Context:
In the course of this subject the student will be responsible for bridging theory and practice while
undertaking a substantial body of work above and beyond their normal employment duties. The
student will be accountable to their industry supervisor who will contribute to the student’s
assessment by providing an evaluation in conjunction with the student.
Instructions:
In preparation for the supervisor evaluation, the student will:
negotiate a time to meet with their supervisor in which to undertake this evaluation;
prior to the meeting, have completed the evaluation form, giving themselves a rating and
providing comment on at least four competencies;
facilitate the supervisor’s completion of the supervisor’s section on the evaluation (it is not
compulsory for supervisors to provide comment); and
provide commentary for any differences in opinion.

5 After going through the module and my project about
the role of project management in Civil Engineering
projects, I believe that I now have strong competencies
in planning/organizing, tolerance of stress, and
controlling. My experience to review literature has
given me a better understanding how to determine
measures that could help achieve project goals.
Furthermore, I also understand how to prioritize these
measures as well as co-ordination of measures.
Projects require setting and meeting tight deadlines. I
now understand that in order to tolerate stress, I
should establish tight deadlines and meet them.

4 The successful completion of my project after reviewing
a number of literature, has given me a better
understanding of ways to manage teams. As a project
manager, I now understand that I should develop
qualities of managing people as well as leadership
qualities. Second, I should understand how to manage
performance through guidance. Third, I should be
sensitive to everyone involved in project management.
As a project manager, I will have the ability to motivate
everyone involved in implementation of a project. This
will help me make the teamwork together to achieve a
common goal and achieve co-operation among different
teams. For instance, my leadership qualities can allow
me to offer professional support as well as
understanding on how to delegate different
responsibilities among members.
Management of performance can only come through
qualities of customer orientation. I can combine several
disciplines in order to come up with the best solution.
While on the other hand, my sensitivity to people
provides me with the best opportunity to acknowledge
and appreciate that everyone has different interests,
strengths and problems. This will require that I treat
everyone fairly. Furthermore, I can encourage those
coming from different cultural backgrounds.
