Environmental sustainability can be defined as “the rates of renewable resource harvest,
pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely”
(Schaltegger, Burritt and Petersen 2017). It is to be noted that if they cannot continue or last
indefinitely then they are not sustainable. In other words, it can also be defined as the process
which involves the effective maintenance of the factors or practices that adds to the “quality
of environment on a long-term basis” (Schaltegger, Burritt and Petersen 2017).

The primary importance of “sustainable work practices” lies in the fact that the various
“sustainable work practices” aim to minimize the impact as well as the damage caused to the
environment by the work activities or practices which are conducted by the companies or
business organizations. These practices also intend to reduce the wastage of the natural
