Environment sustainability 2
Introduction
Global climate change has negatively impacted the environment and resulted in an
increase in global warming along with the irregularities in the pattern of weather. Global
warming which is a prime example of climate change has resulted in the rise of the ocean level
and there some specie which are at the brink of extinction due to the negative impact of global
warming (Kubisch, Corbalán, Ibargüengoytía, & Sinervo, 2016). The report will discuss various
issues related to the environment along with the role of renewable energy and synthetic biology
in environment sustainability.
Population growth and stress on environment
The alarming increase in pollution growth has produced great stress on the land for the
available food for everyone, and various forest areas in the past have been destroyed for
developing land for agriculture and housing of the population. To meet the food demand of the
large population, the GMO crops were used in terms of diseases resistant crops, which help in
increasing the yield of the crop. The application of synthetic biology for the development of rice
with beta carotene is a prime example sustaining the food demand of a large population by
providing food with multiple properties, which saves land and other resources (Brooks, 2013).
Global warming and its effect
The impact of global warming on the lives of American has been briefly explained in the
article published by “ (U.S. global change research program, 2020)” that associate global
warming with an adverse effect on health, agriculture and food security.
To overcome the problem of global warming, replacement of traditional energy sources
such as petroleum, diesel and their derivatives are being replaced by more environment efficient
renewable energy sources. The renewable energy source includes wind energy for the production
of electrical energy; also solar energy is being used for the production of electrical energy and in
some of the research utilization of tidal wave has been reported for the production of electrical
energy. The utilization of biofuel in the vehicles has resulted in a decrease in the emission of
greenhouse gases along with the reduction in particulate matter emission.

Renewable energy
The utilization of renewable energy for environmental protection has been adopted by
many developed countries.
A report published by ( Donald, 2013), illustrated the problems related to the
implementation of policy regarding utilization of renewable source of energy in America, the
primary reason of hindrance towards the implementation of policy as a national policy is the
fragmented structure of the country, hence each state has its policy, whereas, the wholesale
supply of electrical power is handled by the federal government.
The scenario has changed over the period and recent reports have shown the increase in
the number of innovative projects in terms of production and utilization of renewable energy. A
report published by (Miller, Carriveau, & Harper, 2018), showed the effect of new innovative
financial policies such as carbon bonds and hybrid bonds, which are related to the application of
renewable energy for the power requirement of industries. The carbon bond is issued to the
investors in return for their payment for the establishment of a renewable energy project; the
initial payment of the investor is repaid from the revenue generated via renewable energy project
along with the interest.
Synthetic biology
The highly adaptive nature of some organism provides a perspective regarding the
applicability of synthetic biology for the development and harness organism, to provide new
solutions that will help in achieving sustainable environmental development of the future. The
application of synthetic biology in the current scenario can be grasped by the report published,
which indicates that the industries based on synthetic biology will be approximately 62 billion
euros (Synbicite, 2020).
The study published by (Gronvall, 2015), elaborated on the application of synthetic
biology in the American context. The applications of synthetic biology were diversified in the
field of health, oil, along with the increase in productivity of multi-nutrient grains. However, the
application of various genetic tools in the field of synthetic biology has raised many concerns.

Therefore regulations are required for the management of gene alteration in terms of
saving biodiversity and threat due to the unwanted action of genetic alteration. The study
reported by (Trump, 2017), elaborated on the restraints in front of the governments, such as the
complex policy making in America, due to the requirement of decentralized veto holders in both
the process of policymaking and implementation, results in hindrances of hard law formation.
Therefore TIPAC has designed a framework for the use of synthetic biology to achieve
environment-friendly sustainable development.
Conclusion
The current state of environmental pollution due to the population increase and advanced
industrialization has presented great stress on the environment. To prevent the environment from
the imminent threat of global warming, the application of renewable energy sources of energy in
place of the traditional source of energy has been preferred over the years. The initiative of the
American government towards renewable energy has been changed in recent years and it is more
favorable for clean energy. The application of synthetic biology for sustainable development
needs to be closely monitored with stricter regulations.
