Question 1 - Do you consider yourself an environmentally friendly traveller,
an environmentalist, or an eco-tourist?
Answer 1 – Yes, I do consider myself as an environmentally friendly traveller as I prefer to consider
various measures while going for any trip. These measures include using re—useable shopping bag rather
than using plastic bags that take up to 500 years to bio-degrade (Liburd, 2018). I also prefer to use public
transport while travelling in order to reduce carbon emission in the environment due to private transport.
Other than this I also try to use overland travel instead of flights as it helps to protect the environment as
well.
Question 2 - Could you provide some direct and concrete solutions to help the
tourism industry become more sustainable?
Answer 2 – In order to assist tourism industry to become more sustainable there are various solutions that
can be used such as saying no to plastic, supporting local economy, reducing illegal trade, etc. Along with
this education of tourists & community, the first crucial component to emerge is the need for educating
both local and tourists individuals about each & every aspects of tourism. Travel agencies and operators
needs to inform each and every tourist about the environmental policies and importance of sustainability
(Panigrahi, 2019). Government needs to improve public transportation services so that it can reduce Co2
emission.
Question 3 - What is sustainable development for you?
Answer 3 – According to me sustainable development refers to the way for individuals for using
resources without wasting or misusing them. It means doing development without effecting or damaging
environment. Sustainable development is the development that fulfil the needs of present without
compromising or avoiding the ability of future generations for meeting their self or own needs.
