INTRODUCTION
Equality is something in which every individual has been given an equal opportunity irrespective
of their religion, colour, race, gender and age. Diversity is about taking account of the differences
between people and groups of people, and placing a positive value on those differences. There are
many aspects of individual in which they have to work very hard and with patience so that their
behaviour will give positive impact to the organization. Present report will lay emphasis on
identifying and explain the categories with regards to equality and diversity. It will also focus on
policy and regulatory framework affecting the equality and diversity. Study will also explain the
role of human right commission. It will also lay focus on the communication strategies to promote
diversity.
TASK 1
An Identify and explain the categories with regards to equality and diversity.
There are various categories which are related to equality and diversity. These characteristics
promote equality of opportunity for all the individuals. In this people are not treated differently
and not being discriminated on any of the basis. These includes the following:
Age – Age doesn't matter if it is not connected with experience, as people says it is just a
number. It is a fact that people are diverse by their age but if they are working in organization
and having same level of experience then there should be equality between them. For example:
In order to protect students from age discrimination, age limits and reservation quota has been
removed.
Gender – In many organization managers judge employees by their gender, but in Tesco every
employee is equal either male or female. Female can also do same work as male do, and in today's
time female are much better then male in many terms (Greene, 2019). Male and female are
diversified by gender but they are equal while it comes to their work or life. For example: In our
organization none of the student are judge on the basis of their gender and if any kind of gender
discrimination is faced by students then they have an authority to directly report the incident to
their relevant department

Religion – The biggest problem which arises everywhere is judging people with their religions, it
is not good to judge people with their religion as religion is made by people, so everyone should
see people as human and should follow humanity. Religion is highly diversified as people are
having different culture and traditions with their religions. For example: Same as above if any of
the student is judged on the basis of their Religious beliefs, then the student can report the
discrimination incident to the higher authorities.
Disability- Equality means that there should not be any discrimination on the basis of disability.
The handicapped and disabled individuals must also be given equal opportunity just like the able
one. For example: if any of the student is judged on the basis of their disability and it happens
then they can report the discrimination incident to higher authorities. Not only this, disabled
students are given first priority in most of the task and processes.
Pregnancy and maternity- Discrimination can also be done to pregnant women. In this woman
are being treated unequally because they are pregnant. Discrimination like these women can be
treated unfairly. Because of pregnancy they can be laid off from the job.
Race: Individuals can also have discriminated on the basis of race. This can also be because of
the colour, ethics and origin. For example: if any of the students are judged on the basis of their
race, then they can report the discrimination incident to the higher authorities and they can also
complain this or report it to discrimination authority of the organization.
Sexual orientation- This discrimination is against individuals because of the sexual behaviour. It
comes in the context of employment actions.
Marriage: Discrimination can be happened to both men and women. This happens when you are
treated worse than other workers in your workplace because you are married or in a civil
partnership. For example: a woman works night shifts in a distribution warehouse but is dismissed
when she gets married because her employer thinks a married woman should be at home in the
evening.
Civil partnership- When people who are not married are in civil partnership. Discrimination
related to it can also take place. They can be laid of the jobs when they come under civil partners.
As a teacher I protect students from discrimination. I speak with learners to discuss any special
needs they have and discuss with the learner if they would like to share with peers the needs they
have. I look at the culture of the school and consider how as a teacher I may be impacted. Ensure

learners understand the behaviour what is required of them. Be clear of any disciplinary action as
a result of any forms of discrimination. I ensure all learners value each other and they are getting
the basic rights they are entitled to. Make sure all the 9 protected characteristics are presented to
learners. Allow a talking culture in your classroom where any forms of discrimination is quickly
brought out in the open and discussed.
B Diversity.
Diversity defines that each individual is unique and has a different quality. Diversity can be
defined by gender, cast, age, status, etc. Diversity defines in which category culture and people
comes.
ï‚· In any organization diversity can be of different type that every organization is having
different culture diversity (Khanum, and Dsouza, 2019).
ï‚· Age diversity in organization doesn't matter until it contains high experience. For example
If two people with different age group working in Tesco and one is having age of 44 and
another of 34 but both of them are having same work experience and gives same
productivity to company then company will not give any advantage to them by their age.
ï‚· Same in the case of gender, Tesco believes that diversity of gender not make a difference
if they both are doing same work then should be treated same.
For example: in order to promote diversity within classroom various initiatives can be taken such
as: different perspective of students can be encouraged, equal access to opportunities like class
monitoring is provided to students etc. Empowering All Genders to feel part of inclusive learning,
and ensure learning is taking place. Each student will have their own story and each student will
be able to mix this along with opinions, backgrounds, preferences, and experiences. By allowing
students to share the above to the classroom, this can assist the class by creating a good class
atmosphere. As a teacher I create groups, mix the students from all backgrounds, give them a fun
topic in respect to multicultural view and enjoy people mix and get to know each other.
C Importance of promoting equality and diversity.
Promoting equality and diversity is very much important to bring harmony in work and for
reducing conflicts which arises due to inequality. If people understand that how to work with
equality they will understand the value of every individual, as in many of the countries people

treat others badly due to religion diversification and some due to inequality (Nachmias,
Aravopoulou and Caven, 2019).
So if people and community will promote thus things then all people will work with similar and
clear mentality. In classroom there must be more equality and diversity as this will help learner
in achieving their goals and objectives as well as create opportunities for progression. It will
also make students more comfortable in the class.
In order to promote equality and diversity within an organization inclusive classrooms can be
built for both general and special students, best practises can be promoted within the
organization for the employees, multi-cultural society can be build, all kinds of disabilities can
be identified so that solution for including those disabled employees can be included. The idea is
to reduce risk and harm to all student, hence why effective promoting could minimize the risk of

Equality and Diversity at any place is very important, it is promoted by treating the staffs and
students fairly without discrimination. Create an inclusive culture. Participation in every task of
the learning equally. Hiring the staff from diverse situation will promote the diversity and
equality among the employees of the organization.
Create a fair environment. It enhances the communication skills of the students and academics.
Easily the communication will decrease the gap of boundaries. It can also help the people to get
aware of their rights of equality either working in organization or studying in the university.
Globalization is increasing if everyone treats each other as equal (Riach and Brewis, 2019). No
partiality is done. Promoting equality leads people to be educated about their rights. The
teachers have the responsibilities to give the training about the rights, so the utilization of the
rights gets official. Acceptance of different people in the organization, keeps healthy relation
between people. Positive attitudes should be developed from a person a positive attitude about
each other. If awareness in the people spread, they get aware of each other rights and do not
harm anybody. Arrange the training programs, Campaigns, about awareness of rights. Discussing
within the community, groups.
In order to promote equality and diversity within the classroom following points can be
considered like: rules should be set regarding the way students should behave and act, treating all
the students equally and enforce a level play field, creating inclusive classrooms by engaging

Learning can help students in growing. It can make their grades better and it can also help them
in achieving study objectives. It includes the following:
There are various factors which affects the learning of the human being which is described
below:
Confidence: Confidence is the factor which affects the learning of the people both positively and
negatively. The level of confidence should increase the way of learning to improve the career
and growth in the future. Self-confidence is one of the most important factors in the learning of
the people because it gives effective and efficient motivation which helps the individuals to
become more focused about their career and future (Nachmias and Caven, 2018). Motivation
helps to improve the capacity of learning in the individuals so that they will learn in their best.
Social and cultural factors: Social factors are lifestyles, customs and values that defines the
society and affects the learning of the students and learner in their early stage. Extreme poverty,
neglect and abuse will affects the students learning. The students must have the impact of
cultural because there are different culture in the society and have different language, practices
and values which the people follow in the society. The students face different if they are from
different culture, and they have to understand the language spoken in the country studying in and
values of the culture firstly. The terms and conditions of the society could create a problem in the
learning of the students. Every country has different culture and society. If a student is coming
from a different country, then the student might take a bit longer in absorbing the text in the
materials and teaching, consequently may affect the learning and understanding. If the culture
and the society make the discrimination about the race color, age of the people, then this will
affect the learning of the students.
Educational backgrounds: It refers to the family backgrounds which affects the learning of the
student if the parents/partner of the learner supports and motivates the learner. The academic
performance of the learner affected by the behavior and educational support of the parents which
initiate the habits of learning.

B: Impact of different abilities on learning:
There are lots of abilities which affects the effective and efficient learning of the students in their
early stage and make them the good human being. Ability of reading, development of the skills
and analytical skills explains the strength of the learner that how they learn faster to improve
their academic performance. These abilities are explained below:
Reading ability: The ability of reading develops the social skills and capacity of learning in the
learner and improve their performance. The atmosphere and the environment in which the
learner grow up affects the ability to read.
Development of skills: When the students are leaning their skills must be developed at the same
time. Development of the skills impact by improving level of confidence, effective
communication skills, work as a team, making new and innovative ideas improves the strength of
people in the working (Ng and Klarsfeld, 2018).
Analytical skills: Analytical skills involves the people have the ability to deal with their
problems by giving examples and solution of the problems. It improves to learn how to become a
problem solver in the society and how to face the difficult situation of the society.
C: Barriers to equity and diversity and how they are relevant to our practices:
There are lots of barriers which affects Equality and Diversity. Which are a lack of opportunities
for the people to show their skills, discrimination, and harassment and peer pressure. These are
challenges for the people in their effective and efficient learning.
Lack of opportunities: When the students do not have the better opportunities in the working
areas, they cannot learn properly and it will affect their career and growth in the future (Nkomo
and Thatcher, 2019). Effective learning and knowledge of the students depends on the
opportunities which they have to showcase their skills in the working environment. For example
organizing the events and the activities that the students will learn more and move towards the
success of their career.
Harassment: It is also the biggest challenges for the students in their effective learning and
future growth. If the seniors of the students harass them then they got depressed and feel isolated
so that they cannot learn properly and effects them on the mental level. For example by taking
the serious action on the issues which harass the students and made the complaint to the principle
about the problem which is faces by the students.

Discrimination: the discrimination on the gender, age, colour etc. of the students have affects
leaning. If the students are neglected by their colour and age factors they feel demotivated and
have diverse effects on their performance because they cannot learn accurately so it is the major
problem in the learning of the students (Janssens and Steyaert, 2019). For example giving the
knowledge about the equality and discrimination to the students minimizes the problem which is
faced by the students due to their color, race, gender, age etc.
Peer pressure: if the pressure on the students are greater than they cannot tolerate and that can
affect their learning and decrease their level of leaning. For example by reducing the stress level
of the students by introducing the effective activities that they can involve in them and reduce the
level of the pressure.
I have come across harassment where an individual was harassing another pupil. I quietly spoke
with the student at break time, kindly advised them not to make comments or gestures towards
the harassed. I clearly stated that the institution have a strict policy on Harassment and the
implications of harassment, and this matter needs not to go further, if the offending individual is
cautioned informally. How to remove these barriers, can be done with minimal effort. When I
first meet a class I clearly emphasize that under no circumstances will the bold points above be
tolerated or ignored. This sets the tempo, and I as a teacher should make sure all learners feel
safe.
D: Systems to remove the barriers to equality and diversity:
There are various systems which helps to remove the barriers in the equality and diversity such
as responses from the feedback from students, motivates and encourages working the team,
effective and good practices should be shared and proper engagement of students.
Responding to feedback from the students: These barriers can be removed by giving
constructive response to feedback of students on their problems which they are facing in their
learning (Kato and Kodama, 2018). Appropriate response and take actions on that problems
motivate the students and brings improvement in their learning. For example a teacher should
listen to the problem of the students and take the significant action for solving the problem in the
learning providing it does affect safeguarding and breach of institution policy

Encouraging team working: Teamwork should be encouraged so that everybody could learn
through each other and brings the ability to fight against the barriers and improved their level of

The legislation is the most important tool of government to manage and organize the society
and protect the people. The laws protect the rights of the people. According to Equality Act
2010, everybody has the right to get equal pay in organization according to their capabilities, sex
discrimination act posse equal rights to males and females, disability discrimination act posse the
equal right to disable person, Race relation act posse not to discriminate with people. These rights
of equality help the people to not feel different and no partiality between the people would take
place. Policies and Procedures of the organization are very important to be considered as the
policies and procedures related to the rules and regulations of the company which should be
obeyed by the employees, so it should be explained clearly to the employees (Brown, 2016). The
Equality of Opportunity is given to everyone, all the people should take the opportunity, it is
like the freedom. Quality Assurance procedure is about maintaining the quality of the services
provided, with respect to internal and external quality factors. The Workplace Regulation 1992
covers the health, safety and welfare issues, so the risk at the workplace is minimized. Criminal
Records Bureau checks if the individual has any spent or unspent convictions, warnings or

reprimands, cautions, a standard CRB check is sufficient. So it gives the brief about the person's
background, which is necessary for the organization.
Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training.
This policy and regulatory framework relates to equality and diversity. The Education and
Training foundation has a certain set standards aimed at trainers and teachers to abide, when the
standards were implemented in 2014.
According to this policy individuals at the workplace should get equal rights, for example they
can get equal wages not depending on sex, gender religious beliefs etc. Diversity is everywhere
in the world at workplaces and organisation etc. People should not feel that they are different
from others as they possess the diversity in racism, language, culture. So they should be treated
with friendliness at such places. In an institution teachers should not differentiate amongst the
learner because it affects their physiological state in many senses.
Legislation: They are types of strategic system in place which commandingly commands the
