INTRODUCTION
The self directed learning is consider to be crucial for assisting the nurses in meeting up with
their challenges that they found within today’s health care environment. The self directed
learning is essential for the general practicum as while practicing within the clinic it become
essential for the nursing practitioner to learn from the things they see and being instructed within
clinic so that they can implement it effectively within their work. The current report is all about
five main learning activities which are required while performing work in duration of general
practicum so that they build up with better knowledge and expertise.
MAIN BODY
Communication skills
For a nurse communication skill is very much essential as they have to interact with
patient, perform their advocacy, be indulge with other medical field practitioner to perform work
together and to discuss things with patient’s family. So, in order perform well within practices I
make use of verbal communication to interact with patient in order to make them comfortable to
the clinical environment so that they feel good and also support in each thing that are performed
to treat them. Other than this I also used my communication skill while interacting with my team
members and discuss them about work to be performed so that I would be able to reduce my
chances of mistake by clearing about all the doubts. This is only become possible when I
become able to express my ideas and thoughts clearly in front of my seniors and team members
so that they teach me about the way I can practice the work. Other than this I also make use of
my communication skill in writing all the details about the case on which I worked and present
in front of my seniors about the things which I have learnt by performing work within clinic.
Team building/ collaboration
The clinics and hospitals adopt a range of approaches in order to provide best possible
patient care where nurses has to work closely and collaborate with the physicians as well as
specialist of particular field in order to deliver a well organised comprehensive care. Hence the

team working skill is very much essential for a nurse in order to promote a positive patient care
outcome. With the help of team working skill I become able to work collaborate with the team
assigned to me for delivering a care to particular patient. This is so because team working brings
up lots of learning where one can enhance their knowledge by interacting and working with the
experienced person who teach a lot about each and very process. Other than this io found that
team working support in brings accountability where if there remains more collaboration among
team members and mutual contribution then each one take up their responsibility seriously and
perform task effectively without compromising their efforts. This always bring up a way to have
an outstanding performance and delivering the best quality health care related service to the
patients and also help in dealing with any challenges that may found while providing treatment.
Management and leadership skills
Being a nurse there are range of task that they have to perform whether it is from managing
the group of activities all together or leading the team members to perform a particular task. All
of them need a better management and leadership expertise assistance to perform the tasks. A
nurse required a better management skills in order to bring up a coordination between the
resources as well as personnel that further contribute toward meeting up the goals and objective
of clinical practices. Hence for performing my task effectively it remain crucial for me to learn
about managing balance between all the activities related with patient care so that the most
effective medica services can be offered by the patient. Other than this the leadership is also very
much essential for a nurse to perform its practice. As while working in a clinic I required to
maintain a balance between working with another nursing staff as well as heath care facility
administration for ensuring that the work assigned must be performed in well manner within any
kind of error as any mistake done have a direct impact over the health of a patient. Therefore the
effective leadership skill support me a lot in directing the work practices and activities of people
working with me in a team and management skill support in managing all of them together along
with the resources needed to perform tasks.

Clinical decision making
Nurses have to make important clinical decision each day and these decisions have a direct
impact over the health care of patient as well as actions performed by health care professionals.
But as the care provision has become more complex the nurses are required to rely on more
sound and well evaluated decision making in order to get up to date care as well as positive
outcome from the efforts made. The better clinical decision making learning activity will support
me in making conclusion about the patient’s status as well as health care need that they want
along with determination of method to be adopted for best meeting up the need of patient. Other
than this it also support me in making an assessment about the patient response to a particular
treatment is it moving to a right direction or required to make changes to best suit the need of
patient. Other than this it will also support me in maintaining the up to date care of patient by
analysing my previous experience over patient care then by evaluating all the pros and cons I
become able to deal with the problem of patient and provide them with a better health care
treatment.
Research activity and evidence based practices
For performing well as a nursing practitioner, it is crucial to have a skill related with
researching and evident based practices to be implement in work. This help me in enhancing the
quality of my work in efficient manner. This is so because by regularly performing the research
activity over the area of my profession I would be able to enhance my knowledge and expertise
that can be used while practicing my work within clinic or hospital. Other than this the evidence
based practice is also essential fro the health care practitioner as it help in making quality
decision about the nursing practices which is based on personal clinical expertise. As the evident
based practice allow in gathering information about the patient health issues and then evaluating
the information effectively and by integrating it with the clinical area of expertise it become
possible to take better decision about the health care plan of patient. With the help of evident
practices I would be able to perform well in providing better care services to the patient by

implementing my knowledge and expertise that I gain from researching about a particular health
issue and then practically implementing them in my nursing practice.

practices in effective manner it is crucial; for an individual to have certain skills and expertise
that allow them to perform their tasks in effective manner. some of the commonly required skills
which assist in day to day clinical practices are communication, leadership and management,
team work, research activities and evident based practices and clinical decision making. These
help in performing the health care work in efficient manner.
