Question 1
Commonwealth Environmental Law, Regulation and Policy Relevant to Workplace
The key environmental legislation is the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity
Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The main aim of EPBC Act is to offer protection to national
environmental significance matters. The protected matters are threatened species, properties of
World Heritage, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, as well as resources of water with regard to
mining of coal. Activities that significantly influence the national environmental significance
matter must pass through the environmental assessment and has to b approved by the
Commonwealth Environment Minister.
There are other two bilateral agreements that are formed by Commonwealth and these include:
Assessment bilateral agreements: This accredits the processes of assessment for both the
territory and state on behalf of the EPBC Act. Consigning of a project will still be to

Running Taps There is usually more flow from the taps than
expected.
There should be consideration of adapting taps
by either fitting a flow regulator or what is
commonly refered to as aerating tap insert. The
other option may be changing of the tap.
Vehicles of the dust suppression Majority of the vehicles which are used in the
dust suppression in the construction are usually
water inefficient. Use of hydraulic spinning
system can be as effective as 90% water
efficient than the splash system of plate which
makes main quality of water available to
everyone.
Addition of chemicals can also be considered
an option of reducing the water volume
required for similar purposes.
Washing of wheels Most of the drive through washers do not
allow for the recycling of the used water. This
is wasteful! The use of a closed wheel washes
to allow for the reuse of the water for the
processes. Closed loop wheel wash should be
used since it allows for the reuse of water for
the similar processes. Systems of waterless will

be another option of innovation which can be
used in the removal of debris from tyres.

installed with the basic spray system to assist
in the conservation of water during the
operation of the cleaning(Seo et al 2015).

Describe what the following term means: “Renew; re-use and recycle”
Recycle: It refers to the transformation of the materials which have already in the raw materials
for similar products or others. It is possible to make separation of the wastes for the
process of recycling which can promote such action. The soda or beer is a classic
example for this.
Reuse: This is another way of avoiding wasting what can be used for other functions or the same
action. The materials are therefore used for other activities which it can effectively
support instead of throwing it. When a material is reused, it would be discarded to be part
of the landfill, the life will increase(Zhang, Boukamp and Teizer 2015).
Renew: It refers to the revival of the properties of the materials so that it can continue serving the
same purpose as opposed to its disposal which will lead to accumulation of wastes and
subsequently environmental degradation.

How to communicate Hazards
Various human activities pose threat to the environment or many sites, chemicals do pose a
range of long term and short term hazards to workers. MADAN Company has established a
standard communication system. This procedure has been dabbed as MADANCOM. This is a set
of rules which has been designed to ensure that all workers are informed properly about the
hazards that they are yet to face. This communication is enhanced through:
 Labelling of the hazardous chemicals approximately
 Provision of the safety data sheets for every worker who is likely to be affected by
the dangerous operation or the activities as per the job description.

The primary responsibility of any sector of power or power station is to ensure that the process
of power generation is actually safe, efficient and can sustain stable supply of power. Kareeya
Power Station has put various measures into place to ensure that environment is protected against
destruction. Some of these measures include:
It is a common practice that the volume of water in the dam is regulated depending on the
demand. When the demand is too high, large volume of water is released to meet the
demand .this leads to the erosion of the river banks. In order to control this impact, trees are
planted around the river banks hence ensuring that the erosion is controlled as a way of
complying with environmental management plan(Demirkesen and Arditi 2015).

Facilities and space: MADAN Company has acquired large number of facilities including
excavators some of which are not utilized. Such spaces are practically wasted and should

 Failure to adopt some of the most appropriate methods of water conservation by the
company has created shortages as per the requirements. This has led to failure by the

involved in specific undertakings or activities of any business form. In order to ensure that
disputes do not arise in such agreements, the two parties must ensure that they understand terms
and conditions of the same contracts. This should go alongside communication on the

Systems of energy efficiency: All companies whether public or private aims at generation of
profit other than maintenance of the regular operations. MADAN Company should consider

using efficient equipment including excavators to save on energy. Also most of the construction
activities should be done during the day so as to save on use of fuel for lighting.
Procedures and policies:
The company should consider making policies that are not only realistic but also in concurrent
with the latest technologies. The procedures that are to be followed for each and every operation
routine should be presented in simple terms so as to eliminate the possible errors that can result
into substantial losses and damages to the company.

Resource depletion is a fact that every successful company must address properly in order to
ensure sustainability. The continuity of any company will rely on the effectiveness of addressing
