Introduction:
Entrepreneurship is the framework, which solves the queries exist in the community and it is
the process used to design, launch as well as to run the business effectively and compatible as
compared to other firms and this is done by, the entrepreneur. Innovation is also linked with
the entrepreneurship concept, it is because, some alterations in the original product is
required so, as to create its demand once more (Nirjar, 2011).
An Entrepreneur is a person who undertakes the risk of setting up of business and it is the
one, which combines all types of resources whether it is man, material or capital. For
explaining this concept clearly, entrepreneur of New Zealand is selected, Sian Simpson who
launches the Kiwi Landing Pad in the year 2011. The intention behind launching is to provide
assistance to start-up firms so that they can also expand their operations successfully
(Williams, 2014).
In this report, the discussion is on entrepreneurial traits which give her the idea to form the
business, so to help the society and along with this, the comparative advantage of the firm is
also noted here.
Background of the entrepreneur:
Sian Simpson is nowadays is so much successful but, her past is very much distressful, which
can be seen from the evident that she is suffering from the problem of depression as well as
nervousness and due to this, negative thoughts come up in her mind like she has to do suicide
for reliving the stress so by going through these points, it can be said that she has some

However, Sian accepts it as a reality and put efforts to transform her as a newer individual.

the actions of individual influenced by two factors that are, internal and external. Sian Simson
does not hamper from the external forces but, through internal. However, it also becomes a
motivating factor later on, which drives her success.
In present, Sian has travelled more than 45 countries so to popularise her business purpose
and her efforts become successful in giving landing to the New Zealand country at the global
level stage and for this, she works with kiwi businesses and technology enterprises which
want to export its product outside from the domestic country (kiwilandingpad, 2019).

Priority countries are San Francisco and New Zealand in which most of her time is spent and
in international, London, Singapore, and Paris specifically. Sian also invests her time in
visiting the hubs which are located in the US so, to foster the development of community and
teaching the enterprises, she keeps updated her knowledge about the trends which are running
in New Zealand as well in World (Downs, 2018).
Sian has good social skills, which gives importance to the diversity of people as she
understands clearly that, a different type of people in the organization means more ideas
possibly. So, Sian shared her ideas to people and also participates them in the decision
making process. In respect to technology as well as innovation, she learns the skill from the
best leaders in Silicon Valley, Israel, and New Zealand. Here, Cochran theory relating to
social responsibility is applied as society is given consideration while business (Linkedin,
2019).
Entrepreneurial Traits:
 Vision: It becomes possible only through vision as because this type of business is
usually not adopted by the other individuals because it does not work for profit, but
for the social cause. This vision is achieved because her passion is to serve society as
well as the New Zealand country. Here, the theory of uncertainty given by
McClelland is given consideration which focuses on the adoption of things in the
event of uncertainties.
 Creativity: It is possessed in her and due to this Kiwi Landing Pad bridges the gap,
which arises in between New Zealand and the USA (Wales, 2011).
 Understanding the importance of building networks: It is done by Sian, by making
of Sales and Marketing Jam and it has been made with the motive to provide a
platform where views of US start-up and technology experts, are noted down
particularly relating to their experience working with Kiwi Landing Pad. Here,
sociological theory is applied which was framed by Reynolds and it explains that
building a social network is an opportunity for business corporates, as it creates trust
among them (Westwood, 2016).
 Learning the knowledge which is not present in the individual: This skill is
present in her as she tried to find out the ways to enhance her knowledge base so to

 Determination: Sian is a determined person, as she comes out of her despair and
transform herself as a successful person, which can be seen, when she wins the award
of Global Women Influence in the year 2017 and along with this, she is also the two-
time winner of AIEMS award which was distributed by North Harbour Club and it is
specifically for innovation & technology (Stuetzer, 2014).
 Ethics: It is a term which guides the firms to how to conduct their operations in a
right manner. Kiwi Landing Pad is also the community which is made for helping the
entrepreneurs and it is connected with the nature of San Francisco, its headquarters.
Therefore accordingly, it follows the ethics principle.
Opportunity Recognition and Idea Development Process:
Sian Simpson utilizes the technology efficiently as her perception is that, it is helpful in
giving recognition to New Zealand country and due to this, many enterprises come to work
here, which in turn, enhance the domestic income of a country. For this process, she visits
more than 40 countries so to attract the organizations to come here to expand their businesses
and it becomes possible with the knowledge, community, and network (Stuetzer, 2014).
Now, its community member reaches to 4000 and they are from different countries of the
world. So, she not only lands the start-up businesses but, also helps in expanding their

It is easier to establish the business at the global level as because Kiwi Landing Pad is a non-

if any problem persists in which government support is required then, it automatically gets.
Along with this, Kiwi Landing Pad gets funds from big business houses such as Air New
Zealand, Bank of New Zealand and New Zealand Trade &Enterprise (Kaplan, 2013).
Kiwi Landing Pad connectivity is very much good with respect to technology and it takes a
great step in meeting the demand of know-how which is required, in the case of start-up
companies. Its Partnership with Covo solves the problem of office which is required to set up
the business and it is done by calling all Kiwi start-ups to come into single space, and this
facility is available at reasonable rates. In this facility, the benefit of café as well as bar is
included so as to facilitate the meetings with clients and to enjoy the music as well as snacks
with, friends (Downs, 2018).
Kiwi Landing Pad also adopts the cloud computing technology, for making the flow of
information easier.

going through all these points, it can be said that this business is able to survive for the longer

Recommendations:
o It is recommended that Sian should focus on expanding its business in other countries
just like she takes her business in the US country (Tang, 2012).
o In addition to this, she should focus on merging with the other enterprises so, as to
increase and diversify the operations of Kiwi Landing Pad effectively.

In conclusion, it can be said that the Kiwi Landing Pad community is a great step towards
society as well as for entrepreneurs. Hence, it can be said that entrepreneurial traits possessed
in Sian Simpson and that is the reason behind its success.
