A Comprehensive Report: EMR Impact on Healthcare Research Activities

This report analyzes the impact of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) on research activities, specifically within the context of Uganda's healthcare system and the ISS clinic. The impact of EMR on research activities and relevant
evidence
Results
The national blue forms introduced by the
government had significantly greater
response advantage over the conventional
form created by the hospital organization. A
data entry clerk was hired to enter the
information into the databases to be used
for future purposes. The small checklists in
the questionnaire have been greatly
appreciated by reducing the time of the
patients in filling up the forms with their
responses. The patients have been
welcoming to the new system as it reduces
the time-consuming process that was paper
records. The opinions have been recorded
with an interest to critically analyse them.
Majority of the patients have wanted to
change the system if paper records since a
long time and this change has been much
appreciated by them.
Conclusion
In concluding remarks, it can be said that
Electronic Medical Records have been
creating furore in the domain of healthcare
since it was first introduced in the market.
There is an improvement in the quality of
care that is being provided to the patients
with an increased satisfaction among them.
The recording of the medical records and
history electronically has been beneficial for
the patient community when compared to
its paper record counterpart. The
questionnaire that was handed over to the
patients is constructed in such a way that it
is worthy of the time of the patient. Their
responses are recorded and a conclusion is
drawn.
Methods
The general population of
the study were the health
practitioners, nursing
professionals and the
patients on whom the EMR
has been implemented. A
questionnaire was
designed to make the
patients fill in the form
which acted as feedback of
the idea. The patient has
been brought to the
hospital for treatment
whose medical records are
to be tabulated in
electronic form to save
time. The questions were
simple for making the
family of the patient
understand the relevance
and fill it for their
necessary opinion. It was
on the basis of the
response gathered, which
helped in reaching a
conclusion of the research
question. Each of the
responses that have been
filled by the patient has
been recorded to make it
easier to understand the
impact of the new system
in the healthcare sector.
Introduction
The paper records that have been a part
of the healthcare system since the start
of the world are replaced by the onset of
electronic medical records. It was
observed before that the nursing
professionals would take notes of the
medical history in addition to the social
and cultural demographic factors of the
patient to keep it in the records. The
present scenario has been to incorporate
the information relating to the patient in
an electronic form to make it easier for
the healthcare professionals to retrieve it
for future usage. The execution of EMR in
the healthcare system has been
significantly reducing the errors in
tabulating the patient data, improving
the coordination required to provide
quality care and reducing the cost of the
medical care.
Abstract
The poster will revolve around the
identification of the impact of EMR on
the research activities that are to be
conducted in Uganda. The ISS clinic is
incorporating the usage of electronic
medical records over paper records.
Recently the government has been
planning to implement strategies to
incorporate the usage of electronic
medical records into the healthcare
system. A questionnaire was provided
to the patients from the organization
as well as the government to fill in
their valuable opinion on the
implementation of electronic medical
records. The form provided by the
government had a better advantage
over the conventional form of the
organization. There is a dire need to
understand the impact of EMR on
research activities. It was found that
computer literacy have been
significantly lower in educators who
have been a key player in the
implementation program of the EMR.
