ENGINEERING, EDUCATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT
A new program in Partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada is taking on
board, five students from the first year of engineering, from a British Columbia University,
for a four month long internship at an engineering firm focused on sustainability and the
environment as a whole. The participating students will earn a $10,000 scholarship post
competition.
The Engineers and Geologists at British Columbia believe that the future of these sectors
depends on present students, hence, the focus will be on sustainability to preserve the needs
of the present without compromising the needs of the future. Catherine McKenna, Honorable
Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Canada, has stated that, “The Government
of Canada is pleased to be supporting this program for young Canadians. Students are
tomorrow’s leaders and have much to contribute to the welfare of Canada and the
environment.”
This program is being funded by both Environment and Climate Change Canada along with
Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Internships begins May 2020 and the
applications are due January1, 2020. Applicants must also submit transcripts from their fall
term in the University, 2018 and a 500 word essay entitled “Why I want to become an
environmental engineer in British Columbia.” They will be selected by representatives of
engineering firms under British Columbia.
