Q3. Construct four open-ended questions about any of the important messages, themes,
concerns, or features that stood out to you in the reading. Ensure to include answers with
an explanation for each of your questions.
(i) How well is Australia performing relative to the rest of the world?
The report explains how difficult it is to define exactly what one means by ‘good performance,’
it is also hard to know what matrix will be appropriate to measure that performance, and finally,
it is hard to correct like-for-like data across the globe without distorting it. Further, the report
explains that because Australia is competing internationally in the space and the bur performance
matters. Individual startups compete across borders and markets for talent with other startups and
technology companies over the world. Various data sets corrected in different cities of Australia
show an effort on different areas with different methodologies and weightings, but this data
taken together with other world cities can help to paint a picture of Australia as a solid
representation of where the nation is ranked globally in terms of performance.
(ii) Why do startups matter?
Startups drive massive job creation – for instance, in 2012, Facebook is estimated to have
employed a few thousand employees, but in doing so, they had indirectly created 530000 jobs for
Facebook app creators and 130000 jobs in related Business Services.

Startups punch above their weight - Tech startups exist in all the fields where technology assists
in the growth of the company
Startups don’t stay early stage for long - According to the report, the time companies will be
responsible for driving global change. And the companies that will be responsible for driving this
change in Australia do not yet exist.
(iii) What is the Australian government doing in terms of copyright for tech startups?
The government has been operating using out of date law and reforms need to be made so that an
opportunity to address the massive inequalities in the technology sector will be made possible.
The copyright needs to be modernized so that it can be available and accessible for all startups
(iv) What is the role of technology, and what does it mean for startups?
Technology covers many areas such as supply chain, collaboration, project management among
others. These are important aspects of any business as it helps in communication, management of
information, data insights through analysis and trends, as well as transparency and control of
projects. All this paints a clear picture of the Australian industry that is focused on innovation
and transformation and that's why startups should take note and grab the opportunity.
