INTRODUCTION
Employment relation can be defined as legal connection between workers and employers
within a company. It exists when an individual work and perform under some organizational
situations in return for remuneration. It is created and managed effectively when an employer
and worker agree on work or certain things to be worked that act is performed under guidance,
supervision and control of experienced person. Employment relationship is consider as important
point of references for identifying nature and degree of employer obligations & rights towards
their staff members. Managing employee relation for an organization while operate in specific
sector is not easy task as it require a lot of efforts and hard work. The current assignment will be
based on TESCO, which falls under category of leading supermarket chains in the United
Kingdom. It successfully operate in retail industry with effective and productive workforce who
can perform and work for gaining further benefits and achieving set objectives of supermarket.
This study will explain legal & practical challenges that chosen firm experience in managing
above concept within its contemporary workplace. Furthermore, it will justify possible and
relevant suggestions in context of employment relation problems.

quality products and services to customers. It has excellent reputation in market for low prices,
value and for being consumer focused. Its associations and brand equity have supported firm to
enlarge or expand venture into profitable markets and industries. It has operated in several
nations and performed with number of workers. While operating business and managing
operations at national and international level, firm can experience practical & legal challenges in
context of managing employment relationship within its contemporary workplace. It is quite
common because each firm in the world of business experience same. Some challenges are
mention below-
Conflict management-
Employment relationship is just not a concept, it refers to a company’s attempts to
develop and maintain a positive relation with staffs. While managing current business and
management functions, TESCO and its human resource management can experience ranges of

applicant can refer to it when she or he feel confused. This challenge occurs over differences and
disagreements between management and staff opinion and point of views which is quite normal

relationship within company successfully and effectively. Furthermore, it can be said that
conflict between top authority and workers arise because of several reasons bring challenge for
supermarket in term of conflict management which is impossible as it needs usage of effective
approaches and strategies. It is among the most vexing and common issues could managers in
TESCO contemporary workplace face. It impact negatively upon overall performance and
productivity of chosen supermarket as well as behaviour and morale of worker. There are
different forms of methods and strategies are available in the business world that company could
use to overcome this challenge, which bring a lot of benefits for venture and its growth.
Poor collaboration and communication-
Employment relationship defines as staffs and employer relation in informal & formal
nature that arises between authority and workers interaction in all working environment. While
managing this term, TESCO manager can face another challenge along with above one and that
is managing effective communication and collaboration. It is quite tough to manage these things

Effective relationship between workers and their employers as well as management need
transparency and good understanding that help to identify needs and expectations of staffs.

of the areas where candidates seek change as it boost his or her morale and productive nature
which is quite beneficial for supermarket in term of gaining competitive advantages by working
even better. But it can also consider in list of reason behind challenge when management could
not understand this need. Manager face challenge because of not managing wage and hours
problems at workplace that can decrease sale and increase high employee turnover. It can be
analysed that staffs in every company tend to scrutinize holiday pay and overtime payments
where they could and they must, & human resource department should be ready for all kinds of
queries, which is good employee relations. But when management could not be ready for it and
then he or she face challenge that is really not good for brand reputation and position within
retail sector. Wages and hours management is a challenging act which increase work pressure on
manager and give negative experience to them in regard to managing employment relationship.

upon employer and employee relationship as it needs to resolve as soon as possible by

Training and development are also the practical and legal challenge which is faced by

for employee then ait is affected to company in negative manner. This creates challenge for
company to solve the problems of employees. In respect to that management need to organize
proper training session through that employee can learn about the process of work which is help
to get better result of work in effective manner. This is the practical and legal challenges which
can by Tesco experience in managing employment relationship within the company. Most of the
favouritism is happens at workplace in that management give training to their favourite
employees. This creates conflicts between employees. In that management need to provide
effective work control on business and their aspects. These challenges create negative impact on
the business because through that employee are not able to give their hard efforts for achieving
goals and objectives of company in effective manner.
Equality and diversity:
This is another practical and legal challenges which is faced by Tesco at the working
place. Most of the time company done the misbehave with employee’s ion that management
have need to work on providing equality to their employees per religions, colour and people. In
that management need to provide equal opportunity to all the employees for work in better
manner. This creates great and effective opportunity to business in order to get positive effect.
