1 Identify environmental regulations that applies in local government area
It is necessary to protect atmosphere and develop a sustainable environment by following
certain practices. Moreover, government is responsible to enforce laws and regulation related to
it. Thus, in Australia there are several regulations that applies at shopping centre which are as
follows :-
EPBC act 1999- This act states ensures that there is no negative impact on environment due to
any potential activity done (Chkanikova and Mont, 2015). The local authorities are responsible
for protecting environment impact. Here, the government maintain track record of particular area
and then takes a decision. At Market world shopping centre this act will allow local authority to
monitor impact and take proper measures.
Protection of environment operations act 1997- It enables government to protect environment
policies and adopt approaches to develop sustainable atmosphere. In this there are certain goals
and objective set. Also, guidelines are mentioned related to how to take initiatives. This act will
allow shopping centre to reduce pollution. This will force management to formulate policy and
maintain sustainability through energy efficiency usage.
2 Identify resources and initiatives which are available to reduce waste
At shopping centre there are some initiatives which is taken in order to reduce waste.
Furthermore, the resources that can be used in state are as follows :-
There are some shops that recycle waste generated but only 10% of waste is recycled.
Thus, business can reduce waste by taking measures as below :-
They can use energy efficient bulbs and remove centralised lighting system. It will allow
shops to switch off their light separately. In this way use of energy can be reduced.
By using technology to built a green environment and using renewable sources of energy.
Implementation of waste management system which will help in recycling of waste
generated from stores (Le Blanc, 2015). So, it will be easy to reduce waste.
3 List 1 initiative which is relevant in tourism, hospitality and event industry
There are many initiatives that are taken by Australian government to protect environment.
It has enabled them to develop and maintain sustainable atmosphere and reduce waste. The
initiative is as follows :-

ASBAS- This initiative is taken by northern Australia tourism that aims to support small
tourism business to contribute towards economy. It has improved the capacity of small enterprise
to operate in north region. The resources available are finance, technology, etc.
Funds- This can be used to build sustainable tourism and offering new products and services.
Technology – It can be used to promote green tourism and generating awareness. By this it will
be easy to reduce pollution by recycling waste. Thus, sustainability can be maintained.
