This case focuses on the ethical issues associated with the profession of Engineering. In this context a
case study approach has been used for clearly understanding the ethical issues that are faced by the
engineers. The ethics in engineering are the responsibility as well as ability of an engineer in
context of judging their decisions from the perspective of general wellbeing of the society.
This particular case indicates that the engineer presented the information that was not
accurate to Tim; this is known as the misrepresentation of the data. This is an ethical issue on
the part of technical expert who misrepresented the data. The misinterpretation of the
pollutant information cannot be considered as a sound technical reasoning. Tim faces the
ethical conflict in context acting against the data misrepresentation. The findings of this case
indicate that there is no right or wrong solution for the ethical issues but the engineers should
focus on adopting the ethical behaviour.
