AI Summary
This report on Australian Engineering Practice delves into key aspects of the field, addressing the roles and responsibilities of engineers, emphasizing the importance of planning, design, and organization for efficient product delivery, and the need for continuous support within development teams. It explores sustainability in engineering, defining it as designing systems that sustainably use resources to meet the needs of the present without compromising future generations, and proposes strategies like implementing timelines and resource charts to improve the process. The report also examines ethical conflicts, highlighting the significance of moral values such as honesty and self-integrity in engineering, and discusses ways to manage information and documentation effectively, including the implementation of centralized information systems and version control to overcome teamwork challenges. The document includes examples of effective and unprofessional communication and references various sources such as books and journals to support the arguments.

Roles and responsibilities:
According to me it becomes important to follow some rules by engineer’s o that the products
can be delivered efficiently. The engineers needs to include proper planning, designing and organizing
the products for proper outcome. The engineer needs to provide continuous support towards the
developing team and needs to address the problems well so that the risks can be mitigated at earl
stages. From the book Trevelyan we have found that it becomes important for every engineer to
address the problems faced by other employees and resolve the problems (Trevelyan 2014). There is a
need to have a routine maintenance so that the outputs can be addressed properly. The engineer needs
to address the complaints and should provide an instant service to the customers. Corrective actions
are needed to be implemented and proper management support is needed for developing a project
within budget. It is the responsibility of engineers to give proper guidance towards the employees.
Apart from all this the engineer should be aware of the materials used so that the safety can be
ensured. Proper energy conservation strategies are required for developing an effective project. In the
book Trevelyan I have learnt that it becomes important to manage the financial processes need proper
human resources development and training and buying of products useful for the development
process.
Sustainability in engineering
Sustainable engineering is the process of designing a system that will use resources
sustainably. That is the system will be created at a rate in which it will not compromise with the need
of future generation for meeting their own needs (Remmers and Nagel 2015). The common focus of
engineering includes water supply, energy development, industrial processing, cleaning up polluted
sites, planning projects to reduce environmental impacts and many more. The engineering process can
be improved by using only that much resources that are needed. The engineers will use only the
required resources, this will ensure that the product used is in sufficient amount and will also save the
resources for future. This way a better sustainable solution can be achieved. For example:

implementing a proper timeline with a resource chart will help the engineers to understand the
requirements clearly. Once the requirement is clear the engineer can acquire the resources accordingly
(Staniškis and Katiliūtė 2016). According to me each and every engineer should be responsible
enough so that they can understand the importance of sustainability in engineering. Sustainability in
engineering will be helpful and will help to develop a better future.
Ways to deal ethical conflict
According to me it is important to have proper moral values that will help engineers to
succeed in their work field. Values are referred to determine the act whether it is right or not. Every
individual possess some behaviour and follows a certain value. It becomes important to follow proper
moral values that will enhance the works in future. The main values that every engineer should poses
are honesty and self-integrity. Under no pressure they should perform any activity that is ethically
incorrect or will harm anyone. Every engineer should do justice towards other employees and towards
the project. This will help the engineer to deliver a self-satisfactory project. The engineers should
maintain proper relation with other employee and should resolve the ethical problems as soon as
possible. Each employee should respect other employee’s property and should not touch them without
their permission. According to me integrating ethical values within an individual will lead to creation
of better workplace. The values are loyalty, fairness concern towards other individual, respecting
everyone’s decision, trustworthy, law abiding (Kallusky et al. 2018). For example: if an engineer
follow this ethical values, he will be awarded with loyal employee tag and this are very much
beneficial at the time promotion. Organization will like too have engineers with proper values and
knowledge of ethics.
Managing information and documentation
It becomes important to have proper communication among the team members and every
member should use the latest version of document. There are several challenges faced while working

with a large team and it becomes important to overcome this challenges (Austin and Pinkleton 2015).
In order to manage proper sharing of information our team has implemented a centralized information
system. This helps to store information properly and also prevents information loss. Apart from this
the IT department has ensured that each member are using the recent document version. IT
department has given the responsibility to organize each members system and install the necessary
requirement. Our team members are asked to give proper feedback on the version of document they
are using. This ensures that each member are using the recent versions and are able to manage the
information properly. The major challenge faced by our team while using the documents includes
having a proper version control over the reports and drawings. It is important for each team member
to have a proper control over the reports and the facts used or developing the reports (Comm and
Mathaisel 2015). Several features are included in the new document version which will make it easier
for user to access and will help in managing the information properly.
Effective communication:
Example of an effective email:
From: manager
To: Mr Smith
Subject: Appraisal of Mr Smith
Dear Smith,
This is to inform you that you are being appreciated for the hard work you did to bring our
organization on top. In return to your dedication the management team and association has decided to
promote you to assistant manager. This will help you to grow in your field and also will be beneficial
for our organization. We are happy and privileged to have employee like you.
Thanks and Regards
Mr Richard
(Manager)

In this example, the manager has formally explained the reason behind promotion and also the
post. This will help the promoted person to understand the details clearly. Thus, it is an effective way
of communication and will maintain the professionalism among the employee.
For example: an email with unprofessional attitude
From: manager
To: Mr Smith
Subject: Appraisal of Mr Smith
Dear Smith,
This is to inform you that, you have been promoted to assistant manager. Hope you will work
with us and will serve better with time.
Mr Richard
(Manager)
This example shows that the communication is unprofessional and also not clear. Everyone
should be praised for their hard work correctly so that they get motivated. This email was
unprofessional and disappointing.
