profitability ratio. A study report on Tesco.
LO2
P3: Primary and secondary research following appropriate methods
In research project research methodology plays a vital role. This is because it provide
collection of both primary and secondary data regarding the project. Some of the points
regarding research methods are as follows:
Research choice: In order to conduct this study, quantitative research is selected. It is
followed by researcher when they need data in form of number and reliability . Apart from this
it takes more time and resources as compare to qualitative study.
Research approach: There are two types of research approaches which are, inductive and
deductive approaches. Researcher is using deductive approaches for the completion for the
project. On the other hand it supports the analyzation of quantitative information without any
problem. Inductive approach does not apply for this investigation because it requires qualitative
data and also needs more resources.
Research philosophy: Within a study, positivism philosophy will be applied as it
supports an investigator in collection and analysation of quantitative information about the
selected topic. Interpretivisim philosophy is not appropriate for current study because it is
completely based on qualitative study .
Time horizon: This is another research method that is classified into two different
sections i.e. cross sectional and longitudinal. Within an research project, a cross sectional
approach will be used as it is based on current situation and support in completion of study
within a given time.

considered best sources. On the other hand, primary research gives the outputs of the structured
questionnaire with the outputs used for deductive approach.
Cost, access and ethical consideration: This is an important part of study because it
supports researchers in completion of primary and secondary study in appropriate manner.
Sufficient amount of capital will be required by the investigator for doing each activity of study
in an accurate manner. Along with this, researchers have complete access to gather information
about the study to the employees of Tesco. As it turns to support researchers by saving their time
and cost. Additionally, there are some principles of research ethics which are confidentiality,
autonomy, beneficence and informed consent. These are the main principles that must be
followed by investigators for completing primary and secondary research in a more effective
manner .

Sampling: It is a useful process used by investigators for selecting sample size. There are
two sorts of sampling such as probability and non-probability which are used by the resercher in
their findings. Within an investigation, probability sampling is useful as it saves time and cost
and helps researchers to select sample size on a random basis. 40 employees of Tescowill be
selected by researchers by using simple random sampling technique .
P4. Analytical tools to analyse research findings and data
Content analysis is considered as an alternative methodology that will be followed by
researchers. As this technique supports an investigator in analysing quantitative data about the
current investigation. In order to analyze quantitative data, there is a requirement of following
some steps which are creation of a frequency table, development of graphs and interpretation and
analysation of information. These steps will be explained as below:
Frequency Table
Q1) Are aware regarding the concept of equality and diversity in
the working premises of Tesco?
