EMPLOYMENT TRENDS 2
Your overall reactions to the employment trends you’ve read about
Currently, unemployment is considered to be at a 25-year high, and researchers anticipate that
work will eventually return (Claire & Kathy, 2009). With increased technological advancement,
employment trends are varying. I have learned that high tech comes with high tough and high
growth measures to growth of a company’s human resource. It is important for people to keep
phase with tech needs that are influencing business operations. For instance, managers are
trained on the right means to behave as they interact with employees. The way we will be
working in the next decade will be totally different due to the technological evolution and growth
that is taking place in the labor sector.
The trend that surprises or concerns you most and why
The trends that surprise and concern me most include globalization, increased diversity, women
in leadership, search for the next park, technology and career growth, and others. In (Rusty,
2019) article, “Globalization’s Impact on the Labor Market”, ‘globalization is considered as an
engine of social change, helping in poverty eradication, and reducing child labor to raise
literacy’. Also, I am surprised with the increased number of women in leadership, an aspect
which was not advocated for in the past due to social-cultural norms and beliefs. In addition, the
trend of search for a higher park by employees concerns me most; this is because nearly all
workers are focused to earning more and growing their careers.
The trend you are most curious about and/or would like to understand more- and why
Out of these employment trends, I am most curious and eager to understand the “women will rule
business” trend (Claire & Kathy, 2009). This trend is interesting in that it brings in the aspect of

work-life balance and employee diversity in the labor sector. In addressing the future of work,
women are considered to rise, and their rise to top leadership positions has undoubtedly begun.
In the past, gender diversity was not witnessed in the workplace, but this has changed today.
According to (Claire & Kathy, 2009), most women in top management are even being more
productive than men, by more than one third. In the same article though, women are considered
to be less competitive but as per (Claire & Kathy, 2009), argument, women will rapidly grow in
the chain of command, and their emotional-intelligence skills would become more essential.
The trends that seem most applicable & the trends that seem least applicable to (will have the
most or least impact on) your own work or career and why
The most applicable trends in my work and career are search for higher perks, high tech and high
career growth, women in leadership, and globalization. The least applicable trends in my work
and career are training managers on the ways to behave and the way people will work. In (John,
2009) article “The Search for the Next Perk’ in The Future of Work Journal states that
companies initiated many of these benefits in a different time,’ and ‘Retiree benefits started
being offered when many companies had a young workforce with few retirees, ….. Cost they had
to deal with.’ Also with the advanced effect of technology in the labor world, I consider this
trend applicable in my career since I will not be competitive without technological skills.
Training managers to behave and the manner in which people will work is least applicable
because these are covered by the other trends, and for one to become a manager, he or she must
have the skills, qualifications, and competence.
A question about the relationship between these trends and your career that you'd like your
fellow students' thoughts on

EMPLOYMENT TRENDS 4
As explained in the above parts, employment trends have a great impact on my work and career.
This reflection has made learn the importance of technology, diversity, and next perks to
improving employee’s productivity and performance in the workplace (John, 2009). I would like
my fellow students to read these articles and reflect on several questions. But, the most important
question that I would like them to think about is:
What is the relationship between the searches for the next perk to work productivity?
Any other reactions that you have to the readings
We are in a world where technology is the controller of everything. Every employee must
endeavor to acquire the desired technological skills in order to become competitive in the
workplace and in the labor market (John, 2009). Important to note, employees outside the aged
career model, who have “boundary-less careers” are have become the norm rather than
exception. In the next decade, it will be very difficult for a person to get an employment without
technological knowledge. As per the readings, we can conclude that all people want to growth
professionally and that diversity in the workplace is an aspect that all employers must adopt to
improve competitiveness in the market.
