Topic: Issues faced by the environment.
The report covers the challenges faced by the environment these days and also the causes and
reasons behind these environmental issues. Engineering approaches can be used to explore the
solutions for various sustainability-related issues. The environment is facing many issues
nowadays which are related to water, deforestation, food, energy, global warming, extinction,
population, pollution, overshoot, climate change, transportation etc. Sustainability is the ability
to continue the process without diminution or interruption and maintain continuity for a long
time. To minimize the environmental issues, development and processes should be done in such
a way that it can meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generation (Baraun & Himanshu, 2014).
Climate change: Climate scientists agreed that the climate is continuously changing. The cause
of climate change is the emission of greenhouse gases. the main sources of greenhouse gases are
transportation and home. This also causes global warming. As a solution to this problem
certified home energy audit can be helpful to make the home energy efficient. Also, instead of
using fuel-based transportation medium use electric vehicles for transportation.
Pollution: Climate change and pollution are somehow linked together. Because some
greenhouse gases are also causing air pollution. The water and soil are also not pollution free.
The causes behind water and soil pollution are improper management of waste, increasing
population, oil emission in water etc. The solution for the pollution issue is common to climate
change such as one can use the lower-emission vehicle, switch to green energy, use renewable
sources of energy (ethical electric).
Deforestation: Forest plays a vital role in environmental health. Deforestation is the main reason
behind access to greenhouse gases in the environment. The main causes behind deforestation are
increasing population and need of people (house, wood, clothes, food etc.). The solution for this
problem is to stop using paper towels, and paper-based products. Grow more trees to make a
healthy environment (Anon., 2014).
Soil Erosion and degradation: Unstable industrial agriculture practices are the cause behind the
soil erosion and degradation. This can cause less arable land, increase flooding, desertification,

and polluted waterways. As a solution for this issue support sustainable agriculture, switch to
non-toxic green pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides.
General causes of environmental pollution:
 Pollution from transportation: Increased population is the main reason behind this cause.
 Emission of fossil fuel from power plants: This is caused by burning coal and can cause
smog and toxic gases.
 Emission of massive CO2: This happens due to the increased number of transportation
mediums and forest cutting.
 Radiation: Ozon layer depletion and electromagnetic radiation is the main reason behind the
radiation issue.
 Deforestation: This is happening due to the increased population and increasing need for
food, cloth, place to live etc.
The general solution to environmental issues:
 Electric and hybrid vehicles can be used
 Use public transportation instead of personal
 Use ecologically friendly power technologies
 Use Soler energy and wind energy as energy sources
