AI Summary
This research plan focuses on coastal erosion and its control within a marine policy context. The introduction outlines the background of coastal erosion, emphasizing its natural processes and the impact of human activities and sea level rise. The main objective is to identify effective control measures, analyzing methods like seawalls, groynes, and soft erosion controls such as beach nourishment and bulldozing to create artificial dunes. The research methodology involves literature review, observations, and interviews to gather data on erosion control techniques. The conclusion stresses the importance of maintaining coastlines and proposes implementing these control methods, drawing from successful practices in countries like Japan, and advocating for policy changes in the author's home country to conserve the coastal zones. The plan aims to acquire skills in Japan and apply the research to address coastal erosion issues.

MARINE POLICY AND MANAGEMENT IN COASTAL ZONE 2
TITLE
COASTAL EROSIOL CONTROL
INTRODUCTION
Background Information
Coastal erosion is the process of removing the upper earth material along the shoreline of
the coast, these include the dunes, cliffs, coastal wetland and beaches. These removals are due to
the high tides along the shore, strong winds waves and storm surge in some rear occasions. The
magnitude and the speed of the coastal erosion process is a factor of the geological layout of the
coastal line as well as the above-mentioned causes of the coastal erosion. This is a natural
process which always takes place at the coastal shoreline and it always contributes to the
sediment redistribution through the coastal shoreline and also formation of the nature of some
common coastal landforms like the cliff and some sharpened dune at the locations for erosion
and wind beaches in the deposition positions.
The increase sea level will always increase the coastal erosion rate as the profile of the
coast adjust to higher ocean level and the shoreline will retreat normally in case the erosion
process is not controlled and it is allowed to continue. The erosion at the coast can further be
intensified through damming of rivers having subsequent sediments deficits in the adjacent
shorelines and the coastal land. The change in shoreline induced by the coastal erosion and then
accredited by some natural process which then takes place after some period of time. The
coastal area development has a higher interest in the erosion problems and this has resulted in
some major efforts in managing this coastal natural process (coastal erosion).

The objective of the research
The main objective of this research plan is to identify some of the control measures of
coastal erosion, this is very significant since this process is a natural process hence it cannot just
be controlled by the avoiding some human activities but rather takes some measures to control
the process of natural activity.
MAIN BODY
Since this research involves some control measures toward the coastal erosion, this study
basically analyses some of the methods and ways in which the coastal erosion can be controlled.
The research of this study is conducted by making references to some of the literature on the
control of coastal erosion and how these erosions can be controlled (Branch, 2012). The
importance of controlling this erosion is also a very significant aspect of this research paper.
Therefore the research analysis of this project involves the techniques of controlling the coastal
erosion. Some of these techniques are discussed below.
Soil erosion due to the movement of the strong winds waves and storm surge can be
controlled through the construction of some seawalls as well as the groynes. These structures are
not immune from general tear and wear hence after some time they have to be rebuilt again to
make them more effective (States, 2011). Another control technique can be used in coastal
conservation through controlling the coastal erosion is known as soft erosion control. This
control is just a temporary control hence they are known as soft control. Such controls include

the use of beach and sandbags nourishment. Other ways which can be used under this category
includes the use of beach bulldozing, this will allow for the development of artificial dune which
will hence prevent the erosion at the coast (Hull, 2011). The research methodology is basically
ways of how the data were collected and analyzed, therefore this research plan the data were
obtained through observation as well as conducting some interviews on ways of controlling
coastal erosion. These help a lot in making a convincing conclusion about the techniques of
controlling coastal erosion.
CONCLUSION
Just like any other erosion, coastal erosion makes the shoreline to look very ugly and
affect the coastline, therefore, it is advisable to maintain the coastal line beautiful by controlling
this type of erosion. In countries like Japan, the above methods of controlling coastal erosion are
being into practices and these techniques have really helped them to reduce the coastal erosion
and helping in conserving the coastal zone and the marine. Upon returning to the home country,
the above methods of controlling coastal erosion will be discussed with the authority responsible
for the conservation of marine life and the coastal management in my home country. I will
convince them to make these methods of conservation of marine a must hence making them a
policy of conserving our coastline.
