ETHICAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 2
Introduction
Antenna for social Innovation Pathways to systematic change is a publication written by
Heloise Buckland and David Murillo, in February 2013, for inspiring and providing new sets of
variables for understanding social innovation.
The main ideas from the text revolve around the Barcelona Food Bank with Big Food
collection campaign. The summary of the main points from the text will include the following:
Mission, governing principles, objectives, solidarity food chain and achievements among others.
Mission
According to Babnik et al. (2014) mission statement defines a business goals or what the
company does, the organization’s mission is clearly depicted which is fighting poverty and food
waste with a yearly big food collection campaign to raise awareness of both issues which is true
to say that the company walks as per their mission for example, high first campaign realized on
year 2009.
Governing Principles
The Barcelona Food Bank is governed by two principles. The first governing principle is
gratuity where everything comes in freely from donations and distributed to those in need for
free. The second governing principle is volunteerism which portrays that the bank was founded
by a group of volunteers. From the two principles, ethical conduct is a reality from the first
principle and service to the society from the second principle (Schwartz 2017).
Objectives

ETHICAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 3
According to Stefanović et al. (2015) objectives describes a clearly defined target of a
business which is clearly depicted by the foundation. Its objectives are fighting poverty and
hunger while reducing food wastage in Barcelona and fostering solidarity regarding poverty and
hunger. The foundation has been really meeting their targets, for example, reducing fruits
wastage by manufacturing fruit juice.
Solidarity Food Chain
The foundation has a system which is between the donor companies responsible for
making donations and the organizations who receive the donations. The organizations facilitate
food distribution to individuals in high-risk economic situations. The distribution I feel is based
on transparency founded by the two governing principles.
Innovation type
It is true and clear to say that the movement stands out uniquely among others due to its
strategies which include the following: Finding creative business-oriented solutions, for example,
Bank’s fruit juices and preserves initiative to reduce fruits wastage. Another strategy is the
creation of an online donation system on the foundation website where individuals have a
freedom of choice from a series of specific products and brands to donate from wherever they
are.
Conditions for Success
The foundation has shown it necessary to have some conditions for an effective campaign
which include the following: Infrastructure where a decent sized warehouse for food
classification, gratuity where free donations to users are to be ensured. Lastly is rigour and
efficiency which entails having a clear control system ensuring organizations really need food

and use the system in the right way (Buckland and Murillo 2017). From given conditions, it is
with no doubt that the foundation will continue soaring to greater heights.
Achievements
In conclusion, I concur with the authors that the organization has managed to
triumphantly come up with some achievements which include the following: 25 years of
poverty-fighting and 25 years of waste reduction among others, for example, diversifying the
income.
