internship period. During the same period, I was allowed to develop the liaising with the oil
and gas companies including such as ExxonMobil, EnQuest, Petrofac and many more in
regard to the equipment that the department was looking after. I worked at Deleum from 26th
November 2018 to 15th February 2019 for a total of 60 days.

2.1 Knowledge and Skill Base
2.1.1 Comprehensive, theory-based understanding of the underpinning natural and physical
sciences and the engineering fundamentals applicable to the engineering discipline.
I was doing my intern as the Petroleum Engineer at the Deleum Berhad where I
applied my engineering knowledge and skills in manner to take the best-suited decision-
makings. I practiced my knowledge and experience within the industry that embraced my
existing experience and also allowed me in gaining better understanding of the operations and
functioning of the oil and gas industry. My role was to convince oil companies that Deleum
Berhad is the best provider of wide range of the supporting specialized services and products
to the oil and gas industry. Therefore, before I convince other companies to take our contract,
first I need to learn all the tools that my company provides which also includes the size and
function of each tool, the type of packages and the man power. Since I have completed
Petroleum Economics, Petroleum Design Project and Drilling Operation courses, this work
was quite similar to what I have learned. It was easy for me to understand and apply the
correct engineering principles. I have to research and learn the Oil Cycle, the Production
Sharing Contract (PSC) in Malaysia under PETRONAS, block and fields that have been
developed by which oil company and many more.

I was also responsible for the inventory management at the Deleum Berhard during
my internship and I had to make sure that the equipment and the tools being delivered or
returned are of the same quantity and there is not any misleading in the inventory. I made
sure throughout my internship that the preventative maintenance on the slickline equipment
have been carried out. I carried out two types of the operations for the management and
maintenance of the inventory that includes Non-Routine Operations and Routine Operations.
Routine Operations includes Tubing Clearance Check (TCC), Tubing Integrity Test (TIT),
Zone Change and many more whereas Non-Routine Operations includes Install Tubing Pack
off, Production Logging (MPLT) /Multi-finger Imaging Tool (MIT) and
workover/completion/well test. Moreover, my job includes estimating the cost based on the
packages and the number of units. The cost depends whether it’s a delicate slickline package
or call out slickline package which depends on the time period and also manpower services.
In addition to the above knowledge experiences, I developed well-schematic using the

plan or there are the possibilities of certain complexities. It was a modelling software that
could support the accurate prediction and analysis of the cumulative forces throughout every
stage of the wireline, coiled tubing, jointed or slickline pipe job. In some of the cases, the
error can be minimized or removed by using different tools or different size of the same tools
and in other cases, the well schematic has to be repeated with different equipment.

all my colleagues and also my clients. I always act on the basis of a well-informed conscience
and obey the company rule such as always wear covered shoes when coming to the office,
not using phone while walking or climbing the stairs, formal attire and etc. As an engineer, I
focus on ways to improve myself to be a better person, developing my skills and upholding
the reputation of the engineering practice. I am confident in my skills however I am not afraid
to ask questions when required. I am a person who likes to learn new skills. Each day at work
I learn something new about the company and my engineering field either through
observation or through some form of interaction. This was a fundamental method of learning
as I able to catch a lot of knowledge that enables me to work more effectively and improve
my engineering skills. By meeting and interacting with my clients and suppliers from
different oil and gas companies helped to improve my confidence level and my
communication skills.
2.3.2 Effective written and oral communication in the lay and professional domains
My internship required me to have a high level of interpersonal and communication
skills. I had to give a presentation of the work that I have completed to my supervisor almost
every week. I also need to communicate with other clients regarding the oil services and
packages. It was a huge opportunity for me to improve my presentation skills and my
confidence level to speak in front of my clients and supervisor. I have also learned how to
deal with a wide variety of people and address each situation in a manner suited to that
particular scenario. Besides that, I able to improve my Malay language skills as most clients
speak in Malaysian language. It was one of the major challenges that I had to face as I had
difficulty in communicating in their language. I adjusted my presentation to suit the wider
audience. During my presentations, I will present my work in English and then highlight
some of the key points in Malay so that all of us are in the same page. As days passed by, I
able to communicate better in their language and bond with the people I work with. During

meetings, my supervisor will take me along to learn other information about the company
such as Health, Safety and Environment plan, company finance related issues, contract and
tender agreements, and many more.
I was appraised by everyone of making a better relationship with the team members as
I was well connected to every individual of the team. I used to have group meeting with
everyone and had a better relationship with every individual within the project premises and
outside of the project premises. I had certain difficulties in the language however; it was not a
barrier in making better relationship with the individuals. I was a better information collector
and distributor with a better and emphasizing communication skills. I made sure that the
syllabus is completed within the specified timeline and every course is completed within that
through approaching both the interns and the supervisor. I used to take the follow up of the
plan suggested by the professor and made sure that every individual in the team of the
internship is on the track as per the plan. Due to certain causes, if any individual lags behind
the schedule, I used to spend my extra time in making sure that he gained all the related
information that was not introduced to him. I established a group of the interns who could
help others if anyone is not understanding the facts that was alternatively a better approach of
saving time and assuring the timeline of the internship. One side, I played a better leader
among the team and other side, I also played a better team mate under the supervision of the
operational manager.
3. Reflection and Conclusion
Finally, the enthusiastic experience can be concluded as I successfully completed my
internship Deleum as my first professional job. It was a great experience and better field
where I embraced my existing engineering knowledge and leadership attributes those are
definitely going to help me in my professional and personal life. I contributed myself in

assuring that the internship is of worth some values and I could possibly, embrace my future
in contributing to the Australian engineering sector through good deeds. So, I felt really lucky
to have Deleum as my first job experience. I was not aware of the challenges that I would be
facing after stepping my foot into the professional world. For me, the job was overwhelming,
but I did my level best to develop the value for the organization of which I was associated in
addition to my professional development. This opportunity had taught me how to apply the
information and knowledge that I have learned at the University transfers over to the
workplace.
Other than the practical knowledge and experience, I also get to know that managing
a team is highly complex system than just speaking of team management. I managed to
develop better learning and environment adaptability for assuring that the team members with
whom I am working can have reliability on me. I made sure that everyone listens to me
through informing all the small points and objectives to them. Besides that, another major
aspect of my training was teamwork and communication with my colleague. I always had
trouble communicating and making friends as I always been a less spoken person since
young. After working in this environment, I am able to appreciate how engineers work
together to achieve a common goal. I learned a lot about professional communication, how to
discuss as a team and compromise when conflicting ideas or opinions arises. I learnt how to
cope up with these certain problems and make sure that every course of action meets the
ethical aspects of the engineers Australia. I always followed the Codes of Ethics of Engineers
Australia throughout the internship in manner to make sure that every decision being made is
better for every individual involved in that internship. But at the end of the day, decision will
be made as a team. From this journey, I have learnt how to be more out spoken, confident,
independent, team player and many more.
