Assignment Overview
For this first assignment in your Essay Development Project, you will choose a topic and demonstrate
a prewriting technique with your audience in mind. This is the first step you will take to complete your
final polished essay in the last week of the course. The Five-Paragraph Essay Overview describes
how each of the weekly assignments leads up to your final essay. Review it, so that you can plan your
time throughout this course accordingly.
This assignment is intended to provide practice writing using proper grammar, punctuation and
spelling. You will also explore various writing techniques, including pre-writing, audience analysis, and
diction. Taken together, these skills will inform your knowledge of the steps in the writing process.

As you work on your pre-write, consider your approach to your essay, who is your audience?
Note: Avoid a simple response such as “everyone.” You would want to choose a response that
is well-thought out, such as, “My audience is kids who are ages 5–8 years and who have never

Write a paragraph to address all of the following questions (at minimum: 5-7 sentences) while

ALTERNATIVE ENERCY OPTIONS
Free-Writing
Alternative energy means any source of energy that does not use fossil fuels (Stojčetović, Nikolić,
Živković & Bogdanović, 2019). It is true that there are a few things we may do to prevent our earth from
deteriorating (Tetiana, Inna, Walery, Olga & Svetlana, 2018). We should have individuals willing to protect the
surrounding environment. I have heard many people saying that there remains no hope because humans have
aready did to much things that damage the earth surface. There are chemical created by machines that make
things for our Universe. We have made the use of machines since it make the work easier. Occasionally, these
machines cause sickness or disease to the individuals who work with as well as around them. mybe people
could create machines that did the task for us but we remain healthier after we have used them. I have at all
times liked the notion of living off the land. You know, possessing cattle as well as a garden with healthy food.
To me, I gree, it would be difficult to adjust. Recycling remains one of the major factors that support us in
keeping Earth healthy. So, numerous things can be recycled such as glass, plastic, as well as certain metals
(Kaur, Foong, & Jawaid, 2017). The main problem is that many people do not take part in recycling process. It
is extremely nice that our government has offered certain methods to recycle by having our newspaper,glass,
plastic as well as grass clippins picked up from the homestead. Also, there are ways to assist like using thigs like
solar powered. I have seen many houses over the past years buying solar panels for use at home to assis them
lower electricity use. I am not so sure how effective is the use of solar panel. I am so sure that there are many
vehicles that use solar panel as additional power backup. My step sister works on a wind farm. Last year she
was working in Canada, and she told us that many sites were extremely large open space with numerous
windmills. Seemingly, the use of wind mill to generate electricity has been a big hit in most countries. There
remain many of these wind farms in United States. I think she said they approximately two hundred ft tall, not
so sure. I think the use of alternative energy options is one of the best way we can conserve the surrounding
environment. Also, the use of candles as light and conserving the amount of water can also make us conserve

the surrounding environment. Sharing and talking to neighbors so that we remain not wasting the necessary
resources is one of the best strategy that can help us protect the surround environment.
Part II: Audience Analysis and Diction
My audience would be adults between the age of 25 to 50 years old. I would try to target 2 different
social classes. The two classes would be middle class and working class.This subject remains largely impacted
on what adults may do to use alternative energy options. I would mainly target adult readers in US that have
children and a spouse. My approach would be personal and informative. I would be capable of knowing how
certain things affect them because they have a family just like me. I shall approach a technical concept by
ensuring that I use proper grammer as well as utilizing Smartthinking. Resources from the library of my school
shall help me to approach complex concepts while writing the essay. Some of the formal characteristic I shall
use include: to be clear as well as concise, write in present tense and use of 3rd person while speaking. Also, my
writing shall be informative to all the audience.
