This study by Taebi and Mayer (2017), has focused on the nuclear safety goevrenance. It
reefers to the need for having more rebust regilations in terms of internaltional
verifivacation and serveilalnce. The reason relates to the worldwideb dispardal of the nucler
reactor and the incearse of nuclear energy production to meet the demand. The ian cocern in
this reghatd ois the safety of handly his type of sensitive process of energy production in the
less experienced countries. Hence there are huge colaborayoon qamong the interntauonal
agencies along with multilateral colabotation to secure the fact that the nucler wastes are
being disposed prloperly. Thereforem the study recomedens that enforment and monitoring
of the nucleur safety is needed. Moreober the public pressure for meeting the energy demand

Engineering & System Safety, 157, 139-151.
Annotation - summarise, evaluate and reflect (150 words)
This study has presented the assessment of safety criticality of the production system of global
energy. In this study, based in the majority rule setting method, an empirical classification model
has been developed so that the evaluation of criticality of the system of interest can be done in
respect to safety. This model is built on the basis of the characteristics of the number of plants
and there criticality. As a result, two issues have been found in the nuclear power plants. The
first one is the contradictions of the classification examples regarding the consistency of
considered dataset thus required. Secondly there are some uncertainties which are affecting
the process of quantitative assessment of performance. This study has been infringed
through inaccuracy and confidence issues. This this particular paper, the solution has been
found to manage these two issues which include the process of implementing the bootstrap
approach, model retrieval based approach and cross validation method.
Working towards a research essay: key elements of writing
Introduction
150-200 words
(without the thesis
statement) This paper aims to discuss the methods of meeting the growing energy
demands safely and efficiently. This this regard it can ne stated that till
one point of time, the developed countries only used the most of the
global natural resources. After the wave of industrialization and
development of the countries after the world wars, the energy
consumption has increased sharply. Initially the developed counties
used the natural resources of power generation mostly by depriving
the developing or the underdeveloped countries. Now the demand of
energy has been increased as many of the companies are entering the
markets of different parts of the world. This industrialization has
increased the demand of power but this is relating to the infringement
of the public life. This paper will be discussing the use of renewable
energy to meet the demand of the energy all over the world and how

this can lead to a question of safety.
Thesis statement
(25 to 40 words) The renewable energy like solar and wind energy sources or plant as
expensive to construct has been nullified the possibility to meet the
huge demand of the global population, dependence on the nuclear
energy has been increased but this can question the safety and
efficiency.
Topic sentence 1
(25 to 40 words) There are several criticality of the energy production plants which
leads to incased demand for public and government monitoring and
assessment.
Topic sentence 2
(25 to 40 words) Nuclear power plants can undergo some issues of accidents due to
tsunami or earthquake or human fault which threatens the safety of
the human society as well as the environment.
Topic sentence 3
(25 to 40 words)
The BRICS countries have been making themselves efficient in energy
production so that the emerging markets where the companies are
aiming to enter may not suffer from energy depletion
Topic sentence 4
(25 to 40 words) With energy efficacy there comes the responsibilities to take care of
the maintenance of the power plants so that the accidents may not
occur.
(Optional)
Topic sentence 5
(25 to 40 words)
The transparency of the regulations regarding safety measures of the
power plants can reduce the public pressure on the agencies and also
reduce the negative impact
Body paragraph
Develop any one of
the above topic
sentences into a
complete
paragraph
(150-250 words)
Nuclear power plants can be one of the most essential method of
developing energy efficiency around the globe. Nuclear power can
meet the energy demand of the population greatly and caret no
negative effect on the environment. However, there are problems like
mutilation of the plants, accidents due to natural calamities can have a
far reaching effect on the natural and human environment. This may
lead to immediate devastation which lasts long in the environment,
killing the people near it as well as poisoning the aquatic or terrestrial

animals. The effect of nuclear accident can have effect on the
generations leading to suffer from acute health issues. For example,
the nuclear accident of Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima of 2011 can
be burning example of nuclear accident from the power plants.
Therefore, in meeting the global demand for energy the
unconventional energy development is necessary but if it is somehow
related to the energy production like that of nuclear one, extra
initiatives on the part of the government need to be taken. In addition
to this, the regulations relating to the maintenance of safety regarding
the power production through transparency to the public agencies are
also needed so that the surveillance and monitoring can be easy to
provide.

(Optional) Complete this checklist before submitting your assignment. Answer Yes or No to each point.
Adapted from https://www.monash.edu/rlo/research-writing-assignments/writing/editing-and-proofreading/editing-and-proofreading
Proofreading (formatting, referencing) Yes No Comments
Formatting
Have you used font size 12 and used 1.5 spacing between lines?
Have you set your margins to ‘normal’ (2.54 cms left and right)?
Referencing information
Are all facts, figures and ideas gathered from your sources referenced in-text and
end-text (in the list of references)?
Are all reference details complete (surname and year of publication, etc)?
Are all references consistently presented in the required style (e.g. APA, Chicago,
etc.)?
Proofreading (grammar, spelling) Examples and comments
Subject-verb agreement Yes No
Do subjects and their verbs agree in number,
particularly when a long or complex subject
precedes the main verb?
Incorrect
The lecturer, as well as some of the tutors, are
planning a test.
Correct
The lecturer, as well as some of the tutors, is
planning a test.
Tenses
Are your verb tenses consistent?
Is there a logical reason for you to change the
tense?
The present tense is used for stating main points,
stating a scientific fact, reporting the position of a
writer, and for making your own statements.
The past tense is used to report or describe the
contents, findings or conclusions of past research or
events. Using past simple would suggest that a
writer’s research is not currently accepted.
Sentence fragments
Have you used complete sentences? Sentence fragments lack a subject, a verb or both. A
dependent clause on its own is also an incomplete
sentence.
Run-on sentences
Have you divided sentences into two by using
either a full stop or a semi colon?
Incorrect
We can see changes but not learning itself, the
concept is theoretical and hence not directly
observable.
Correct
We can see changes but not learning itself; the
concept is theoretical and hence not directly
observable.
Articles (a/an/the/zero article)
Is the noun countable or uncountable, specific
or general?
Does the noun require an article, and if so,
which one?
Normally, uncountable nouns cannot be pluralised
in English: e.g. information, evidence, advice,
knowledge, public.
A specific countable noun normally requires ‘the’,
while a non-specific one (one of many, not a
particular one) would take ‘a’.
Correct
In Australia, a bill can only become a new law if it is
passed by a majority vote in the House of
Representatives and the Senate.
Parallel structures
Are components of your sentence
grammatically equal? Are elements of your
sentence, lists for example, made up of the same
kinds of structures?
Incorrect
The following actions were taken: advertising the
product, improve quality control and bring the retail
price down.

Logical connectors
Have you over-used or under-used linking
words?
Do they provide clear links between sentences
and paragraphs?
For example, however, although, thus, as a result of,
in comparison are some common linking words.
Pronouns
Do pronouns refer clearly to an antecedent? If you leave the book on the table, you can take it after
the class. Does the it refer to the table or the book?
Punctuation
Have you used apostrophes correctly? Apostrophes show possession. For example: The
company’s after-tax profit fell in the second quarter
of 2006.
Contractions like it’s and won’t are rarely used in
academic writing.
Spelling and capitalisation
Have you spelt the same word in the same
(correct) way throughout? E.g. targeted,
operationalise, honour.
Have you used capital letters consistently?
Use the spellcheck on your computer, but be
warned: it will not find everything, and it will give
you American spelling unless you set it to UK or
