REFLECTION AND EPORTFOLIO
The skills, knowledge, and practices I have gained in this unit will be helpful in future practice in
the university in several ways. I have learned to write for an academic and scholarly audience
with strict adherence to writing formats. I have learned to spell-check and proof-read my writing
to a very high standard which will be useful in submitting papers while at the university. I have
also learned to be concise when writing a summary. In addition, I have gained the ability to
condense information into executive summaries. I have become competent in analyzing charts
and diagrams as part of communication that requires non-textual representation. Using the same
as part of my writing has helped me to communicate complicated concepts in language that is
easily understood.
In my future career, the skills I have gained will be critical in writing reports for management
and clients. There is a specific format which is required in writing for management which guides
them in making decisions (Gaffe, Loewy and Almont 2016). There is also a specific format for
writing reports for clients which is informative. The tone of voice used in writing is important in
written communication as it can affect how the content is received by the intended audience
(Monopoly 2013). Perhaps the most important aspect of writing is the ability to use different
technology platforms such as emails and blogs for communication. It is however, a fine line
when differentiating between official and quasi-official communication.
