Technology and dating
This essay is about a discussion on how the four ethical theories affects the dating and
technology news. The main areas being analysed is how the four ethical theories affect the
following ethical issues like the privacy, security, cybercrime and the intellectual property in the
technology and dating sites. Nowadays many cases has been filed and reported to the ICT
Crimes departments where people have been conned, harassed and much more abused in the
many websites that we have been seeing online which are used for dating online. The way the
technology has been embraced especially by the people at the age of early 20s is very serious as
now they treasure the online dating. A lot of time is being wasted and people having less time for
recreation making it a major blow as people are preferring virtual communications? It is
unfortunate that you meet once with a partner and exchanges contacts and the next time you meet
you are engaging in other serious activities like kissing, romancing and the two of you barely
know each other in any way (Gordon, 2009). This has led us calling for an understanding of how
the ethical theories can help in transforming us in understanding the right or wrong and how
ethical they may when we take in to consideration of the issues like the privacy, confidentiality,
intellectual property and how secure one can be.
The structure of ethical theory is used to help in guiding to do investigations and much more
providing us with principles and structures that help in analyzing the data we have. According to
Bork Bill (1988) on the video privacy protection act is that the good theory should be much of
cohesive, show some consistence, detailed (comprehensive) and very systematic in all ways. The
idea being brought about is how we can firmly focus on to analyze the ethical theories in the ICT
world. The study will discuss the different ethical theories in existence and how relevant they are
to the ict world. The idea will be elaborated further by explaining them with the ethical issues
examples as far as the code of ethics is concerned (Baumeyer, 2018). The four ethical theories to
be analyzed are the consequence-based, duty-based, contract-based and the character-based.
Utilitarianism being an ethical theory, it has its foundation that is seen on the utility, or the acts
that are making it capable in producing great happiness (Gardiner, 2003). Utilitarian has been

addressed is morally wrong. In technology and dating as the example not in all case many will
yield the happiness desire as they anticipate and according to ones customs then it might be
merely wrong in all ways and unethical especially the client accessing such services online is
disappointed. The idea on privacy is disregarded and not taken serious as many are innocent and
acts desperately to get a partner without knowing how dangerous sometimes it is sharing your
personal information just looking to fulfilling the utilitarianism theory (Happiness is the key).
Privacy of one individual will be violated and this will unethically wrong as one’s happiness may
turn in to tears and regret forever.
The ethical theory has been known to be defining a particular activity as either correct or
incorrect ethic where it evaluates on the basis of the character of individuals that involved in the
same other that act or effects of similar acts. There are three main elements that describe virtue
namely the eudemonism which concentrate on the aim of human in his happiness life. The other
one is ethics of care and the agent based theories (faculty.washington.edu, 2018). This theory has
been applied in the field of IT as there are some few acts that has been lately described to be
unethical in all ways and manners. When we start looking for relationships online without
knowing the reason to why we are doing that or the main agenda to doing that then we might fall
victims of this virtue theory. If we had to apply the ethical virtue theory in the technology and
dating sites then we may say that it is correct because it satisfies and justifying in the manner that
it provides happiness in all manners. The main idea that we get is that the sites has been created
for people and since there are other people who are enjoying such and we have not heard any
complains then we take on to ourselves by joining and embracing that so that we can disclose our
privacy and enjoy like them and hence making it to look like nothing wrong with the activity.
The next ethical theory is that of consequentialism in which an act is said to be morally correct
only its consequences will not harm anything on its way. The two basic principles used in
explaining this theory and this are based on the effects of the act to help in determining if the act
is correct or wrong and the number of the consequences that are positive and help in determining
the correctness of a specific act. The theory of utilitarianism says that utility is based on the
welfare of the human being and which is as a result of things caused by the act if is prime
importance (www.acs.org.au, 2016). Nevertheless, according to Hedonism he claims that the
pleasure of human should be highly prioritized. This theory is applicable in the world of ICT in

so many ways. If we consider the joining the technology and dating websites the regulations and
social inclusion on the internet in virtue ethic may not be wrong but in case of consequentialism
the act may be morally incorrect as it may be violating one conscious and privacy especially if
one have a partner already in a relationship hence leading to loss of dignity and trust by the
participant and the involved party if either part recognizes such. This has also create some
diversities between the involved parties which may result to the damage of the relationship
between the two associated parties and hence termed to be morally and ethically incorrect.
.
Lastly is the deontology which is applied by determining all morality in a specific activity which
is based on the level of devotion to the duties associated with similar acts. This theory does not
put in to considerations the consequences that arose when an act considers the adherence to the
rule of guarding (Shakil, 2016). In this situations we consider the technology and dating
methodology. The biggest idea is when we do things without letting our partners know what we
are doing. Considering the case of technology and dating it may be seen like as if it may affect
the associated parties because if one follows his own methodology assuming we use the agile
and does not involve the other partner that he has used that then they may contradict if the other
recognizes that the other partner is doing something fishy and he or she never communicated in
advance to the reasons to as why he or she opted for that. . So if we are given the project by agile
methodology and we don’t involve the customers we may consider the act at the end of a
particular sprint to be termed as morally incorrect.
In conclusion the discussed ethical theories have been applied in field of technology and dating.
They have created a great degree in correlating between the codes of Ethics in professionalism in
ICT (Gotterbarn, 2017). The theories are based on principles which are very different and are
explained depending on the basis in which they are built on. Deontology is on the basis on the
duties that governs any action which in turn justifies the act of adherence level to the law similar
to the parameter. The virtue ethic theory is judgmental based on the happiness and the wellbeing
from which it is created from (philosophybasics, 2017). The theory of consequentialism is
judged based on the how the implication of an act turn to may it be positive or negative
