Analyze the rise and fall of the Enron Corporation:
The documentary ”The smartest guys in the room” (Gibney) tells a story about Enron's
development and fall, ending up with a complete bankruptcy and one the biggest scandals in
corporate America. But before going bankrupt it was one of the most successful companies in
the US, saluted for its innovation and growth.
The question is: How can we, using organization theory, explain the rise and fall of the Enron
corporation?
The question should be answered using at least 3 theories/models about organizations from
the curriculum.

The response to the question must consist of a maximum of 19.200 characters, corresponding
to 8 standard pages at 2400 characters per page. Since it is a maximum, I prefer the answer to
be 7 pages instead of 8.
I have enclosed the parts of the curriculum that deals with culture in organisations as this is one
of the most obvious ways to explain the Enron issue. However, there is also an excerpt of the
chapter that deals with power, because the kind of power that Skilling and Lay exerted was pretty
special as well and probably aided them in creating the extreme culture in Enron.
However, it is completely up to you which theories/models to use, as long as it is at least 3.
