Part 1
Response to Question 1
The narrative mode in the scene depicts the closure of suspense, which was hanging
in the air before Belle discovers the place which has made her father, Maurice, a prisoner.
Before meeting the Beast, Belle has just denied Gaston’s proposal of marriage and had
discovered that her father had been lost in the jungle. The narrative mode is that of
transforming the chain of narration as we see a new chapter of Belle and Beast starting after
she discovers the secret of the magic rose. The Beast has already grown a liking for her with
Cogsworth, Lumiere, and Plume, trying to make her fall in love with him.
Response to Question 2
There is a reflector of the description of fiction in the scene, where we see Belle
walking through the wide stairs surrounded by giant statues of beast bearing under the weight
of the palace. The descriptive of fiction come to life as the visual imagery depicts the
transition of light to darkness as Belle approaches the West Wing, which is different and
secluded from the rest of the palace. The gate bore the knob in the shape of a beast face,
which shows the viewer that it was the threshold of a different world, and she was about to
enter into it. The portrait of the Beast as the prince remains unseen by Belle as well as the
viewer to depict the veiled life led by him.
Response to Question 3
The point of view device used here is the visualization of the moment in which Belle
was living. The narrator lets the audio and the video take over, and until the time Belle
discovers the magic flower on which the life in the palace was based, there was no sound
apart from the scared reaction which is noticed in her. Here, the narrative of the story, which

Lackoff’s model of anger shows that literature uses the metaphors as a mapping

metaphorical representation as cross-domain mapping. For example, in the videos, we see a
character’s face turning red to depict anger and dull to depict depression.
Part B

person’s presence for comfort and support in times of difficulty.
