Introduction
I enter the stage in a grey business suit and a red colored tie to show authority. I was
smiling at the audience and showing a lot of confidence through an upright posture towards
the audience. My audience is an inter-university class of students about 1000 in number who
study environmental science. My topic is Global warming. My authority to give a speech on
global warming comes from the fact that I am an associate professor at Yale University,
School of environmental science and a practicing consultant with the United Nations habitat.
I have been practicing environmental law and consultancy for the last twenty years with a
specific focus on global warming.
This is my effective opening sentence which I connect with the audience. In
convening this meeting, it is because many of us notice that today we are under threat of
climatic change due to global warming than any other time in history. The threat to our
environment is urgent, serious and growing tremendously. Future generations will judge us
harshly if we do not respond to this challenge swiftly, boldly and together. If we do not
respond swiftly, we risk having and consigning posterity to a catastrophe that is irreversible
(American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2016).
I move to the side and take on the speakers gallery to make the presentation. The
presentation will use both humor and serious business address so as to drive the point home.
The visual aids in my presentations includes charts, power point presentations, diagrams, and
illustrations. The pictures include glaciers melting in the artantic and the northern
hemispheres. Other pictures include drought ravaging in North and East Africa causing
deaths of animals and human sufferings. Some of the charts and graphs shows the
progression of global warming over the last five decades and its acceleration in the last
decade. The graph also shows the increase in global warming and its effect in the next twenty

years. This is so that I can connect with the audience. I am delivering this speech in the
lecture room of the university from midday to quarter to four. It will also be an interactive
session where student will have a question session at the end of my presentation. I move from
left to right for stage presence and refer to the visual aide that is standing on the table. For
better concentration, I make eye contact with different people in the room.
The main points in the speech is the definition of the global warming after the
introduction stage. After the definition of global warming, I will certainly have drawn a lot of
attention to the 1000 students who have attended the public speaking. The second point in my
global warming speech is what is causing it. The effect that global warming is causing to the
earth and its inhabitants. What are the possible global warming solution and how first will we
take to at least curb the rising cases of global warming. These are some of the questions and
points that I will be addressing in my informative speech on global warming (Gross, 2017).
As I introduce the speech and give definition of it, I move from one point to another on the
podium just to engage with the audience.
Global warming
In my speech I will define global warming. This is the gradual increase in earths and
oceans atmospheric temperature. Average temperatures have over the last century have gone
up over one degree in temperature. However in current days, scientists will agree with me
that the earth’s temperature are starting to increase at a tremendously fast rate.
What causes global warming?
At this point in my speech, I will use visual aides to show the causes of global
warming especially in the last couple of years. Global warming is caused primarily by rise in
greenhouse gases such as nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane trap that heats the

earth’s atmosphere from the inside. I will use humor and an example to show how these
happens and how the greenhouse gases heat up the earth’s atmosphere. Another factors is
burning of fossil fuels like petroleum products which contributes greatly to the increase in
temperature. Deforestation is the last point that contribute to the rise in earth’s atmospheric
temperature. At this point in my speech, I will walk to the visual aide table and show images
of deforestations and declining forest cover around the world (Hegde, 2018).
Effects of Climatic change to the earth and the people
In my speech I will show the grave effect of climatic changes using pictures and
charts. I will show melting of arctic glaciers that threatens the indigenous life of polar bears.
The melting also causes the sea levels to rise which could lead to massive problems on low
lands such as flooding. Increase in global sea temperatures affect in water algae which affects
the food chain in marine life.
Possible solutions
Just like in effects and causes, I will use charts, graphs and pictures to emphasize on
the points that I have been making. Such pictorial representation include planting of trees,
and carpooling where it is necessary. Limiting toxic and harmful factory gas emission and
vehicle fumes that damages the ozone layer is an important point. At this point, I will be
having eye contact as I take a commanding stage presence at the end of my speech. I move to
the side and take on the speakers gallery o make the presentation. My presentation will use
both humor and serious business address so that I may drive the point home. The visual aids
in my presentations includes charts, power point presentations, diagrams, and illustrations
(Yorkston, Baylor, & Britton, 2017).

As I conclude, global warming is here and has far reaching effects on us than any time
before. I will persuade the students to join me and others in helping to minimize the damage
to the planet due to our day to day activities. As much as the speech is informative it is also
persuasive. I will finally exit the stage confidently, giving random eye contacts and looking
straight ahead.
