Introduction
Cognitive development is all about the way in which influence babies and Toddlers, aged in between 0-12 Months, 1-
2years and 2-3 years. The process of cognitive development is consider as unique and specific to each infant, toddler
and family. There are various factors influence the cognitive development including prenatal events, genes and aspect of
children’s environment. In this section, it will focus on the curriculum areas of Language & literacy. These are
supporting the Infant or toddler to improve their own capability or ability. Basically, it will describe about the essential
skills in the improvement of Babies, Infant or toddler.
Theories and models used in language and Literacy
In context of language & Literacy, Chomsky theory is based
on the idea that all kind of language contain similar
structures and rules. That’s why, this theory will help for
Infant, toddler to learn and acquire knowledge of language
the same way (Thornburg, Yee & Education, 2020). It
indicates that Infant was born with basics which has already
present in our brains.
Vygotsky theory is related to the sociocultural because it
plays important role in the infant and toddler life style. This
is why because of culture, environment, care-givers. These
are responsible for developing high order functions.
According to the Vygotsky, It is majorly influencing the
Infant and toddler to interact with other people.
In Skinner theory, this is based on the idea, assumption that
learning is a function of change in behavior of infant and
toddler. Usually, this can possible when create a specific
event that will change behavior of infant suddenly.

How will support Language and Literacy
It outline the language and literacy on the basis of
learning experience from 0-12 months, 1-2 years,
2 -3 years. On the basis of experience, it has
analysed that reading a loud help infant
vocabulary grow as she or he many chances to
hear or learn new words. So as, it is needed to use
books as part of infant’s daily routines. In the age
of 1-2 years, Infants enter the toddler and will try
reading, talking (Wohlwend, 2017). It seems
incredible but for learning, they can start or begin
through books, and classroom activities. On the
other hand, learning experience of toddler, aged
in between 2-3 years. Language & literacy skills
are supporting to learn on daily basis, start
conversation, playing games and improve
language & vocabulary.
What are essential skills looking for Babies or Toddlers
Usually, there are certain essential skills looking for Infant, babies and
Toddlers. It including verbal communication, listening skills, sounds,
books and looking at letters. In context of language and Literacy,
Different skills are playing an important role and used by infant,
toddler on regular basis.
Developmental Milestones are consider as behaviour and physical
skills seen in the infants & Toddlers, as they can grow and develop.
It involves rolling over, walking, talking. These are all assumed as
milestones. The normal range in which an infants and Toddler may
each a milestone. At that time, it will be developing their skills and
supports in context of literacy, language Curriculum.
