350.org is an organization working to address the climate related problems. It has an
international presence. It aims to stop the usage of fossil fuels and also wants usage of
renewable energy sources at a global level. The safe limit for carbon dioxide has been
identified as 350 parts per million ( ppm ) but it is 415 ppm at present.
350.org is an organisation that focuses on the climate change globally. The main focus of the
organization is to decrease the use of fossil fuels and to increase the use of renewable energy
resources. They keep a regular check on the environmental changes globally and let the
international organizations and the world leaders accountable for such changes by giving
them the correct facts as well as figures. This organization was founded in the year 2007. Its
headquarters was in Oakland.
The major purpose of this organization is to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. It also
received the award of Right Livelihood. As the name suggests, 350 here comes from the 350
ppm of carbon dioxide which is he safe limit of that in the environment. It has a global
presence with the volunteers present in around 188 countries. It runs the campaigns ranging
from local to global level. Some of the campaigns are fossil fuel divestment, keystone XL
pipeline and fossil fuel bans.
There are around 300 organisations across the globe, which are associated with 350.org
which makes the organisation easy to spread the word globally.

The organization implements its plans through various types of activities like campaigning on
the online platforms, organizing at the grass root level, collaborating with other groups and
organizations and by public action in masses. There are thousands of volunteers working for
the organization. On October 24, 2009, the “ International Day of Climate Action “ was
observed. This was done for influencing the delegates of UNFCCC, 2009 meeting. Several
rallies , tree plantations, meetings, dinners ( Carbon free ), walks etc. were organized to
spread awareness ( Klein , 2015 ). In 2010, a campaign was organized for fighting the climate
change at a local level by tree plantations as well as installation of solar panels. In the year
2012, several rallies were held ( Slogan was “ Connect with Dots ” ). The purpose was to
bring awareness regarding the extreme weather conditions and the climate change. In 2013,
the Summer Heat campaign was launched. In 2012, People’s Climate March was held. In the
year 2016, a message was spread ( “ we have to keep it in the ground ” ) by a mass action for
coal, oil and gas projects. In 2018, an event “Rise for Climate” was organized. In 2019, the
Global Climate Strike is being organised (Monastersky , 2009 ).
Its aim is to spread awareness about the climate crisis. It also wants to pressurise the media,
politicians as well as industries related to fossil fuels. They also work for tree plantations,
promote the word “350” , spread awareness and hold campaigns.
Hence, it can be readily seen that the organisation is doing a great job and implementing its
ideas well. It periodically takes some action which is well planned to promote awareness and
carries out its activities.
