, Kee and Robertson (2017), there are few
limitations of the employee wellness programs that include the incurring of high costs. The
implementation of the employee wellness programs is costly and along with the costs of
employees that can be difficult for some companies to continue with the respective process.
Due to the respective aspect, it can be impacting the performance of the company negatively
and impact the investments of the company negatively. Moreover, while implementing the
different schemes related to health and safety among individuals, it can be impacting costs of
the company and there can be employees who can be taking advantage of the process
(Gubler, Larkin and Pierce 2018).
Example of Google in Attempting for Employee Well-Being Initiatives
As the war for the talent heats up, the growing number of organizations are investing
heavily on the different kinds of wellness programs for making the employees happy as well
as satisfied. In such scenario, the technology sector is gearing up for the same and they are
planning to implementing high perks at the companies such as Google. Sundar Pichai, the
CEO of the company has been effective in planning different strategies such as offering free
food, lectures from the global leaders to free gymnasiums (Forbes.com 2020). The companies

satisfied with the level of motivation which has been received by them. Google has now
become one of the famous companies for the non-traditional approach to the working
environment which is capable of promoting the work-life balance. The different benefits
include the on-site health care services which is inclusive of the access to the physician
immediately whenever it is needed by the different individuals along with physical therapist
(Forbes.com 2020).
On the other hand, different employees can be staying in shape through attending
exercise classes, utilising the community bikes or taking advantage of the free entry to the
different fitness centres. In addition, Google even throws different cool courses which include
the guitar classes or the different other programs related to coding can be beneficial for the
company in improving the performance of the company. As Google is one of the well-known
companies, it offers the employees with the better job prospects should they decide in leaving
Google plex. It tries in offering the different growth opportunities within the organization,
whether it is for the middle management or the higher-level management opportunities
(Giddens, Gonzalez and Leidner 2019).
From the analysis of the employee wellness programs of Google, it can be identified
that the company is effective as they care for their employees as they feel that they are the
core asset of the company. In addition, it has been noticed that Google employees can be
fuelling themselves throughout entire day at campus cafes as well as micro kitchens which
are stocked with the nutritious, colour coded meals along with snacks. According to the
different research studies, it has been found that there are different companies such as Apple,
wherein there are very less employee wellness programs which impacts their morale and they
leave their jobs quite often.

Moreover, the employees receive the different financial guidance whenever it is
required by them and all these are made available to the different employees with the flexible
working shifts which are offered to them. In Google, the employees are playing a crucial role
in achieving the target of the company and there are paid holidays and vacations which is a
good deal which is offered by Sundar Pichai (Forbes.com 2020). In the year 2013, Google
was capable of beginning with the project of Aristotle wherein the main focus of the project
was to improve the overall productivity of the workforce through finding recipe for the good
or comfortable working environment as well as the improved well-being at workplace.
It is well-known fact that Google is capable of working hard to achieve and provide
the employees with different kinds of benefits which are required by them. it helps the
employees in maintaining their productivity and performance at the peak. Upon finding the
different analytical data from the different employees, it can be seen that Google have been
capable of encompassing the all in one wellness programs for the employees as they treat
them the most vital part of their process. From the instance of Google’s wellness program for
employees, it can be seen that the wellness programs are of huge importance as it improves
the health behaviors of the employees successfully. With the right level of motivation
provided to employees, it will be capable of maintaining the healthy behaviours and it will be
becoming the biggest benefit of having the wellness programs successfully. Wellness impacts
the bottom line of the companies in a positive manner in many ways and in particular, it is
capable of lowering the health care costs and increase the level of productivity successfully.
In case of Google, the engagement of employees is the main element which is seen
and followed and it is positively correlated with the better health among the employees. 91%
of the employees in Google are happy and satisfied with the working environment. They feel
motivated to give their best in different aspects in the tasks which are being performed by
them in the company. Furthermore, due to the wellness program, Google have been capable

of tackling problem of turnover among employees successfully and thus, it is resulting in the
retention among employees.
The different employees working with the Google Company are capable of achieving
the different productive results as they are less prone to leave the jobs in the different
scenarios which can be impacting the workplace culture (Dailey and Zhu 2017). Although,
there are highly intelligent workers present at Google, there is no such rocket science which
goes in Google for offering one of the best working environments to their employees. Google
tries to simply treat the employees with proper respect and dignity as these are the two crucial
elements which will be making employees creative along with innovative.
Example of Amazon in Attempting for Employee Well-Being Initiatives
Earlier in the month of February, the CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos has been capable of
unveiling the most effective health and wellness program for their employees. The Seattle
based tech giant Amazon has been capable of including the perk which is the Amazon Care.
The respective program will be capable of creating virtual care offerings for the different
employees along with offering workplace or home visits from the different medical
professionals (CNBC.com 2020). The program tries in including the prescription delivery
which is highly efficient in nature.
Moreover, Amazon has been capable of acquiring the Health Navigator, which is
considered to be the medical technology start-up is the complete effort of the company to
bolster the health-care offerings for the different employees successfully. The respective
start-up will be wrapped in the clinic for the different workers which launched last month at

In addition, Amazon has been capable of offering the full-time employees with the
industry leading benefits that includes the comprehensive healthcare benefits from day one of
their joining. Due to the same, it makes the employees feel that they are the most vital part in
the company and make them highly efficient in the different operations of the company in a
successful manner (Burton et al. 2017). Moreover, the higher officials such as the CEO of the
company named Jeff Bezos has been planning ahead of the respective health policies which
are present in the current scenario as they feel that their main motive is to make the
employees feel that they are wanted and in order to make them satisfied, it is impacting the
performance of the company as a whole which includes the performance of the different
employees as a whole. The philosophy of Amazon has been straight which includes the fact
that due to the transformational leadership approach of Jeff Bezos, the company has been
able to receive high level of benefits which will be encompassing the different tasks and
make them perform at a high level of efficiency and the growth is managed thoroughly in the
respective manner (Allen, Lehmann-Willenbrock and Sands 2016).
It is not easy for all to work at the corporate culture of Amazon as it can be toxic for
some people. However, it does not mean that the company culture is tough, it means that the
company is offering few health benefits related policies and procedures which may not be
liked by all. As the employee well-being has become the trend in different sectors of the
workplace and the employees prefer to work in such an environment which will be delivering
them with utmost happiness and satisfaction to perform the tasks and achieve the high level
of outcomes (Ajunwa, Crawford and Ford 2016).
From the analysis of the instances of both the companies namely Google and
Amazon, it can be seen and analyzed that both the companies are trying their level best in
delivering the best to the employees which will be making them feel that they are the critical
part of the company. In case of Google, the company has been successful in delivering their

best as they are satisfied with the different healthcare policies and they feel that they are the
most important asset of the company. On the other hand, in Amazon, Jeff Bezos has been
successful in implementing the health care system in the recent manner which has been
helpful for them in delivering their best and achieve the successful outcomes within the
stipulated time frame (Abraham and White 2017).
Conclusion
Therefore, from the analysis of the different kinds of employee wellness programs
which have been introduced in the workplace, it can be inferred that health and well-being are
becoming quickly essential in the office as it is in the everyday lives of individuals. Many of
the different individuals are becoming highly concerned with the well-being as they feel that
they have the right to deserve the different kinds of benefits as they are the crucial part of the
process. However, in many companies, it has been noticed that they do not follow the
wellbeing procedures as they feel that there is extra cost incurred in the same.
On contrary, from the examples of the different companies such as Google or
Amazon, it can be analyzed that through incorporation of the health and safety procedures
and wellbeing of employees at workplace, it has become quite evident that the workplace
safety and health policies are of equal importance that of the productivity. It should be known
by the companies that employees are the integral part of the company and when they will be
satisfied with the working environment, it will be essential for them to implement the health
benefits to the employees for making them feel that they are important.
After the implementation of the wellness programs in the workplace, the next
challenge which is faced by the company is the success rate which is received by them. The
proper implementation of the robust HR management system which has the main focus on the
well-being, it is capable of tracking as well as using the data based with the well-being
