AI Summary
This is a reflective journal of an engineering student. It covers various aspects of professional development, including the role of an engineer, essential skills, the importance of collaboration, ethical considerations, and career aspirations. The student reflects on their understanding of engineering disciplines, the value they bring to an organization, and the skills they need to develop further, such as leadership. The journal also explores the significance of ethical codes in the workplace, personal values, and the job-seeking process. Desklib provides access to this and other solved assignments to aid students in their academic journey.

Task 1:
Engineering is the branch of science that deals with the building, designing and the uses
of engines, structures and different machines (Sempolinski et al. 2015). It is also referred to as
the action or application of different scientific knowledge for solving the problems prevailing in
the real world. The primary role of the engineers is to continue reshaping things as according to
the new and updated challenges and requirements that are implicated by the specialised
disciplines on specific areas of technology. As an engineer, I expect to invent, build, design,
analyse and test the systems and machines, different structures and the materials for fulfilling the
requirements and objectives. While doing my duties I need to consider limitations that are
imposed by the safety, practicality, cost and regulation and this is what I have also learnt at my
university. As an engineer, I would integrate the scientific principles along with practically
oriented research.
Task 2:
I used to think that Robotics would be in highest demand in the future but this view of
mine has changed as I got to know that each and every discipline of engineering is important in
its own aspect. As an engineer in Australia, I would confer with the engineers as well as the other
personnel for implementing the operating processes, resolving system malfunctions and would
be providing technical information. I think I need to have the skills of analytical thinking and
team working. The value that I add in an engineering organisation is that of being accountable
and utilising all the training which would be available to me.
Task 3-
An expert is a person who is skilful and knowledgeable in a specific area, for example an
expert or specialist in health care (Soyez 2018). The time needed to become an expert depends

on the topic or the field itself. For example, for becoming an expert in paper origami takes lesser
time than becoming an expert in quantum mechanics. A person does that by learning by
focusing, studying and analysing a particular field and by learning from his own experience.
Task 7-
Collaboration refers to the practice of working together in order to produce or achieve a
particular goal (Montiel-Overall 2016). It is more or less same like the concept of cooperation. It
allows the individuals for working together in order to achieve a common business goal or
purpose. The skills that are easy for me is communicating well with my peer members. I am still
developing the skill of tolerance. Collaboration is important to team project as it provides a value
in team working and provides each member with equal chance and opportunities (Hu and Liden
2015). Working as a team worked well for me. The lack of proper resources made me frustrated.
Task 10-
The process of collaboration in the workplace is extremely effective for positive
outcome. The key skills for the process of collaboration are skills of effective communication,
listening to the ideas of team members, conflict resolution and persuading the team members
(Swensen, Kabcenell and Shanafelt 2016). I found the process of decision making to be
somewhat difficult as different individuals possessed different perspectives and ideas about a
particular subject. Completing the task within the deadlines is easy in the process of
collaboration. The people who are skilled in collaboration have can easily make friends and do
the work jointly. I might have learnt those skills through encouraging creative environment.
Task 11-
I would rate myself 8/10 for the skills and attributes that I hold of technical coordination
as because of the fact that I am good at working as a team and I can communicate with my team
on the topic or the field itself. For example, for becoming an expert in paper origami takes lesser

mates very effectively. I also respect their ideas and thoughts along with the diversity that my
team holds and delegates the task with open discussions. However, I think I still need to develop
the skills of taking a leadership role as sometimes I really get very nervous when it comes to the
question of making the team mates understanding the task and suggesting proper way of doing it.
Task 21-
The code of ethics refers to a written set of rules and guidelines on the values, mission,
and vision of the organisation or business that it wants its workers to follow (Craft 2018). The
ethical codes are adopted by a business in order to help its employees in understanding the
prevailing differences. In other words, the codes of ethics are also referred to as a specific kind
of policy statement. If my boss asks me to lie then I would have report the same to the
appropriate authorities of the company or would directly leave the job if my boss himself is the
real owner of the firm. If any customer behaves unethically, I would try to make him understand
the code of ethics and ask him to maintain that or would simply report it to my senior
management team.
Task 22
The two values of mine that I believe to have an impact on how I live and work are those
of loyalty and diligences. I personally believe this fact that loyalty is very important to the
success of an individual both in his personal as well as workplace life (Guay et al. 2016). It is
also very important in bringing stability to any relationship of a human being as well as the
foundation of a real successful company. Furthermore, a diligent person is the one who displays
a hardworking and persistent effort in doing a certain task. Hence, it is considered to be a
combination of both patience as well as hard work. It is important in personal as well as official

staying and focusing on a particular task.
Task 24
I need to I think I need to have the skills of analytical thinking and group working.
Analytical thinking is one of the very critical components of visual thinking and it gives a person
the ability to solve the problems effectively as well as very quickly. The process of analytical
thinking involves a methodical step by step approach to thinking which further allows a person
to break down complicated problems into manageable and single components. With the same,
group work refers to the form of voluntary association of many people benefiting from the
cooperative learning, which enhances the net result of the activity.
Task 26
Job seeking refers to the act of an individual looking for employment. I learnt that in
order to get a good job (Kim and Lee 2015). I need to have very approachable and attractive
resume. I have also learnt that for getting a job in which I can enjoy doing the work, I need to
first ensure that my personal attributes as well as the skills that I hold better goes with the job
that I seek for. In Australia, the employers get along with the potential candidates via different
job portals and the government there encourages the applications to work and live in the country
from the ones who are likely to fill the skills shortages of the country. It is not that easy to get
into Australia like it is in my country.
