A company can survive and thrive not only by the employee’s productivity
but also by the prevailing work culture. A better work culture can be
developed by the fair treatment and the policy framework of the company.
NHS is one of the pioneers who have constantly maintained the image of
creating a better workplace including diversity and equality which will
inspire the employees to work more.

Organisational policies:

Equality Act 2010. This is very important as it helps to attract more

Trade unions also play a major role in supporting the employees other than
the corporate legislations. They help the companies to preserve the

also. The 12 trade unions have forced the health secretary of UK to give
the required funding that NHS requires to start its project in the medical
domain.

Anti-discriminatory activities:
NHS strongly follows the Equality law, 2010 where the employees can
connect directly to the manager or the Human Resource. They can also
contact the trade union bodies to report their bullying cases (GOV.UK,
2019). To further stop this, they have also collaborated with ACAS by
creating a helpline to prevent the bullying and the harassment faced in the
workplace.

Sometimes, bullying takes place at the workplace where the employees
constantly face some friction in their operation. Bullying makes the lives

Prejudice and discrimination
Often several cases have come up like prejudice and discrimination in the
workplace. Prejudice can be in the form of racial, sexual or some other ways.
Effect on the victim - As per the survey conducted, it has been found that about
12% of the employees have experienced some kind of discrimination due to
their ethnicity or language (peoplemanagement.co.uk, 2018). This not only
degrades the performance of the colleagues but also breaks them manually.
Effect on the perpetrator – Sometimes, the prejudice and discrimination can be
misunderstood and as a result an environment of animosity may be created.
Effect on the company – The employee turnover increases due to the negativity
in the atmosphere and as a result, the image of the company is affected badly.

mandatory. Anybody can work productively and in a better way in an
environment free of harassment or any bullying activities. If equality and

Definition: Equality means giving equal opportunities that can motivate the
employee force to work more to achieve the common organisational objectives.
The company has adopted the EDS system to create a cooperative
atmosphere. It has been found that with the reduction in gender gap, more
women can showcase their skills which the male community lacks.
Equality will give equal opportunities to the employees working in the
workplace which will improve the work culture thereby reducing the
employee turnover.

there is a chance of the growth of business opportunities. As the working
population in UK is getting aged, so the entry of the women and ethnic
people will try to boost the sector respectively. A diverse workforce will
help the company to target a diverse range of clients which will improve
the company’s culture.

This fair treatment can also effects many thing other than industry. Their
daily life also affects in fair treatment. How much they participate in the
social activities or how much they are appreciating the society. Society is
fond of this equality and fairness in recent days. According to the
government law, every person are equal. Age, religion, gender, race do not
matter in any organization.

Conclusion
It can be concluded that maintaining the equality, diversity and fair
treatment in the work culture will not only try to improve the work culture
but also try to attract more stakeholders. NHS is one of the pioneers in
maintaining a diverse workplace and has maintained a 55% reservation for
female in their roles. In addition, NHS has also tried to introduce the
stepping and the ready now programmes which have helped the ethnic
communities to grow in the upcoming years.
