INTRODUCTION
Equality make sure that everyone is getting equal opportunity & not treated differently based
on their characteristics while diversity refers to differentiation in between people or group of
people &placed a positive value on those difference (Ng and Stamper, 2018). The following
report is based equality and diversity within an organisation in context of UK along with
inclusive practices. Which is a teaching approach that recognise difference between professionals
and learners to ensure that all have opportunity to access educational content & participate fully
in learning. This assignment covers discussion about how to promote equality & diversity with
influencing factors. Further, role & responsibility of inclusive practice will cover.
TASK 1
A. Identify and explain 9 categories with regards to equality and diversity.
Age- It refers to a person belonging to a particular age group that can be either of same age
or can be range of ages.
Gender- Gender diversity is the fair representation of individual of different genders or
equitable ratio of men and women. Also includes people of non-binary genders. Whereas gender
equality means equal outcome for both men and women along with diverse gender.
Disability- It Means when someone have physical or mental impairment while
impairments tends to substantial & long term adverse effect on ability of person to carry out day
to day normal activities.
Pregnancy and maternity- Pregnancy refers to a women who are pregnant and maternity
refers to the period of 26 weeks after birth.
Race- It implies to a protected characteristics that means race, colour, nationality and
ethnic origin of an individual
Religion- It is a protected characteristics that means denomination of religion and also
applicable to those who have not any religion.
Sexual orientation- It is personal rescue characteristic that are associate with person’ sexual
orientation towards people.
Marriage & Civil partnership- It tends to protected characteristics related with heterosexual
couple who are legally married and same sex couple who have entered into civil partnership or

civil marriage. Those who are not married and not in civil partnership are not part of this

B. Define diversity.
Diversity and equality- Diversity is all about celebration and valuing how all we are
different. It is associated with promotion of human rights and freedom as per some principles
like dignity and respects. Also to recognition the values and considered different backgrounds,
knowledge, skill, experiences of an individual and encourage them to use those different for
developing effective and creative workforce. In this everyone can share their ideas, experiences
and viewpoints to others for enhancing the productivity within organisation. Diversity in race
and culture or religion gives outcome of different perspective and perceptions that is beneficial
for organisation in term of productivity.
C. Why is important to promote equality and diversity?
There are number of benefits to promote about equality and diversity such as richness of
social mix, multi culture society, notion of global village, promoting best practices, addressing
difficulties that hinder language learning & skill development etc. in detail few are as follow:
Promoting best practices: Diversity bring different and innovative ideas as number of
culture are includes that gives opportunity to company for promoting best practices to full fill the
needs of consumer. This is advantageous in terms of productivity & profitability (Panicker,
Agrawal and Khandelwal, 2018).
Richness of social mix- Social mix means diversity based on level of income tenure and
social class in a given neighbourhood. Therefore, richness in diversity is directly proportional to
richness in social mix and that is good for UK companies to meet the desire of consumer.
Addressing difficulties that hinder the language learning and skill development: diversity
gives opportunity to all individual to learn about new and different culture apart from itself and
that is good in context of enhancement of skill, and experience.

In an organisation or college it is vital to promote equality and diversity for the
improvement or development of company or students. In this regards there are number of ways
by which it is possible and few are follow:

Engaging students: This is the best way to promote diversity and equality in classroom as
students will engaged towards their work/ project without creating any conflicts in classroom
based on discrimination. It brings positivity across the whole room and that is good for college in
terms of reputation.
Empowering individual: By assigning equal role and responsibilities to all individual of
similar position and skill, lower the discrimination and promotes equality and diversity at
workplace. This is vital for the development and growth of company.
Encouraging team working: By valuing the contribution of team member, respecting
them in order to maintain team sprit promotes equality and diversity at workplace. There are
various methods by which manger of company can encourage its team work like by appraising
their performance in front of higher executives.

A. What are the factors affecting learning? Review their impact on learning.
Age- Age is connected with the declination in cognitive abilities that are essential for
maintaining functional independences like learning new skill. When a person become older his/
her learning power get decreases due to some health problems.
Financial situation- When financial condition of an individual is not good, it bring
insomnia, weight gain, depression, anxiety etc. and that affects the learning process of an
individual.
Confidence- This is another factor that also affects the learning power of an individual as
high confidence improve the understanding of a problem (Afful, 2018). If an individual have
high confidence then it will be more critical understanding of a problem. Therefore, better
understanding in teaching and learning activities within classroom enhances the strength and
understanding.
Educational background: Higher level of education are linked with the good range of
positive outcome including wellbeing, higher social trust, greater political interest etc. Therefore,
good and high educational background is beneficial for the upcoming generation as it boost up
the learning power and gives motivation to learn more.

Analytical skills: It refers to the ability to collect and analyse the information, resolve
problem and make decision accordingly. It puts affirmative impacts on ability of learning as it
motivates and encourage person to perform all function effectively and take decision in better
manner.
Skill development: Improvement in skill impose positive impact on learning as it increase
ability of an individual to perform more complex and difficult task in effective manner without
worrying about uncertainties and risk. Therefore, it is good in term of development (Gotsis and
Grimani, 2017).
Physical disability: It discourage an individual internally as it is a substantial and long
term condition that puts adverse effect on person’s body & that impairs and limits their physical
functioning.
C. Barriers to equality and diversity.
Limits of language: There is no limits of language across the world and that acts as
barriers for equality and diversity within organisation. The difference between two cultures
reflects perfectly in their language and sometime that bring conflicts in between employee of an
organisation. By engaging individual towards role/ task it can be overcome. As well as by
providing training and development to all employees language barrier in diversity cab be
eliminate.
Peer pressure: It is direct influence on people by peer or by changing attitude, values,
behaviour an individual can follow their peer or can get encouragement. When peer puts pressure
on individual within company brings negativity and creates disputes among workforce.
Lack of self-confidence: Lacking in confidences is the barrier if effective communication
and if is absent then it act as barrier to equality and diversity too. With relevance to workplace
for opting equality and diversity it is important to have effective communication in between all
workforce.
Discrimination Bullying- Discrimination based on age, gender sex, race etc. within

Responding to feedback from students: To maintain equality and diversity in classroom,
teacher can take feedback and ask their viewpoints and then by considering it gives opportunity
to students for feeling significant and accomplishment. This gives strength to perform well and

kind of harassment or discrimination within company. This provides equality to all individual
who are working under same organisation and removes discrimination based on age, disability,
gender race, sex, religion, pregnancy & maturity. It maintain the consistency and foster positivity
in firm and that is valuable for growth and development.
Equality of opportunity: It increase the satisfaction, loyalty and commitment level of an
employee toward employer when they all received equal rights, benefits and remuneration. It is
good for both company and (Väyrynen and Paksuniemi, 2020). It avoids the bias and all people
get outcome on their performances not on based of bias. In with the diversity and equality values
everyone’s differences for maintaining positivity in an organisation.
Workplace regulation: It is the primary responsibly of manger or team leader to provide

workforce. Regulation require employer to provide adequate lightning, heating, ventilation and
